        Combined transcriptomic and proteomic analysis of flubendiamide resistance in Plutella xylostella

        Diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella, is an important pest of crucifers worldwide. The extensive use of diamide insecticides has led to DBM resistance in the world, and this presents a serious threat to vegetable production. In the present study, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses were combined to investigate the potential flubendiamide‐resistance mechanism in DBM. The lab‐selected (Rh) and field‐collected (Rb) flubendiamide‐resistant lines of P. xylostella with resistance ratios of 1889.92‐fold and 1250.97‐fold, respectively, were used, as well as a lab‐reared flubendiamide‐susceptible line (S). Compared with the S group, the transcriptomic analysis revealed 151 upregulated and 287 downregulated gene messengers in the Rh group and 432 upregulated and 565 downregulated gene messengers in the Rb group. The most frequently enriched pathways of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were mainly involved in metabolic pathways. Metabolism related genes, including two P450, two ABC transporters, and three trypsins, were upregulated in the Rh line. Additionally, some P450 genes, trypsin, juvenile hormone (JH), and mucin genes were also upregulated in the Rb line. In proteomic analysis comparisons with the S group, there were 78 upregulated and 90 downregulated proteins in the Rh group and 221 upregulated and 155 downregulated proteins in the Rb group. Further analyses found that three CYP and 11 CYP proteins were over‐expressed in Rh and Rb lines, respectively. Four glutathione S‐transferase (GST) and four UGTs were over‐expressed in Rb line. So, we deduced that the detoxification metabolism may be the main mechanism of flubendiamide resistance in P. xylostella.

        Kraft Lignin Biodegradation by Dysgonomonas sp. WJDL-Y1, a New Anaerobic Bacterial Strain Isolated from Sludge of a Pulp and Paper Mill

        Wastewater containing kraft lignin (KL) discharged from pulp and paper industries could cause serious environmental contamination. Appropriate effluent treatment is required to reduce the pollution. Investigations on anaerobic bacteria capable of degrading KL are beneficial to both lignin removal and biofuel regeneration from the effluent. In this paper, an anaerobic strain capable of degrading KL was isolated from the sludge of a pulp and paper mill and identified as Dysgonomonas sp. WJDL-Y1 by 16S rRNA analysis. Optimum conditions for KL degradation by strain WJDL-Y1 were obtained at initial pH of 6.8, C:N ratio of 6 and temperature of 33°C, based on statistical analyses by response surface methodology. For a 1.2 g/l KL solution, a COD removal rate of 20.7% concomitant with biomass increase of 17.6% was achieved after 4 days of incubation under the optimum conditions. After the treatment by strain WJDL-Y1, KL was modified and degraded.

      • Effects of Age, Breast Density and Volume on Breast Cancer Diagnosis: A Retrospective Comparison of Sensitivity of Mammography and Ultrasonography in China's Rural Areas

        Purpose: Mammography has been confirmed as the only effective mode to improve the prognosis of patients with breast cancer in Western developed countries, but might not be a good choice in other areas of the world. One of the major challenges in China is to determine an optimal imaging modality for breast cancer screening. This study was designed to clarify the sensitivity of ultrasonography compared with that of mammography in rural China. Methods: We retrospectively studied the sensitivity of mammography and ultrasonography based on 306 breast cancer patients detected by the program of "screening for cervical cancer and breast cancer" performed in Chinese rural areas between January 2009 and December 2011, and analyzed the effects of age, breast density and volume on the sensitivity. Results: Stratified analysis showed that the sensitivity of breast ultrasonography was significantly higher than that of mammography in premenopausal patients (81.4% vs. 61.1%, p=0.02), in women ${\leq}$ 55 years of age (82.2% vs. 63.4%, p<0.01), in the high breast density group (American College of Radiology [ACR] levels 3-4) (85.9% vs. 60.6%, p<0.01) and in the small breast volume group (${\leq}$ 400 ml) (87.1% vs. 66.7%, p<0.01). Age had a significant effect on sensitivity of mammography (breast density and volume-adjusted odds ratio, 6.39; 95% confidence interval, 2.8-14.4 in age group > 55 compared to age group ${\leq}$ 45), but not that of ultrasonography. Neither breast density nor volume had significant effect on sensitivity of mammography or ultrasonography. Conclusions: Ultrasonography is more sensitive than mammography in detecting breast cancer in women under 55 year-old Chinese, especially in those with high-density and relatively small breasts.

      • Study on the Factors Influencing Dispersion of the Dispersive Soil Based on Grey Relational Analysis

        Soil dispersion is influenced by various factors. In order to determine the main factors influencing soil dispersion and the degree of their effect, as well as to provide a reliable theoretical basis for the mechanism behind dispersion, this paper studied the correlation between dispersion and physicochemical property indices by grey relational analysis using the dispersive seasonal frozen soil in the western Jilin province. The degree of correlation between the dispersion percentage and seven physicochemical indices is in the following order: cation exchange capacity (CEC)> exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP)> organic matter content > clay content> pH> specific surface area (SSA)> structural damage rate (SDR). Thus, CEC and ESP are the main factors influencing soil dispersion, followed by organic matter content, clay content, and pH. By contrast, the influence of SSA and SDR on dispersion is insignificant.

        Experimental Investigation of Ozone Decomposition in Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration with Non-Thermal Plasma Technology

        A non-thermal plasma (NTP) reactor was used to generate ozone for diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. The kinetic mechanism of ozone thermal decomposition reaction is explored, and the effect of temperature on the change of ozone concentration is analyzed. The changes of the internal temperature and the concentration of regeneration products such as CO2 and CO during the regeneration under constant temperature and non-constant temperature conditions are then studied and the influence of different regeneration environments on the regeneration is analyzed in combination with the decomposition law of ozone. In the non-constant temperature condition, DPF surface temperature changes significantly with time. The results show that when using an NTP reactor to generate ozone, the activation energy of the decomposition reaction is 2.80755 × 104 J/mol and the law of thermal decomposition reaction can be described as 190.76 . /. During DPF regeneration, the overall regeneration rate and ozone utilization rate in the nonconstant temperature environment are higher than in the constant temperature environment and the temperature change (delta-T) peak rises with the increase of PM deposition. The regeneration with NTP under non-constant thermal condition is an effective way to improve the efficiency of DPF regeneration.

        Ballistic transport in 5.1 nm monolayer boron phosphide transistors for high-performance applications

        Boron Phosphide is reported to be a semiconductor material with anisotropy, tunable bandgap, and high carrier mobility. We study the performance of 5.1 nm metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) based on boron phosphide using quantum transport simulation. The calculated results show that the on-state current can fulfill the requirements of the International Semiconductor Technology Roadmap (ITRS) for high-performance (HP) devices at the optimal doping concentration, but the gate control capability is not ideal. Furthermore, it is found that the gate control capability and on-state current can be significantly improved with the length being 1 nm by using the underlap (UL) structure. We also study the performance of boron phosphide MOSFET with different gate lengths (5–8 nm), and the results suggest that the shorter the gate length, the worse the gate control capability. Interestingly, the p-type boron phosphide MOSFET always outperforms the n-type MOSFET. This work will provide a new reference for the development of two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor devices.

        Estimation of the Strength Coeffi cient and Strain Hardening Exponent from Monotonic Tensile Properties of Steels

        In order to derive a method for estimating the strength coeffi cient and strain hardening exponent of steel, the performance parameters of 86 kinds of steel taken from American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Bar Steel Fatigue Database were examined and equations that related the strength coeffi cient and strain hardening exponent to the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength were developed. Correlations from the literature among the strength coeffi cient, strain hardening exponent and other monotonic tensile properties were also examined and compared to the relationships proposed in this study using the data of 86 kinds of steel. The proposed method was shown to be better used to estimate the strength coeffi cient and strain hardening exponent.

        A High Birefringent Polymer Terahertz Waveguide: Suspended Elliptical Core Fiber

        A novel high birefringent polymer terahertz (THz) fiber with a suspended elliptical core is proposed in this paper. The introduction of an elliptical core can enhance asymmetry to realize high mode birefringence, and a large porous outer cladding effectively isolates the core-guided mode from interacting with the surrounding environment. A full-vector finite element method(FEM) is used to analyze the characteristics of the THz fiber. Simulation results show that the suspended elliptical fiber exhibits high mode birefringence on a level of 10-2 over a wide frequency range, and an extremely large mode birefringence(≈0.06226) is obtained when ellipticity is 0.2. Moreover, a suspended hollow elliptical core fiber is also discussed for the purpose of lower loss, however high mode birefringence and low relative absorption loss can not coexist in such a kind of fiber.

        Structures, biomimetic synthesis, and anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity of two pairs of enantiomeric phenylpropanoid-conjugated protoberberine alkaloids from the rhizomes of Corydalis decumbens

        (±)-Decumicorine A ( 1 ) and (±)- epi -decumicorine A ( 2 ), two pairs of enantiomeric isoquinoline alkaloids featuring a novel phenylpropanoid-conjugated protoberberine skeleton, were isolated and purifi ed from the rhizomes of Corydalis decumbens . The separation of (±)- 1 and (±)- 2 was achieved by chiral HPLC to produce four optically pure enantiomers. The structures and absolute confi gurations of compounds (−)- 1 , (+)- 1 , (−)- 2 , and (+)- 2 were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, ECD calculations, and X-ray crystallographic analyses. The two racemates were generated from a Diels-Alder [4 + 2] cycloaddition between jatrorrhizine and ferulic acid in the proposed biosynthetic pathways, which were fully verifi ed by a biomimetic synthesis. Moreover, compound (+)- 1 exhibited an antiviral entry eff ect on SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus by blocking spike binding to the ACE2 receptor on HEK-293T-ACE2 h host cells.
