The aim of this research is to attempt to extend previous work in this field by devising a set of intervention activities which could be used by teachers to help children to develop towards the commonly accepted scientific understanding of sound from constructivist strategies, and to compare the children's ideas about sound between pre- and post- Intervention. A set of structured activities was then provided which should allow children to explore sound phenomena. Full sets of data were collected from 43 children in total(n=11 for grade 1, n=15 for grade 3, n=17 for grade 5). These data related to everyday sound, string telephone, drum, funnel and rubber band activities were analysed by some categorical schemes. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1. There are significant changes in children's ideas over the interventions. These changes are most conspicuous in connection with sound production and sound transmission. The age group which show most distinctive changes are the grade 3 and grade 5. The most effective activities in promoting change of sound production are drum and rubber band. 2. Examining the individual changes of schematic chart show that a large number of children have developed their ideas in a way which can help them to develop scientific thinking.

The development of robotic welding process is a very complex assignment because the system is affected by a number of process parameters which are very difficult to determine or predict in practice. The full automation welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, Productivity, micro structure and weld properties in arc welding processed have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on specific experimental result. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop an neural network model to predict the back-bead width as a function of key process parameters in the GMA (Gas Metal Arc) welding and to compare the developed models with the experimental results
Taxonomic Review of the Tribe Tenebrionini (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) in Korea

The tribe Tenebrionini of Korean Tenebronidae is reviewed taxonomically. Five species, Encyalesthus violaceipennis (Marseul), Menephilus lucens Marseul, Neatus ventralis (Marseul), Tenebrio molitor Linne, Tenebrio obscurus Fabricius, are recognized in Korea. A key to diagnosis of the genera and species, and figures of these species are presented.
Newly Recorded and Little Known Tenebrionid Species from Korea

Four tenebrionid species, Phaleromela subhumeralis (Marseul), Trachyscelis sabuleti Lewis, Parabolitophagus felix (Lewis), Metaclisa atrocyanea Lewis, and one tribe, Trachyscelini, are recorded for the first time from Korea. Also Korean materials of three tenebrionid species, Emypsara riederi (Faldermann), Ischnodactylus loripes Lewis, Bolitophagus reticulatus (Linne) are confirmed.

Lentinula edodes (L. edodes) is one of the popular edible or medicinal mushrooms consumed in many Asian countries. Nowadays, although the imported amounts of L. edodes mushroom produced in China are consistently increased in Korea, a reliable discrimination of it’s geographic origin remains very limited so far. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether the L. edodes cultivated from some cultivation regions in Korea could be discriminated against to the mushroom from somewhere in China by the C-N-O-S stable isotope composition analyses. δ13C, δ15N, and δ34S in L. edodes, except for δ18O, were significantly influenced by its cultivation origins (Korea versus China, p < 0.05). In general, δ13C, δ15N and δ34S values were higher in L. edodes produced from China compared to those from Korea. In particular, the L. edodes by a log cultivation was given in a lower δ15N values than that by a bag cultivation (p < 0.05). Regardless of different cultivation methods (a log vs a bag) depending on the mushroom cultivation regions, the 2-D plots of δ15N and δ18O showed a relatively clear discrimination of L. edodes mushrooms between Korea and China. In conclusion, the analysis of stable isotope ratios can be a suitable tool for a regional discrimination of L. edode sold in Korea, with potential application to other countries after certain validation steps.
Comparison of isoflavones in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill) germplasms by different origins

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] is one of the world’s most major crops as not only an important source of oil and protein, but also secondary metabolites. Intake of soybean is associated with decreased risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, as well as cancer, including breast and colon cancers. Seventy soybeans germplasms collected from 4 different countries, America (6 varieties), China (15 varieties), Japan (16 varieties), and Korea (33 varieties), were distributed by Chungbuk National University (Cheongju, Chungbuk, Korea) and cultivated in Konkuk University farm. This study investigated the isoflavones in seventy soybeans according to 4 different origins (America, China, Japan and Korea). Between 4 different origins, Korea showed highest concentrations of total isoflavones (1292.6 ± 438.6 ㎍ g-1) and China showed the lowest concentrations of total isoflavones (843.8 ± 365.7 ㎍ g-1). The total isoflavone contents in soybean of America and China ranged from 572.3 ㎍ g-1 to 2001.9 ㎍ g-1 and from 275.8 ㎍ g-1 to 1521.8 ㎍ g-1, respectively. And the isoflavone contents of Japan and Korea ranged from 473.3 ㎍ g-1 to 2314.6 ㎍ g-1 and from 419.0 ㎍ g-1 to 3010.7 ㎍ g-1, respectively. Malonylgenistin (356.9 ± 158.8 ㎍ g-1) was the major isoflavones among 12 isoflavones. Specially, glycoside and malonylglycosides constituted 49.2 % and 45.3 % of total isoflavones in soybeans, respectively.

한국産 거저리科 모래거저리屬에 속하는 2屬 (모래거저리屬과 작은모래거저리屬)에 대하여 현재가지 기록되어온 보고서들을 종합하고 과거 생물상보고서들의 기록 표본을 확인한 결과 2속 15종이 기록되어 왔으며 이들에 대하여 분류학적 재검토를 실시하였다. 그 가운데 Gonocephalum sabulosum은 Opatrum subaratum의 변이를 오동정 해 온 것으로 판단하여 제외시켰고 G. japanum, G. bilineatum, G. outreyi, G. malayanum의 국내 표본은 확인하지 못하고 국외 표본을 비교 관찰하여 본 논문에서는 총 2속 14종을 보고하는 바이다. 각 종의 연구사 및 국내외 분포지역을 서술하였고 Gonocepahalum속의 검색표는 문헌 및 실제 표본을 검토하여 작성하였으며 표본을 확인한 종들의 성충사진과 해부가 가능한 웅성 외부생식기 사진을 청부하였다. Fourteen species of the genus Gonocephalum and one species of the genus Opatrum (Tenebrionidae, Opatrini) from Korea have been previously recorded. They are taxonomically reviewed based on many faunistic reports and research papers. We also examined many specimens including voucher materials of the previous studies. Among the recorded species, G. sabulosum is excluded because it was misidentified for the individual variation of Opatrum subaratum. We couldn’t find any Korean materials of four species (G. japanum, G. bilinearum, G. outreyi, G. malayanum), and used the materials determined from other countries. Key to 13 species of the genus Gonocephalum, illustrations of adults and male aedeagus are provided.
An Experimental Study on Mathematical Model to Predict Bead Width in GMA Weldment

Generally welding is one of the most important processes to have a strong influence on the quality and productivity from a manufacture-based industry such as shipbuilding, automotive and machinery. The GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding process involves large number of interdependent welding parameters which may affect product quality, productivity and cost effectiveness. To solve such problems, mathematical models are required to select the welding parameters for GMA welding process. In this study, the GMA welding process was studied using the information generated during the welding. The statistical analysis of a generalized regression approach was conducted by the following three methods: Firstly using the mathematical model (linear regression, 2nd regression); Secondly GA(Genetic Algorithm) with intelligent models; And finally using response surface analysis of models to develop the relationships between welding parameters and bead width as welding quality.
