        제주도 지하수 질산염 농도의 시·공간적 변화 특성: 장기(1993-2015) 모니터링 자료의 평가

        1993년부터 2015년까지 관측된 제주도 지하수 장기모니터링 관측정(N = 4,835)에서 수집된 지하수 수질자료(N = 21,568)를 기반으로 질산성질소의 시공간적 변동 특성을 평가하였다. 제주도 지하수의 질산성질소 농도의 중앙값은 2.5 mg/L로서 다른 국가나 대륙의 조사 결과에 비해 다소 높거나 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 지하수 용도, 행정구역 및 고도 별로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 특히, 산간 지역에 비해 저지대 해안가에 위치한 농업 및 주거지역에서 농도가 높음을 확인하였다. Mann-Kendall 및 Sen’s slope 분석을 활용한 질산성질소 농도의 추세 분석 결과, 하류 저지 대에 비해 중산간지역에서의 질산성질소 농도 증가 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 제주도 내 토지 피복의 시계열 변화 특성과 결부 지어 보면, 중산간지역의 오염 증가 추세는 농업지역의 확장 등 인위적 활동 증가에 기인한 결과로 판단된다. 반면,기지정된 지하수자원특별관리구역에서는 전반적으로 질산성질소 농도의 감소 경향이 나타났는데, 이는 지하수 관리 측면에서 수질관리를 위한 적극적인 정책이 유효함을 시사한다. 본 연구에서는 제주도 지하수의 질산성질소 오염관리를 위한 적정 방안을 제안한다. The spatio-temporal variations of nitrate concentrations in groundwater of Jeju Island were evaluated by an analysis of time series groundwater quality data (N = 21,568) that were collected from regional groundwater monitoring (number of wells = 4,835) for up to 20 years between 1993 and 2015. The median concentration of NO 3 -N is 2.5 mg/L, which is slightly higher than those reported from regional surveys in other countries. Nitrate concentrations of groundwater in wells tend to significantly vary according to different water usage (of the well), administrative districts, and topographic elevations: nitrate level is higher in low-lying agricultural and residential areas than those in high mountainous areas. The Mann-Kendall trend test and Sen’s slope analysis show that nitrate concentration in mid-mountainous areas tends to increase, possibly due to the expansion of agricultural areas toward highland. On the other hand, nitrate concentrations in the Specially Designated Groundwater Quality Protection Zones show the temporally decreasing trend, which implies the efficiency of groundwater management actions in Jeju. Proper measures for sustainable groundwater quality management are suggested in this study.

      • Coadministration of basic fibroblast growth factor-loaded polycaprolactone beads and autologous myoblasts in a dog model of fecal incontinence.

        <P>Basic fibroblastic growth factor (bFGF), a member of the heparin-binding growth factor family, regulates muscle differentiation. We investigated whether coadministration of autologous myoblasts and bFGF-loaded polycaprolactone beads could improve sphincter recovery in a dog model of fecal incontinence (FI). FI was induced by resecting 25 % of the posterior anal sphincter in ten mongrel dogs. One month later, the dogs were randomized to receive either PKH-26-labeled autologous myoblasts alone (M group, five dogs) or autologous myoblasts and bFGF-loaded polycaprolactone beads (MBG group, five dogs). The outcomes included anal manometry, compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) of the pudendal nerve, and histology. The increase in anal contractile pressure over 3 months was significantly greater in the MBG group (from 4.85 to 6.83 mmHg) than that in the M group (from 4.94 to 4.25 mmHg), with a coefficient for the difference in recovery rate of 2.672 (95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.962 to 4.373, p = 0.002). The change in the CMAP amplitude was also significantly greater in the MBG group (from 0.59 to 1.56 mV) than that in the M group (from 0.81 to 0.67 mV) (coefficient 1.114, 95 % CI 0.43 to 1.80, p = 0.001). Labeled cells were detected in 2/5 (40 %) and 5/5 (100 %) dogs in the M and MBG groups, respectively. Coadministration of bFGF-loaded PCL beads and autologous myoblasts improved the recovery of sphincter function in a dog model of FI and had better outcomes than cell-based therapy alone.</P>

      • ICT Convergence Culture System using Automated Container Type Auricularia auricula-judae Mushroom Production Technology

        Information and communication technology(ICT) around the world in the 21st century presents a new vision of agriculture. Time, place, and the high-tech industry to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called “smart agriculture” is changing the landscape of agriculture. Precision Agriculture’s core container production for the mushroom cultivation temperature, humidity, irradiation, self-regulation, such as carbon dioxide, the optimal environment for mushroom cultivation was implemented. Auricularia auricula-judae, known as the Jew's ear, wood ear, jelly ear or by a number of other common names, is a species of edible Auriculariales fungus found worldwide. The fruiting body is distinguished by its noticeably ear-like shape and brown colouration. The fungus can be found throughout the year in temperate regions worldwide, where it grows upon both dead and living wood. We controlled different light source (Blue-Red-White combined LED, blue LED, red LED and fluorescent light) with different intensity of LED irradiation (1.5, 10.5 and 20.5 μmol/m2s for LEDs) to compare growth and development. Lights were treated with 12 hour on/ 12hour off cycle maintained in a controlled room with 19 ~ 21oC temperature, 85~95% humidity, and 1000ppm CO2 atmosphere concentration for 30 days. Growth and development differed from the LED color source and intensity of LED irradiation. Growth and development was most effective in 1.5 μmol/m2s irradiation for blue LED. All LED light sources showed less growth and development in highest intensity of irradiation, which indicates that higher than 20.5 μmol/m2s for LED is not effective. After harvesting fruit bodies, we measured their weight, length, width, thickness and chromaticity of fruit bodies. 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED group was the best result of harvest with average individual weight (5.38g), length (65.37mm), width (56.87mm) and thickness (13.51mm) with fine chromaticity. This results show us that 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED was the best effect on growth and development of Auricularia auricula-judae mushroom’s ICT system container type environment.

      • Estimating Serviceability Performances of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) Mixtures by Using GPC

        In this paper, first the aging level of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA): one of the widely applied asphalt mixture types for highway construction in South Korea, was analysed then those aging effects on various performance characteristics were studied. Then, a suitable methodology for improving performance on real asphalt pavement construction site was recommended. To fulfil the objective, Gel-Permeation Chromatography (GPC) experimental work was performed on various aged SMA mixtures by measuring Large Molecular Size (LMS) then the Absolute Viscosity (AV) value was predicted based on the findings in the previous step. As results, it was found that types of performance change on aged asphalt binders could be estimated by computed Estimated Absolute Viscosity (EAV) values. It also should be mentioned that the performances of tested SMA mixture presented negative trend after aging effect increases; even though the performance deterioration level of SMA is lower than that of regular Dense Grade Asphalt (DGA) mixture, which means proper reactions are recommended to keep its quality. Moreover, better resistance against aging effect was found by applying Hydrated-Lime (HL) or Low Density Poly-Ethylene (LDPE) compared to any other additives on asphalt mixtures. A unique Aging Quantity (AQ) model for SMA mixtures was developed by using two factors: collected aging time data set from field (and/or laboratory) and AV values based on different temperature conditions. The Predicted Absolute Viscosity (PAV) on SMA mixtures was computed by using the introduced AQ model then the aging level of asphalt binder was estimated as a final step. Additionally, five performance characteristics of asphalt binder: Dynamic Shear Rheometer(DSR) high temperature limit, Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) low temperature limit, G*/sinδ, Creep stiffness, and m-value, were analysed. The value of AV showed the best performance for predicting and representing aging level. Finally, the aging level of given asphalt mixtures in the field can be easily predicted by choosing one of three approaches presented in this research. It can be concluded that the performance of asphalt pavement can be increased by selecting proper materials and performance prediction methodologies introduced in this study. However, only limited number of specimens were considered in this study due to limit of raw materials and laboratory equipment condition. Therefore, extensive experimental works with various types of asphalt materials are recommended for strengthen findings in this thesis as a future research.

      • A Pixel Structure and a Simultaneous Driving Method for High Transmittance of Transparent Digital Information Displays

        <P>This paper presents a transparent digital information display (DID) using a field sequential liquid crystal display (FS-LCD). The pixel structure and simultaneous driving method for FS-LCD are proposed to improve the transmittance of a transparent DID and to reduce color mixing artifacts. The proposed pixel consists of a memory stage and a liquid crystal (LC) driving stage, and all pixels are simultaneously operated together as the programmed data in the memory stage is simultaneously transferred to the LC driving stage. In addition, the data voltage boosting method with memory capacitor is adopted to maintain the transmittance of FS-LCD. The measured transmittance, contrast ratio, and color gamut are 16.7%, 4000, and 85.6% compared to NTSC in the CIE-1931 color space, respectively. The measurement results of the proposed transparent DID show higher transmittance and wider color gamut compared to conventional DIDs. Furthermore, to verify the reduction in the color mixing artifact, the color variations (Δx and Δy) in the x-axis and y-axis of the CIE-1931 chromaticity diagram are measured. The Δx and Δy are smaller than 0.002 across the whole display panel. Therefore, the proposed transparent DID shows superior color uniformity by reducing color mixing artifacts.</P>

        <P>Conclusion: This controlled laboratory study verified, on the basis of biomechanics and histology, the potential for the use of ADFs in rotator cuff healing. The current results suggest a new biological supplement to increase the rate of rotator cuff healing.</P>

      • A framework to analyze cerebral mean diffusivity using surface guided diffusion mapping in diffusion tensor imaging

        <P>The mean diffusivity (MD) value has been used to describe microstructural properties in Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) in cortical gray matter (GM). Recently, researchers have applied a cortical surface generated from the T1-weighted volume. When the DTI data are analyzed using the cortical surface, it is important to assign an accurate MD value from the volume space to the vertex of the cortical surface, considering the anatomical correspondence between the DTI and the T1-weighted image. Previous studies usually sampled the MD value using the nearest-neighbor (NN) method or Linear method, even though there are geometric distortions in diffusion-weighted volumes. Here we introduce a Surface Guided Diffusion Mapping (SGDM) method to compensate for such geometric distortions. We compared our SGDM method with results using NN and Linear methods by investigating differences in the sampled MD value. We also projected the tissue classification results of non-diffusion-weighted volumes to the cortical midsurface. The CSF probability values provided by the SGDM method were lower than those produced by the NN and Linear methods. The MD values provided by the NN and Linear methods were significantly greater than those of the SGDM method in regions suffering from geometric distortion. These results indicate that the NN and Linear methods assigned the MD value in the CSF region to the cortical midsurface (GM region). Our results suggest that the SGDM method is an effective way to correct such mapping errors.</P>

        Double primary lung adenocarcinoma diagnosed by epidermal growth factor receptor mutation status

        A nodular density was detected on a chest radiograph taken from a 57-year-old Korean woman who was visiting a hospital for a routine check. Chest computed tomography revealed a 4.8 cm lobulated mass in the right lung and another focal nodular lesion in the left lung; biopsies of both lungs revealed adenocarcinoma. We conducted DNA sequencing and peptide nucleic acid clamping to investigate the potential double primary lung cancer. The results verified that the mass in the right lung had a mutation in the epidermal growth factor receptor, whereas the nodule in the left lung had a wild-type sequence, showing that these two were genetically different cancers from one another. Thus, we demonstrate that genetic testing is useful in determining double primary lung cancer, and we herein report on this case.

      • Antiangiogenic Effect of Ethanol Extract of <i>Vigna angularis</i> via Inhibition of Phosphorylation of VEGFR2, Erk, and Akt

        <P>Though dietary azuki bean (<I>Vigna angularis</I>) seed containing antioxidant proanthocyanidins was known to have multibiological activities including antioxidant, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities, the antiangiogenic activity of ethanol extract of <I>Vigna angularis</I> (EVA) was never reported so far. In the present study, the antiangiogenic mechanism of EVA was examined in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). EVA showed weak cytotoxicity in HUVECs, while it significantly suppressed the VEGF induced proliferation of HUVECs. Consistently, wound healing assay revealed that EVA inhibited the VEGF induced migration of HUVECs. Also, EVA abrogated the VEGF induced tube formation of HUVECs in a concentration dependent fashion. Furthermore, Matrigel plug assay showed that EVA significantly reduced the hemoglobin level of Matrigel plug in mice compared to untreated control. Of note, EVA effectively attenuated the phosphorylation of VEGFR2, Erk, and Akt in VEGF-treated HUVECs. Overall, our findings suggest that EVA inhibits angiogenesis in VEGF-treated HUVECs via inhibition of phosphorylation of VEGFR2, ERK, and Akt.</P>
