The eyes of male and female Rhagophthalmus ohbai are of very different sizes and possess approximately 3000 and 35 facets, respectively. In the male eye one can distinguish a smaller dorsal region with 500 facets and a larger ventral one with ca. 1800. Ultrastructural differences between them have been described earlier in this journal (Lau and Meyer- Rochow, 2006). Electrophysiological recordings from the two eye areas have now revealed that the ventral region is maximally sensitive to light of 600 nm wavelength, while the dorsal eye region responds maximally to light of 540-560 nm wavelengths. In the dorsal eye region sensitivity to UV-radiation at around 360 nm wavelength, being twice as high as that of the ventral eye region, amounted to ca. one quarter of peak wavelength sensitivity. The regional differences in spectral sensitivity seem to be a reflection of the different tasks of the two eye regions: looking downward to see the yellow light emitted by a female, sensitivity towards longer wavelengths would be advantageous, but looking upward into the twilight sky, sensitivity to shorter wavelength would be a more appropriate adaptation.

오늘날 "지속 가능한 개발(Sustainable Development)" 이라는 화두는 지역과 국가의 경제활동에 있어서 중요한 의제의 하나로 대두되고 있다. 그러나 "지속가능(Sustainability)"의 개념에 대한 정의와 측정에 대해서는 많은 논쟁이 오래 전부터 계속 되어왔다. 좁게는 지속가능의 범위를 경제적 활동영역에 국한 할 수도 있지만 지속 가능한 개발의 이념은 우리 인류의 경제적 활동 뿐만 아니라 자연자원을 포함한 인류전체의 복지를 포함한 모든 생태계의 조화로운 발전이 포함 되어야 한다. 본 논문은 기존의 국민총생산(GNP) 지표가 지속가능을 측정 하는 지표로 미흡하다는 점과 또 지속가능발전의 궁극적 목표인 국민복지를 제대로 반영하지 못한다는 것을 지적함과 동시에 "지속가능 (Sustainability)" 과 "국민복지 (Human-welfare)"의 측정에 있어서 4가지 중요한 구성요소로서 다양성(Diversity), 비 화폐적 경제활동(Non-monetized economic activity), 비 지속가능 활동의 수출(Export non-sustainability), 그리고 존재가치(Existence value; Non-use value,)를 제시하고자 하였다.

All horticultural crops currently under cultivations were derived plant brought from wild sources. Some of these crops like roses, chrysanthemums, gladiolus have undergone a great deal of improvement over the years, while other crops have basically been included into horticulture without any real improvement. My presentation will focus my plant collection trips to various countries and how they were used directly into cultivation. Further, many species of new flowers will be introduced and breeding program to improve horticultural characteristics and to create new types of flowers will be described.

Bei der Behandlung der Arbeitsverha¨ltnisse, der Auflo¨sung von Institutionen, dem Aufbau einer modernen Wirtschaftsstruktur, dem notwendigen Personaltransfer und bei der Behandlung der Eliten kann man einen Erkenntnisgewinn fu¨r Korea nur gewinnen ko¨nnen, wenn man als Szenario den Zusammenbruch des kommunistischen Nordkorea voraussetzt. Fu¨r andere Probleme, wie die von mi?? nicht behandelten Finanzierungsprobleme, ist die Art, wie es zu einer Einigung kommen wird, dagegen eher zweitrangig.
The impact of wafering on organic and inorganic surface contaminations

Beside the silicon feedstock material, the crystallization process and the cell processing itself, the wafer sawing process can strongly determine the final solar cell quality. Especially surface contamination is introduced in this process step because impurities from sawing meet with a virgin silicon surface which is highly reactive until the oxide layer is formed. In this paper we quantitatively analysed both, the organic and inorganic contamination on wafer surfaces and show that changes of process parameters during wafering may cause dramatic changes in surface purity. We present powerful techniques for the monitoring of wafer surface quality which is essential for the production of high efficiency and high quality solar cells.
Utilization of Grawfish Pigment and Other Fishery Processing By-Products

Concepts in fishery processing increasingly involve utilization of various by-products, traditionally identified as waste with minimal economic value. Among these are fish frames, whole crustacean meals for use in crustacean aquaculture, and the biopolymers, chitin and chitosan. More recent studies have focused on a variety of value-added uses for such processing by-products. Other investigations have included recovery of protein hydrolysates, soluble proteins and amino acids, and seafood flavor compounds. Extraction of the carotenoid astaxanthin from Louisiana crawfish processing wastes, and food-grade crabmeat and flavorants from blue crab processing, are discussed as examples of integrated approaches toward total by-product recovery.
