러시아 정교회의 소피아론 ― S. 불가코프를 중심으로 = Sophiology in Russian Orthodoxy Focused on Sergei Bulgakov

While the term Sophia(המכח, wisdom) has stood for a variety of biblical, theological and mystical images over the centuries, the most significant attempt to develop and elaborate a doctrine of Sophia within an explicitly Christian framework belongs to Russian priest and theolo- gian S. N. Bulgakov (1871-1944). Sophiology is preeminently con- cerned with the way in which the link between God and creation is effected and manifested. In contrast to the dominant patristic view, whereby Sophia, the Divine Wisdom, is identified with Christ in accord- ance with a well-known scriptural passage(1Cor. 1:24), Bulgakov ar- gues that the mediation between God and world is accomplished through the hypostasized Sophia which has for this reason been open to charges of incompatibility with accepted Orthodox teaching. The present paper will examine the doctrine of Sophia, focusing on consistency with Orthodox tradition, panentheism and Trinitarian love in Bulgakov which has been unfamiliar to Korean Christianity. It will be argued that Sophiology for Bulgakov is a doctrinal means not only to express his personal encounter with the divine reality(Sophia) but also to uncover God’s personal engagement, that is, the unity of Divine-humanity in the created world in its relation to and as part of divine world.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

소피아(המכח, 지혜)는 수 세기 동안 성서적, 신학적, 신비적 형상으로자리하였으나, 그리스도교적 틀 안에서 교리로 발전시키고 정교화하는 데 심혈을 기울인 학자는 러시아 정교회 사제이자 신학자인 S. N. 불가코프(1871-1944)이다. 소피아론(Sophiology)은 하나님과 창조 사이의 연계가 세상 안에서 만들어지고 드러나는 방식에 특히 관심을 둔다. 사실 교부신학의 지배적인 의견은 신적인 지혜, 소피아는 성경(고전 1:24)에서 잘 알려진 대로 그리스도와 동일시한다. 이와는 대조적으로, 불가코프는 하나님과 세계 사이의 중재는 인격화된 소피아를 통해이루어진다고 주장하였고, 이러한 주장은 정통주의 가르침과는 부합하지 않는다는 비판을 받았다. 본 논문은 한국 그리스도교에 생소한 불가코프의 소피아론을 포용적 관점에서 [정교회] 전통과의 연속성, 범재신론 그리고 삼위일체론적 사랑을 중심으로 고찰할 것이다. 이를 통해소피아론이 신적인 실재(소피아)와의 인격적 만남을 표현할 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 인격적 관여, 말하자면, 신적인 세계와 관계하는 그리고그것의 부분으로서의 창조 세계 안에서 신적인-인성의 연합을 보여주는 교의적 수단임을 주장할 것이다.
