The role of customer service manual on workplace emotional burden in nationwide cross sectional study

        Sehyun Yun,Sung-Shil Lim,Jihyun Kim,Young-Kwang Kim,Jong-Uk Won,Jin-Ha Yoon 대한직업환경의학회 2019 대한직업환경의학회지 Vol.31 No.-

Background: We aim to discuss the overall effect of customer service manual (CSM) on service industry workers using Korean Working Condition Survey. Methods: Out of 50,007 total survey participants, 11,946 customer service workers were included in the current study (5613 men, 6333 women). Answers to survey questions were used to define the use of CSM, emotional burden, emotional dissonance, engaging angry customers and other covariates. Emotional burden included either depressive event or stress level. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of experiencing emotional burden was calculated by logistic regression model. Interaction effect between CSM and engaging angry customer on emotional burden was also estimated. Results: Out of 11,946 subjects, total of 3279 (27.4%) have experienced emotional burden. OR (95% CI) of experiencing emotional burden was 1.40 (1.19–1.64) in men and 1.25 (1.09–1.44) in women. There was gender difference in interaction effect between the use of CSM and engaging angry customers. In men, OR (95% CI) was 3.16 (1.38–7.23) with additive effect when always engaging angry customers with CSM compared to rarely engaging without CSM, while in women OR (95% CI) was 8.85 (3.96–19.75) with synergistic effect. Moreover, the risk of depressive event increased only in women with OR (95% CI) 2.22 (1.42–3.48). Conclusions: Our current study highlighted association between emotional burden and CSM in both men and women service workers. Furthermore, women were affected more severely by CSM. The results from current study suggest that CSM should be changed appropriately to benefit workers.

Development of a Conceptual Framework for Non-Adherence to Self-Management in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: An Exploratory Study

        Choi Ja Yun,Ryu Eui Jeong,Yun So Young,Cho Sehyun 한국성인간호학회 2024 성인간호학회지 Vol.36 No.2

Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a conceptual framework for understanding non-adherence to self-management among patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This was accomplished through a literature review, in-depth interviews with patients, and a survey of healthcare professionals featuring semi-structured open-ended questions. Methods: First, a systematic literature review was conducted across five databases. Next, 25 patients with COPD participated in detailed interviews that included seven semi-structured questions. Subsequently, 15 healthcare professionals completed a survey about factor categories and specific factors associated with non-adherence to COPD self-management. Categories and factors identified at least once across these three methods were documented. Finally, two researchers conducted preliminary mapping of the relationships between factor categories and individual factors, which was assessed for face validity by a third researcher. All processes were conducted from March 28, 2022, and January 30, 2023. Results: The research revealed eight factor categories and 53 individual factors associated with non-adherence to COPD self-management. The categories encompassed personal, socioeconomic, disease-related, functional, treatment-related, health system-related, and environmental characteristics. The literature review, patient interviews, and survey of healthcare professionals yielded 35, 19, and 44 factors, respectively. Twelve factors were identified using all three sources. All processes were conducted from March 28, 2022, and January 30, 2023. Conclusion: In this study, quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to develop a conceptual framework for non-adherence to COPD self-management. The findings indicate that effective self-management of this condition requires not only patient effort but also adaptations to complex treatment regimens, societal perceptions, and workplace environments.

Measurements of Blood Viscosity Using a Pressure-Scanning Slit Viscometer

Sehyun Shin,Sung-Woo Lee,Yun-Hee Ku 대한기계학회 2004 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.18 No.6

A newly designed pressure-scanning slit viscometer is developed to combine an optical device without refraction while measuring blood viscosity over a range of shear rates. The capillary tube in a previously designed capillary viscometer was replaced with a transparent slit, which is affordable to mount optical measurement of flowing blood cells. Using a pressure transducer, we measured the change of pressure in a collecting chamber with respect to the time. p( t). from which the viscosity and shear rate were mathematically calculated. For water, standard oil and whole blood, excellent agreement was found between the results from the pressure-scanning slit viscometer and those from a commercially available rotating viscometer. This new viscometer overcomes the drawbacks of the previously designed capillary viscometer in the measuring whole blood viscosity. First, the pressure-scanning slit viscometer can combine an optical instrument such as a microscope. Second, this design is low cost and simple (i.e., ease of operation, no moving parts, and disposable).

The Effect of Vibration on the Hemorheologicai Characteristics of Non-aggregated Blood

Sehyun Shin,Yun-Hee Ku,Su-Yeon Moon,Jang-Soo Suh 대한기계학회 2003 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.17 No.7

The present study investigates the hemorheological characteristics of blood flow with applying vibration to a non-aggregating red blood cell suspension. In order to obtain the non-aggre-gating RBC suspension, blood samples were treated with vibration at a specified condition, which viscosities were taken before and after the treatment, respectively. The viscosity of the blood samples after treatment was higher than before treatment. These treated blood samples were forced to flow through a capillary tube that was vibrated perpendicularly to the direction of the flow. The experimental results showed that vibration caused a reduction of the flow resistance of the non-aggregated blood. The reduction of the flow resistance was strongly dependent on both frequency and amplitude of vibration. These results show potential in treating various diseases in the microcirculation associated with blood cell aggregation.

Blood Viscosity Measurements Using a Pressure-Scanning Capillary Viscometer

Sehyun Shin,Do-Young Keum,Yun-Hee Ku 대한기계학회 2002 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.16 No.12

A previously designed capillary viscometer with measuring differential pressure was modified to measure the viscosity of non-Newtonian fluids including unadulterated blood continuously over numerous shear rates in a single measurement. Because of unavoidable experimental noise and a limited number of data, the previous capillary viscometer experienced an inaccuracy and could not directly determine a viscosity without an iterative calculation. However, in the present measurement there are numerous data available near the point of interest so that the numeric value of the derivative. d (ln Q)/d(\n ζw), is no longer sensitive to the method of differen-tiation. In addition, relatively low and wide shear rate viscosity measurements were possible because of the present precision pressure-scanning method with respect to time. For aqueous polymer solutions, excellent agreement was found between the results from the pressure-scanning capillary viscometer and those from a commercially available rotating viscometer. In addition, the pressure-scanning capillary viscometer measured the viscosity of unadulterated whole blood without adding any anticoagulants.

Supplementation of protease and different nutrient density diets in growing-finishing pigs

        Sehyun Park,Ji Hwan Lee,Won Yun,홍석만,오한진,송동철,장세연,Jae Woo An,조현아,Kyeongho Jeon,Jin Ho Cho 한국축산학회 2024 한국축산학회지 Vol.66 No.2

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of protease supplementation and different nutrient density of diets in growing-finishing pigs. A total of one hundred-eight crossbred growing pigs ([Landrace × Yorkshire] × Duroc) with an initial body weight (BW; 18.74 ± 3.46 kg) were used for 15 weeks. Pigs were randomly assigned to six dietary treatments with 6 replicates of 3 pigs per pen in a 3 × 2 factorial through the following arrangement: Three groups of protease (1, Basal diets; 2, Protease A: 125 mg/kg protease derived from Streptomyces sps; 3, Protease B: 100 mg/kg protease derived from Bacillus licheniformis) at two different nutrient density diets (1, Basal requirement; 2, 0.94%–0.98% higher than requirement in dietary protein and 50 kcal/kg in energy). High nutrient (HN) diets showed higher average daily gain (ADG) (p < 0.05) and apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of crude protein (CP) (p < .0001) compared to basal nutrient (BN) diets during growing periods. Supplementation of protease showed higher BW (p < 0.05) and ADG (p < 0.05) compared to non-supplementation of protease during growing periods. Also, supplementation of protease showed higher ATTD of CP (p < 0.01), ATTD of gross energy (p < 0.05) and decreased blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level (p = 0.001) compared to non-supplementation of protease during finishing periods. Pigs which fed the protease showed decreased ammonia (NH3) emissions (p < 0.05) during experiment periods and decreased hydrogen sulfide (H2S) emissions (p < 0.01) during finishing periods. Interactions between nutrient density and protease were observed, which decreased the feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05) in HN diets without protease compared to BN diets without protease during weeks 4 to 6. Also, interaction between nutrient density and protease was observed, which resulted in improved ATTD of CP (p < 0.01) in response to PTA supplementation with HN diets during the finishing period. In conclusion, supplementation of protease reduces NH3 in feces and BUN in whole blood by increasing the digestibility of CP and improves growth performance. Also, diets with high nutrient density improved growth performance and nutrient digestibility in growing periods.

      • Effect of Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture on Facial Elasticity: An Open-Label, Single-Arm Pilot Study

        Yun, Younghee,Kim, Sehyun,Kim, Minhee,Kim, KyuSeok,Park, Jeong-Su,Choi, Inhwa Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2013 Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medic Vol.2013 No.-

Background. The use of acupuncture for cosmetic purposes has gained popularity worldwide. Facial cosmetic acupuncture (FCA) is applied to the head, face, and neck. However, little evidence supports the efficacy and safety of FCA. We hypothesized that FCA affects facial elasticity by restoring resting mimetic muscle tone through the insertion of needles into the muscles of the head, face, and neck. Methods. This open-label, single-arm pilot study was implemented at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong from August through September 2011. Participants were women aged 40 to 59 years with a Glogau photoaging scale III. Participants received five treatment sessions over three weeks. Participants were measured before and after FCA. The primary outcome was the Moire topography criteria. The secondary outcome was a patient-oriented self-assessment scale of facial elasticity. Results. Among 50 women screened, 28 were eligible and 27 completed the five FCA treatment sessions. A significant improvement after FCA treatment was evident according to mean change in Moire topography criteria (from 1.70 ± 0.724 to 2.26 ± 1.059, P < 0.0001). The most common adverse event was mild bruising at the needle site. Conclusions. In this pilot study, FCA showed promising results as a therapy for facial elasticity. However, further large-scale trials with a controlled design and objective measurements are needed.

The ECU which is operating inductive actuator like motor or solenoid should be designed with considering the heat removal performance and the EMC performance. In most cases, these two performances are trade-off. Especially, the metal cover with plastic housing for improving heat removal performance can affect EMC performance by coupling the noise source to harness cable and connector. Therefore, after analyzing the EMC effectiveness of the metal cover, countermeasures for EMC noise reduction should be established. In this paper, by simulating and testing of AHB Gen3 ECU, the influence of the metal cover to EMC performance is analyzed. And based on this result, we propose solutions for EMC noise reduction.
