A case of primary reticulum cell sarcoma of bone arising from upper one third of the left humerus which was found to be conspicuously sensitive to roentgen irradiation is presented. The patient was a eighteen years old high school boy, visited out-patient department with a tumor of the left arm, diagnosed as a malignant tumor, amputation of the limb was recommended. The patient refused the operative intervention and returned home against advice after recieving only a single dose of roentgen irradiation, e.g. 300r. Around one year later, patient visited again to clinic with a child head sized tumor on the left neck while the tumor on the left arm has apparently disappeared. Roentgenogram revealed almost complete regression of the bony lesion on the upper humerus. Total amount of 3300r was administered to the neck tumor during period of fifteen days, the tumor regressed to the hen's egg sized fibrotic mass while the last few dose were beeing given. Eventual prognosis of this tumor is uncertain whether it may recur or not in the future.
Vitamin E가 Ehrlich 腹水癌 마우스의 放射線障碍에 미치는 影響에 關한 實驗的硏究

The present study was undertaken to observe the influence of vitamin E over the growth of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells and radiatian hazard t o Ehrlich ascites tumor mice. The mice of C.F.W. strain were classified into non-irradiated group and Co^(60) irradiated group, and then each of them was divided into vitamin E deficient group, vitamin F excessive group and control group respectively. The Co^(60) irradiated groups were administered by 500 r of Co^(60) on the seventh day after tumor cell inoculation. In these groups the total amount of ascites fluid, total. number of tumor cells, mitotic figure of tumor cells, the appearances of sudanophilic substance, PAS positive substance, DNA and RNA in the tumor cells, oxygen consumption of the tumor cells and metastatic finding to the surrounding organs were observed. The results are summarized as follows: 1) In the vitamin E deficient group (Co^(60) non-irradiated), the total number of tumor cells in the ascites fluid and young tumor cells were most abundant in comparison with those of other groups. 2) In the vitamin E deficient group Co^(60) non-irradiated), the sudanophilic substance and PAS positive substance appeared in the least degree. 3) In the vitamin E deficient group (Co^(60) non-irradiated), the tumor cell invasion to other organs were most prcminent in comparison with those of other groups. 4) Thus it is concluded that the vitamin E deficiency tends to have some promotive effect to the development of the Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. 5) In the vitamin E deficient group (Co^(60) irradiated), the total number of tumor cells in the ascites fluid and young tumor cells were least in comparison with those of other groups. 6) In the vitamin E deficient group (Co^(60) irradiated), the sudanophilic substance and PAS positive substance appeared to be most abundant in comparison with those of other groups. 7) In the vitamin E deficient group (Co^(60) irradiated), the amount of oxygen consumption o l the tumor cells appeared to be least in comparison with those of other groups. 8) Thus it is concluded that In the vitamin E deficient group the radiation hazard tends to be most prominent in comparison with those of other groups.
