A Study on the ways of Applying Teaching and Learning of Humor Strategy in Speech Education‘Humor’ which means funny word or behaviour. The ability to speak well of humor that people tend to get a better assessment. It is therefore the books on humor in a bookstore can be found easily. And then, the humor in the curriculum and textbooks are wondering how we're dealing with it.
In fact, among four kinds of high school speech textbook which based on seven curriculum, humor related sections of the textbook is only one. That is the niggardly result of referring of the section on humor in the curriculum. Also, the discussion of ways of using humor is abstract and predictable. Therefore, the improvement is needed.
In this thesis, we analyzed causes of laughter through analyzing two materials of spoken language. At first, we investigate humor strategies used by current middle and high school student at the ‘National middle-high school story competition’. Second, we analyze humor strategies of comedian through the TV show of ‘1 Night 2 Days’. That show deals with story of travel. So we can easily analyze everyday conversation and dialogue. The biggest disadvantage of these materials is intent and pre-prepared. Actually, the best material is that of transformation from spoken language which contains everyday dialogue to written language. When recorded, we should seek to understanding to talking people in advance. However, it is not good material because of destruction of spontaneity. So, in this thesis, we try to use material of daily conversations with the most similar.
Causes of laughter can be utilized as a strategy of humor. After the data obtained by analyzing the cause of laughter, we propose common strategy of humor compare with previous other researches. As a verbal humor strategy, there are disambiguation, dialect, slang, excretory taboos and the strategy of reversion of honorifics grammar. As a nonverbal humor strategy, there are reversal, hit on a vulnerable spot, parady, more description, humble oneself, use of weakness, overcharge, background infor -mation, sexual joke and expression of absurd situation. As a paralanguage expressions humor strategy, there is utilize of accent. As a body language, there are facial expression and gesture.
For applying teaching and learning to humor strategy, we set the three step processes of teaching and learning. These three steps are understanding of humor strategy, understanding of humor situation and applying humor strategy. In the step of ‘understanding of humor strategy’, we set activity of understanding and applying to humor strategy.
Second, through the step of ‘understanding of humor situation’, learners have attitude of utilization of humor considering on speaker, listener and scene of dialog. At last, in the step of ‘applying humor strategy’, learners apply of humor strategy with telling the story of their own. We propose teaching-learning plan based on above three steps of humor strategy and it is easily to apply directly to the class.
However, in this thesis, we did not experiment our conclusion in real situation of teaching-learning. And there is limitation which is speaker-oriented strategy of teaching-learning. Furthermore, we expect listener-oriented research which is how to understand and accept humor.
