고려 팔관회에 담긴 고려시대의 특성－현재적 계승과 관련하여－ = The Characteristic of the Goryeo Dynasty Inherent in Its Palgwanhoe －In Relation to Its Current Succession－

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As Benedetto Croce said, 'all history has a character of contemporary history’. But if this contemporary history has some preconceived view about the past history, it cannot reflect a right historical image. For example, the Joseon Dynasty very different in the historic image was succeeded to from the Goryeo Dynasty like Korea. And if the influence of the Joseon Dynasty has lasted up to the present, specialists as well as the masses have pointed out that there could be a limit in the understandings of the present interest and the situation.
Seeing that the family, historical consciousness, cultural herittage and even the capital location of the Joseon Dynasty is consistent with those of the current Korea, contemporary Koreans have a very great affinity with the Joseon Dynasty in general. Moreover, it can be said that discontinuity with the mood of the former times is very great for each of the kingdoms on the Korean peninsula had a longer reigning period of more than 500 years compared to kingdoms in Europe. In this sense, it is thought that contemporary Koreans have a poor knowledge of the historical image of the Goryeo Dynasty and are little interested in it. It can be said that the contemporary-history meaning of history formed based on this historical understanding has some given limitation. Among other things, the method of overcoming this problem would be to throw abundant light on the positive historical image of the Goryeo Dynasty in an objective way.
This study attempted to shed light on the meaning of Palgwanhoe in the Goryeo Dynasty having the emperor kingdom, diversity, openness and festivity and to track the meaning of contemporary succession to it. In addition, it pointed out some points for the contemporary succession of the tradition. They include the viewpoint of long-term persistence of the Korean kingdom, the reinterpretation of the Confucian culture, the application of digital humanities, the importance of ceremonies and the so on. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the recreation of the tradition from this perspective.
