Objectives : Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) is the major component in commercial liquid epoxy resins, which are manufactured by co-reacting bisphenol A with epichlorohydrin. This study was performed to show the developmental effects of prenatal and postnatal exposures to BADGE in male rat offspring. Methods : Mated female rats were divided into four groups, each containing 12 rats. The dosing solutions were prepared by thoroughly mixing BADGE in corn oil at the 0, 375, 1500 and 3000 mg/kg/day concentrations. Mated females were dosed once daily by oral gavage on gestation day (GD) 6 - 20 and postnatal day (PND) 0 - 21. Pregnant female dams were observed general symptoms and body weight. Also, male pups were observed the general symptoms, body weight, developmental parameters (e.g. anogenital distance, pina detachment, incisor eruption, nipple retention, eye opening, testis descent), organ pathologic changes and hormone levels of plasma. Results : Pregnant rats treated with BADGE died at a rate of about 70% in the 1500 mg/kg/day group and all rats treated with 3000 mg/kg/day died. Body weight, for male pups treated with doses of 375 mg/kg/day, was significantly lower than in the control group at PND 42, 56, and 63 (p<0.05). Evaluation of body characteristics including; separation of auricle, eruption of incisor, separation of eyelid, nipple retention, descent of testis, and separation of the prepuce in the BADGE treated group showed no difference in comparisons with the control group. AGD and adjusted AGD (mm/kg) for general developmental items in BADGE 375 mg/kg/day treated pups tended to be longer than in controls, however, these differences were not statistically significant. Relative weights of adrenal gland, lung (p<0.05), brain, epididymis, prostate, and testis (p<0.01) were heavier than in control in measures at PND 9 weeks. There were no significant changes in comparisons of histological findings of these organs. Loss of spermatids was observed in the seminiferous tubule at PND 9 weeks, but no weight changes were observed. The plasma estrogen levels were similar in the control and treatment groups at PND 3, 6 and 9 weeks. The plasma testosterone levels in the control group tended to increase with age. However, in the BADGE 375 mg/kg/day treated male pups it did not tend to increase. Conclusions : These findings suggest that BADGE is a chemical that has developmental effects consistent with it being an endocrine disruptor.

Broccoli, one of Brassica vegetables, has been known to possess various health beneficial activities including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation and anti-cancer etc. Various metabolites were indicated as active compounds in broccoli. Glucosinolates such as glucoraphanin, glucobrassicin, glucoerucin and isothiocyanates, i.e. sulforaphane, which is produced through the enzymatic action of myrosinase are getting focus as their bioactivities. In this study, we treated broccoli with pulsed electric field (PEF) processing and the metabolite profiles were investigated based on the metabolomics analysis. PEF process was applied to stem and floret of broccolis with three different levels; 500, 1000, 1500 pulses with 2 kV/cm, then metabolites were extracted with 70% methanol. Metabolomic analysis was carried out with mass spectrometry through multivariate statistical analysis based on the OPLS-DA model. Significant changes of metabolite profiles were observed by PEF treatment and specific metabolites were affected as dose dependent manner. Content of major glucosinolates compounds such as glucoerucin, glucoiberin, glucoraphanin, glucobrassicin, 4-hydroxy glucobrassicin, and 4-methoxy glucobrassicin were significantly reduced, while sulforaphane was distinctively increased in PEF treated broccolis. The results implied that myrosinase released from vacuole by PEF processing transformed glucosinolate into isothiocyanate, which would be useful findings for enhancing bioactivity of broccoli by simple PEF treatment.

Distribution of rare earth metals (REMs) and rare valuable metals (RVMs) contents in coal ashes (fly ash, bottom ash, and pond ash) and leachate from 11 coal-fired power plants in Korea were investigated. Coal ashes and leachates were found to contain important REMs and RVMs such as Yttrium (Y) and Neodymium (Nd), which was in the range of 23~75 mg/kg. However, it still requires developing effective recovery and separation methods in order to utilize REMs and RVMs in ash and leachate. Recovery of valuable elements (Y and Nd) from various and extensive ash sources (8.21 million tons/year in 2013) can provide the existing power plants with additional profit; therefore, it can significantly improve economics of the power plants.

To investigate the effects of protein kinases on endothelin-l-induced phospholipase C activation and Ca2+ mobilization in Rat-2 fibroblast, we measured the formation of inositol phosphates and intracellular Ca2+ concentration with [3H]inositol and Fura-2/AM, respectively. Endothelin-1 dose-dependently activated phospholipase C and increased intracellular Ca2+ concentration. Protein kinase C activator, PMA, significantly inhibited both phospholipase C activity and Ca2+ mobilization induced by endothelin-1. Tyrosine kinase inhibitor, genistein, inhibited both. On the other hand, cyclic nucleotide (cAMP and cGMP) did not have any influence on the signaling pathway of phospholipase C-Ca2+ mobilization induced by endothelin-1. These results suggest that protein kinase C and tyrosine kinase counteract on the signaling pathway of phospholipase C-Ca2+ mobilization induced by endothelin-1 in Rat-2 fibroblast.

본 논문은 센서 네트워크에서 이동성 지원 기술을 제안한다. 본 논문에서의 접근 방법은 BAN(Body Area Network)과 같이 네트워크 단위로 이동하는 센서 네트워크와 일반적인 개체 단위로 이동하는 특성을 가진 일반적인 센서 네트워크로 분류하여 로컬 및 글로벌한 이동성을 지원하는 기술을 제안한다. 본 연구 제안에서 사용되는 기술은 IETF에서 표준화 한 IPv6 기반의 일반적인 무선 노드의 이동성 지원 기술인 MIPv6와 PMIPv6의 기능 중 필요 기능을 선택 및 적용과 응용으로 센서 네트워크의 이동성 지원을 위해 새롭게 개발된 절차이다.

국내 석탄화력발전소 11곳의 석탄회(비산재, 바닥재 및 매립회) 및 매립장 상등수를 채취하여 희유금속의 함량분포를 살펴보았다. 주요 전략광물인 이트륨(Yttrium) 및 네오디뮴(Neodymium)의 경우 약 23 ~ 75 mg/kg 범위로 나타났으며 별도의 회수기술 개발에 대한 가치가 충분한 것으로 판단되었다. 연간 발생하는 비산재 및 바닥재와 더불어 매립회의 양을 감안하면 국내 석탄화력발전소가 보유하고 있는 희유금속은 약 1.67조 원의 가치가 있는 것으로 조사되어 도시광산으로서 충분한 경제적 가치가 있는 것으로 판단된다. The content distributions of some rare metals and rare earthe metals in coal ash (fly ash, bottom ash and pond ash) and leachate from coal-fired power plants were investigated. In case of Yttrium (Y) and Neodymium (Nd) which were strategic critical elements, their contents were ranged from about 23 ~ 75 mg/kg and it is shown they are worth to be developed for the recovery and separation method. Considering the annual amount of fly ash and bottom ash and pond ash, coal-fired power plants have great value of about 1,670 billion KRW and it is regards they are worthy as urban mines.

The basic performance of the ground system is evaluated as the ground resistance by applying low frequency current below 1 kHz. However, characteristics of the ground system should be analyzed by high frequency current up to 1 MHz since transient currents having a few hundred kHz component flow during a line-to-ground fault and/or a lightning strike. This paper deals with the design and fabrication of a wideband ground impedance meter (WGIM) which measures the impedance of ground systems in ranges from 65 Hz to 1.28 MHz. Also, a noise elimination algorithm using a digital bandpass filter is proposed. The maximum error of the WGIM is 4.91% in the measurement frequency range.
