이탈리아 韓國語 敎育의 現況과 課題 -베네치아대학을 中心으로-

My research discusses a course of Korean Studies at a University in Italy, with special attention to the analysis of the current situation, issues and their resolution plan regarding the Korean language education. Although, the University of Venice is at the centre of attention, the focus is extended towards the general particularities of the Italian-Korean language education and if of concern the situation of the University of Rome and Naples shall be further explained. This, as the basic aspect, I would like to present an analysis of the Italian-Korean language education and I would like to search for a future direction to head for. Further, if I seem it to be necessary, I refer to the situation of a course of Korean studies in Italy, which by confronting with the Chinese and the Japanese departments, I tried to find a direction for the Korean department for future. Giving regard to the recent major interest towards Korean culture and language at the University of Venice, I see great a potential for development in the future. But the installation of a course of Korean studies is facing three major problems, that have to be resolved, the diversity, the number of specialized personal and the concern/support of the university itself, considered as insufficient. These problems can not be seen as separated but are rigidly inter- connected with each other, as such, a development of a Korean Studies department can not be accomplished with one of these points insufficient Only in the recent situation of the University of Venice, the introduction of Korean Studies as a regular major has great necessity, I put emphasis on the cruciality of receiving positive interest and resources from the University authorities. Actually the University of Venice, while establishing a Korean major, has many problems with the cost estimation and the personal itself . Therefore constructive interest and resources are needed from Korea to overcome such difficulties. By doing, so Korean studies would become a part of the axis alongside with Chinese and Japanese studies in the Eastasian Studies department, the growth possibilities of Korean Studies in the University of Venice can be seen as augmented. 본 硏究는 이탈리아 大學에서 운영하는 韓國學 講座, 특히 韓國語 敎育을 中心으로 그 現況과 問題點을 分析하고 그 改善策에 대해서 論議한 것이다. 이탈리아 대학에서 한국학 강좌가 이루어지고 있는 곳으로는 公式的으로 로마대학, 나폴리대학, 밀라노대학, 베네치아대학을 들 수 있는 데, 이 네 대학 중에서 밀라노대학을 제외한 세 대학에서 한국어 교육이 이루어지고 있다. 筆者가 몸담고 있는 베네치아대학을 중심으로 하되 이탈리아 한국어 교육의 一般的인 特性에 符合할 만한 내용에 焦點을 맞추고, 必要에 따라서는 로마대학, 나폴리대학의 狀況을 소개하였다. 이를 土臺로 이탈리아 한국어 교육의 特性을 分析하고 指向해야 할 방향을 摸索하고자 하였다. 베네치아대학의 한국어 교육이 좀 더 成長하고, 이것이 한국학 발전으로 擴大되기 위해서는 時急히 한국학이 專攻으로 운영되어야 할 根據와 必要性을 提起하였다.

해외(海外) 한국어(韓國語) 학습자(學習者)를 위한 한자(漢字) 및 한자어(漢字語) 교육방안(敎育方案) -베네치아대학(大學)을 중심(中心)으로-

본 硏究는 최근에 많은 海外 韓國語 敎育現場에서 비교적 活潑하게 이루어지고 있는 漢字 및 漢字語 敎育에 注目하고, 그에 대한 敎育方案에 대해서 論議한 것이다. 이를 위해 현재 筆者가 몸담고 있는 베네치아大學에서 開設된 ‘韓國 漢字語 授業’을 土臺로 하여 理論的인 側面보다는 具體的이고 實際的인 側面에서 살펴보았다. 授業의 構成과 內容은 물론이고 그 運營에 있어서는, 베네치아대학 학생들의 敎育的 背景 과 特徵을 최대한 反映하고자 하였다. 그 중의 하나는 한자어 수업에 參加하는 學生들 중에는 한자 및 한자어를 처음 接하는 학생들은 물론이고 이미 한자 및 한자어에 대한 知識이 어느 정도 쌓여 있는 학생들이 있다는 것이다. 前者에 해당되는 학생들은 ‘非漢字文化圈’으로, 後者에 해당되는 학생들은 ‘準漢字文化圈’으로 指稱하였다. 그러나 이러한 狀況이 特別히 베네치아대학에 限定된 것이라고는 볼 수 없다. 그것은 현재 海外의 大學, 특히 유럽 대학의 한국어 관련 敎育課程을 살펴보면 베네치아대학과 비슷한 상황이 많기 때문이다. 具體的인 敎育方案과 관련해서는 현재 해외에서 이루어지는 漢字 및 漢字語 敎育이 韓國語 敎育의 一環으로 이루어진다는 점을 考慮하여, 一般的인 言語敎育의 分類를 參考하여 ‘한자어 읽기’, ‘한자어 쓰기’, ‘한자어 말하기/듣기’ 부분으로 나누어 論議를 進行하였다. My study concentrates on Korean-Chinese words education as one indispensable component of Korean language education. This research is basically based on the course I have taught at the University of Venice for "Korean-Chinese words." Students who attend the course are divided as "a cultural area of non chinese characters" and "a cultural area of quasi chinese characters", the former don`t know the chinese characters at all, the latter already have learnt chinese characters because they major in either Chinese Studies or Japanese Studies including students who are second-grade in Korean Studies. I have taken this situation into consideration for successful management of the course. I think the overseas Korean-Chinese Words education as a part of the education of Korean Language, so the course have been managed as divided into four scopes, "reading", "writing", "speaking", "listening" according to the general classification of foreign language education. Teaching Korean-Chinese words is very important to Korean language education in general, as nearly sixty percent of Korean vocabulary came from Chinese. Good proficiency in Korean-Chinese vocabulary will tremendously help students with their writing, pronunciation, and building up knowledge on etymology, grammar and cultural understandings. Therefore, Korean-Chinese words education should not be optional, but essential abroad. I hope this study will be of reference to other overseas institutes that have programs in Korean studies.

이탈리아 한국어 교육의 현황과 과제 - 베네치아 카포스카리 대학교를 중심으로 -

본 연구는 베네치아 카포스카리 대학교를 중심으로 이탈리아 한국어 교육의 현황과 과제를 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이탈리아에서 한국어 전공이 설치된 대학 중 베네치아 카포스카리 대학교는 최근 몇 년간 질적, 양적으로 가장 두드러진 성장을 보였다. 본 연구에서는 베네치아 카포스카리 대학교의 현황을 살펴보고 해결해야 할 몇 가지 문제점을 제시하였는데 그 중에서 가장 중요한 문제는 석박사 과정 개설이다. 석박사 과정이 개설되면 한국어 전공자들은 더 깊이 있게 한국어를 공부할 수 있고 나아가 전문 연구자 부족 문제도 해결할 수 있을 것이다. 현재 베네치아 대학은 한국어 전공 석사 과정을 개설하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있으며, 머지않아 석사 과정이 개설될 것으로 예상한다. 더불어 이탈리아 내 한국어 교육이 더욱 발전할 수 있기를 기대한다. This study aims to examine the current status and tasks of Korean language education in Italy, with a focus on Ca’Foscari University of Venice. Among the Italian universities that offer a Korean language major, Ca’Foscari University has shown the most growth, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in recent years. This study examines the current state of Ca’Foscari University and issues that need to be addressed, the most important being the establishment of master’s and doctorate programs that would allow Korean language majors to study the language in greater depth and help solve the problem of shortages of professional researchers. Ca’Foscari University is currently exerting great effort to open graduate programs for the Korean language, and expects to open a master’s program in the near future in the hope of further developing Korean language education in Italy.

Due to the continuation of the COVID-19 situation, the transition to a non-face-to-face online class method is recognized as a new class method rather than a temporary substitute for face-to-face class, so instructors must have the ability to use information and communication technology necessary for real-time online class operation and communicate with learners. It is necessary to newly develop class contents suitable for smooth interaction. Furthermore, discussions on various topics such as online teaching and learning methods and online evaluation methods necessary for effective online class design should be actively conducted. A causa della continuazione della situazione COVID-19, il passaggio a un metodo di lezione online non in presenza è riconosciuto come un nuovo metodo di lezione piuttosto che un sostituto temporaneo della lezione in presenza, quindi gli istruttori devono avere il capacità di utilizzare le tecnologie dell'informazione e della comunicazione necessarie per il funzionamento delle lezioni online in tempo reale e comunicare con gli studenti È necessario sviluppare nuovi contenuti di classe adatti a un'interazione fluida. Inoltre, dovrebbero essere condotte attivamente discussioni su vari argomenti come i metodi di insegnamento e apprendimento online e i metodi di valutazione online necessari per un'efficace progettazione di classi online.

Stato attuale e prospettiva degli studi coreani in Italia: Focalizzato sull'Università Ca’Foscari Venezia

Due to the worldwide popularity of the Korean Wave(Hallyu), there is a high interest in Korean culture, relatively tilted to the youth population. This drive acts as an integrated motive for learning Korean language, and it is also linked to the choice of their major discipline in universities. The common phenomenon is that: a high rate of students are interested in learning the language in limited number of universities in Italy that offer Korean language courses. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present the current status of Korean studies in Italy, future prospects, and tasks for its development. To begin with, based on the research I carried out in some universities across the country like; the University of Naples, University of Rome, the University of Ca’ Foscari of Venice, which have established Korean language courses including Korean literature since the 2000s, and the University of Bologna, the University of Siena and the University of Milan, which offer Korean studies as a liberal arts or a graduate school course. Moreover, in an attempt to expand and further develop the Korean studies, I suggest a list of tasks to consider such as diversification of lectures and improvement of lecture content, training of Korean scholars, reinforcement and expansion of the exchange student system, funds and scholarships, the establishment of the Research Center for Korean studies, the related academic organizations for regular holding of academic conferences or seminars and regular publication of journals and books. In a bit to effect this, there is need for closer collaboration among the universities that offer Korean language courses. Lastly, I recounted a review of the changing patterns of Korean language classes at Ca’ Foscari University, which complementary, is a combination of face-to-face education or distance education due to the Italian government's quarantine measures in response to the situation caused by the coronavirus. It emphasizes the need for active responses of learners and instructors to change in educational methods such as effective online class management using communication technology and technological devices in favour of the safety measures placed for the control of the pandemic.
