      Completion thyroidectomy is defined as surgical removal of the remnant thyroid tissue after resection of the thyroidgland. The frequency of completion thyroidectomy varies among researchers, but is estimated to be about 5-45%.
      Completion thyroidectomy may cause complications due to the presence of inflammation, adhesions, swelling,and scars at the surgical site due to the initial surgery. There is still controversy over the indications and timingof completion thyroidectomy. In this review, we would like to summarize the changes in indications for completionthyroidectomy and review the literature on its necessity.
