Korean women’s participation on higher education has been rapidly increased in process of korean mass higher education. Mass higher education results in equal educational opportunity and hierarchal differentiation in tertiaty education.
In this study, we examine expansion of women’s higher education in perspective of hierarchal differentiation in tertiaty education focusing on 2 years college and 4 years university. From 1970 to 2004, increasing women’s participation on higher education owed to expansion of 2 years college in Korea. But we find that gap between women's ratio of 2 years college and 4 years university has been changed. From 1970 to 1987, women's ratio of 2 years college continually exceed to 4 years university. In 1987, the gap between women's ratio of 2 years college and 4 years university is maximum Since 1987, the gap between women's ratio of 2 years college and 4 years university is continually reduced. Finally in 2004, women's ratio of 4 years university exceed to 2 years college.
We suggest to following study to examine causes changing gap between women’s ratio of 2 years college and 4 years university.
