The purpose of this study is finding what the traditional ethical thought which was constant in the Han people's Spiritual history. every thought has its own ideological background. Naturally, the chon bu-kyong(天符經). Every scripture is characterized by its own uniqueness in accordance whth the racial trait and the historical background. Buddism on Mercy, the Chine Confucianism on perfect Virture(仁) and taoism on Muui-Jayon(道) Grant these fact, Han thought ought to have what it is focussed on. It is none other than Han.
The pure mental root of the Korean race, the spirit of Han has run through the
Korean mentality for the last thousands of years. This Han contains in itself profound meaning and variegated principles, As is mentioned in my thesis, Han is said to have neither beginning nor end. Han has at once the deepest mysteriousness and a number of principles resembling the principle of relatively by which one can sublate the all-too simple logic of seeing everything in black and white.
Han thought is markedly characterized by its tendency toward mysticism. To cite a concrete example from the Chon bu-Kyong, the statement that one becomes three and three becomes one argues the intuition of mysticism, when viewd from epistemological stanpoint. The three returning into one is unthinkable without mystic sublation of the highest dimention. Transcendence or sublation is inherent in mystic intuition, as is evidenced by Korean scriptures, Naturally, mysticism is a salient feature of Han philosophy.
The thought of Chonbu-Kying discussed the relation ship between the essence of God and human being and is founded on the concept of unity of the heaven, earth and human being. It recognizes the existence of paradise in heaven as well as on earth. This is the traditional ethical thought. According to Han thought "one is many(一卽多)" and "many is one(多卽一)." The attribute of one and infinity is the same. Furthermore, the attributes of God and human being, and being and animal are the same. To the Korean ethical thought, God was an almighty impersonal being. God lived with and in them. The three fundamental beliefs of the Han people were Worship of heaven, respect for ancestors, and love for others.
The Han people have kept loyalty and filial piety as their traditional life ethics from the ancient times. loyalty and Filial piety is the value that was founded on moral sentiment that arouse naturally in the minds of Han people. It is the basis of social relations, sentiment of the people, and the core of human relation. when we refer to the records of Handan-gogi(桓檀古記), We can see that Joeui-sundo(조依仙道), a group of young warriors in Koguryo, had learned filial piety and patriotism as life ethics from a young age. Loyalty and filial piety were the main value item of five Commandments. Showing loyalty to one's nation was considered tatamount to filial piety because filial piety was considered as the prerequisite to the loyalty of the nation. the Hwarang-do, who did not separate loyalty and filial piety, thought that showing loyalty and devotion
to one's country and peoples was the most honorable thing.
Strong and permanent ideology of Han has kept the purity of korean calture which possible could be polluted by foreign culture and has prevented the lapse of national spirits, Therefore, traditional ethics and Han thought is surely a great thought which not only dominated the mental life of ancient koreans but also has sustained and developed the self-respectability of korean people form ancient to modern times.
