F. Lukoff의 < Spoken Korean >(1945/1947)과 < English for Koreans (영어학본) >(1954)에 대한 비교 연구 = A comparative study of F. Lukoff ’s < Spoken Korean >(1945/1947) and < English for Koreans(Yeong-eo-hak-bon) >(1954)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 프레드 루코프(F. Lukoff)가 1945/1947년에 발간한 한국어 교재인 < Spoken Korean >과 1954년에 한국인을 대상으로 발간한 영어 교재인 < English for Korean(영어학본) >을 비교하고, 당대 구조주의 언어학과 행동주의 심리학에 기반한 청화 구두식 학습법이 어떠한 방식으로 외국어 교재에 반영되어 있는지를 살펴보았다. 먼저 2종의 교재가 발간된 배경과 저자가 이 교재에 어떻게 참여하였는지를 개괄적으로 살펴보고, 이어서 두 교재의 구성 요소로서 ‘교수 방식에 따른 단원 구성 체계’, ‘교수요목과 대화문의 주제’, ‘청각 구두에 대한 지시’의 세 가지로 나누어 비교해 보았다. 이를 통해 1940년대에서 1950년대에 이어지는 청각 구두식 외국어 교재의 구성 양식에 대한 일관성과 특징과 함께 편찬 주체의 언어학적 접근 배경과 특징을 이해할 수 있었으며, 두 교재의 유사점과 차이점을 구체적으로 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이를 통해 향후 한국어 교재에서 청각 구두식 교재의 유형화와 분석 방법의 준거로서 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study compares < Spoken Korean >, a Korean language textbook published by F. Lukoff in 1945(Book one)/1947(Book two), and <English for Korean(Yeong-eo-hak-bon), an English language textbook published in 1954, and examines the ways in which the audio-lingual method, based on the Structural linguistics and Behaviorism of the time, is reflected in foreign language textbooks. First, this study outlined the background of the two textbooks and how the authors participated in their development, and then compared the components of the two textbooks, including the ‘Unit organization system according to the teaching method’, ‘The syllabus of the textbook and topics of dialogues’, and ‘The instructions on audio-lingual approach’. Through this study, it gives some implications to understand the consistency and characteristics of the organizational style of audiovisual foreign language textbooks from the 1940s to the 1950s, as well as the background and characteristics of the linguistic approach of the compilers, and to examine the similarities and differences between the two textbooks in detail. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the typology and analysis of audio-lingual Korean textbooks as a foreign language in future.
