This experiment was carried out to study the efficacy of the exogenous PGF_(₂α) and oestradiol-17_β-injection for induction of parturition in white rats. Sixty of the pregnant white rats were injected with PGF_(₂α)+oestradiol-17_β. The survival rate of new born, effect of injection time and the amount of dosage of oestradiol-17_β on the induction of parturition were investigated. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The average survival rates of new born in groups injected with PGF_(₂α)+oestradiol-17_β on day 15, 17 and 19 of gestation were 53.30%, 42.07% and 22.63%, respectively. There was differences by dosage of oestradiol-17_β. 2. Mean gestation lengths of rats injected PGF_(₂α)+oestradiol-17_β on day 15, 17, 19 of gestation were 22.74±0.27, 21.95±0.32 and 21.54±0.29 days, respectively. There was no significant difference among experimental groups. 3. Mean gestation length of rats injected 0.125㎎ (per ㎏ of wt)of PGF2a 4 times + 0.5㎍ (per ㎏ of wt.) of oestradiol-17_β, 0.5 ㎎ of PGF_(₂α) 2 times+1.0㎍ of oestradiol-17_β, 1.0 ㎎ of PGF_(₂α) once + 0.2㎍ of oestradiol-17_β were 21.92±0.62, 22.10±0.38 and 22.22±0.31 days, respectively. There was no significant difference among experimental groups.
