Hospital workers must deal with life-threatening injuries and illnesses complicated by various work-related stressors. This study attempted to identify the categories of work stress among hospital workers. We found that hospital workers are suffering from some of the most stressful situations found in any workplace. Through the qualitative interview analysis, we also found that caring emotional labor and complex hierarchical organizational structure were important stressors for the Korean hospital workers. Some tentative explanations of this finding are presented, and suggestions for the effective stress management are made for future research efforts.
