In this study, Polyethylene-g-MAH copolymer (PEM) grafted with maleic anhydride and Polyethylene-g-MAH-g-PEA copolymer (PEMP) grafted with polyetheramine were synthesized through the Response Surface Methodology (RSM).
The basic properties of PEM and PEMP was checked through the FT-IR, SEM/EDS, DSC, TGA methods. Also The Optimum condition variables of PEM(DCP 1 wt%, MAH 30.9 wt%, 135 ℃, 5 hour) and PEMP(PEA 8.3 wt%, 137.3 ℃, 3 hour) were defined by RSM. To check the optimal conditon samples, the contact angle of the samples were measured and the PEMP copolymer showed higher wettability than other samples.
In addition, the PP compound was synthesized using the PEMP as a compatibilizer. As a result, PEMP had same compatibility with the existing commercialized product (MPP). It was confirmed by various Mechanical Tests (Tensile, Flexural, IZOD impact strength, Thermal deflection temperature). Therefore, It is believed that the PEMP copolymer may be possible to be commercialized.
