일반논문 : 남북한 교과서의 "한국전쟁" 관련 내용 비교 연구 = A Comparison of Descriptions of the "Korean War" in North and South Korean Textbooks

국문 초록 (Abstract)

남한의 현행 교과서는 ``한국전쟁``을 ``6·25전쟁``이라 부르고 있다. 반면 북한에서는 ``조국해방전쟁``이라는 표현을 쓴다. ``한국전쟁``은 일본에서는 ``조선전쟁``, 중국에서는 ``항미원조전쟁``, 영미권에서는 ``Korean War`` 등으로 불리기도 한다. 현재 남한의 모든 교과서는 ``6·25전쟁``이 북한의 남침에 의한 것임을 명확히하고 있으며 유엔군 참전과 중국군 개입 등으로 전쟁이 국제전의 양상을 띠고 3년이란 장기간 계속된 과정을 강조하고 있다. 그러나 여전히 전쟁 시기의 정치 및 사회 상황, 정전협정을 둘러싼 국제 관계 등에 대한 설명은 미흡한 실정이다. 북한은 한반도의 분단과 ``한국전쟁``은 미국과 남한정부에 의한 것이며 이들이 침략전쟁을 일으켰으나 김일성의 현명한 영도로 제국주의 침략군을 성공적으로 막아내고 ``조국해방전쟁``에서 승리했다고 기술하고 있다. 또한 전쟁의 전개과정을 크게 ``제1계단``에서 ``제4계단``으로 나누어 남한에 비해 상세하게 설명하고 있다. 남북한 정부는 지금까지 ``한국전쟁``에 대하여 철저하게 흑백논리에 따른 설명, 즉 전쟁의 모든 책임을 상대방에게 떠넘기는 설명을 조장해 왔다. ``한국전쟁``에 관한 남북한의 인식차가 좁혀지지 않는 한 진정한 평화와 통일의 길은 멀 수밖에 없다. 우리가 해야 할 일은 전쟁은 최대한 피해야 한다는 점을 아이들에게 가르치는 것이다. ``한국전쟁`` 시기에 있었던 일들을 명확하게 분석함으로써 실체를 밝혀 나가고, 그러한 내용을 남북한의 청소년들에게 객관적으로 가르치려는 노력이 그러한 비극의 재발을 막을 수 있는 기초가 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Current South Korean textbooks call the "Korean War" the "June 25 War"(the day of its initiation in 1950). On the contrary, in North Korea, the expression "Fatherland Liberation War" is used. The "Korean War" is also referred to as the "Joseon War" in Japan, "War to Resist USA aggression and Aid Korea", and "Korean War" in the English-speaking world. All South Korean textbooks today make it clear that the "June 25 War" was started by North Korea`s invasion and stress that the war continued for no fewer than 3 years, becoming an international war with the participation of United Nations forces and the intervention of mainland Chinese troops. However, explanations on various aspects of the historical incident including political and social situations during the war and international relations surrounding the armistice agreement continue to be insufficient. On the contrary, according to North Korean textbooks, the American and South Korean governments caused the division of the Korean Peninsula and the "Korean War," invading North Korea. Thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Il-sung, however, the latter successfully ousted the imperialistic invader troops and triumphed in the "Father land Liberation War." In addition, these textbooks provide explanations that are more detailed than those in South Korean textbooks. North and South Koreans hitherto have promoted explanations of the "Korean War" strictly based on an inflexible logic of good and evil, shifting all blame for the war to the other party. Unless such disparities between the two Koreas in the view of the "Korean War" are bridged, genuine peace and reunification are remote indeed. What must be done, then, is to teach children that war must be avoided as much as possible. By clearly analyzing what happened during the "Korean War" and thus shedding light on the incident and endeavoring to teach the outcome objectively to youngsters in North and South Korea alike, it will be possible to set the foundation for the prevention of such tragedy from recurring.
