Objective : This study evaluated the effects of Oriental treatments on one patient who was diagnosed to Crohn s disease. Methods : One patient was diagnosed as Crohn s disease by physician. We used acupuncture and moxibustion at 曲池(LI11), 天樞(S25), 足三里(ST36), 合谷(LI4) and 大腸兪(GL25), 2 times per week about one month. We analyzed the change symptom by Crohn s disease activity index(Harvey-Bradshaw index) before and after treatment. Results : After treating acupuncture and moxibustion in the case, We found out that the Crohn s disease activity index score was significantly improved after treatment. First the number of liquid or very soft stool was decreased to 2 times a day and the stools became more solid condition. The abdominal pain and use of anti-diarrhea medication score came to none. The well being score set slightly below poor condition. Conclusions : These result suggest acupuncture, moxibustion were effective to Crohn s disease clinical symptom. These could help patient ordinary life by reducing abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Aims: To study the hepatic metabolite difference between patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and simple hepatic steatosis, and study the diagnostic accuracy of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) with long echo-time (TE). Methods: The local institutional review board approved this study and waived written informed consent. 1H-MRS measurements were performed on a localized voxel of the liver using a point-resolved spectroscopy sequence and hepatic metabolites of the alanine (Ala), lactate/triglyceride (Lac/TG), and TG were analyzed in patients with NASH (n=11), simple steatosis (n=15), and healthy controls (n=6). The group difference was tested with the ANOVA and Tukey’s post-hoc tests, and diagnostic accuracy was tested by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve. The values of metabolites were correlated with the histopathology and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) activity scores. Results: Patient with NASH showed significant elevated the Ala (p<0.001), Lac/TG (p<0.001), TG (p<0.05) concentration when compared with patients who had simple steatosis and healthy controls. The patients with NASH were significantly higher than simple steatosis in Ala (mean± standard deviation, 52.5±8.3 vs 2.0±0.9; p<0.001), Lac/TG (824.0±168.2 vs 394.1±89.8; p<0.05). The area under the ROC curve to distinguish NASH from simple steatosis was 1.00 (95% confidence interval; 0.1.0, 1.00) with Ala and 0.782 (95% confidence interval; 0.61, 0.96) with Lac/TG. The Ala and TG levels were well correlated with steatosis grade, lobular inflammation, and NAFLD activity scores. Conclusions: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD); non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH); 1H MR spectroscopy (1H MRS); hepatic metabolites.
Energy Detection using Adaptive Thresholds in Cognitive Radio Systems

Cognitive Radio systems offer the opportunity to improve spectrum utilization by detecting unused spectrum bands with respect to timing, and adapting the transmission to those bands while avoiding the interference to primary users. In this paper, the energy detector for detecting unoccupied spectrum bands substitutes fixed thresholds with adaptive thresholds for better performance. This paper shows the adaptive threshold, controlled by the average of the present threshold and the received signal power, makes the detector highly robust against fading, shadowing, and interference by simulation results.
Circularly Polarized Semi-Eccentric Annular Dielectric Resonator Antenna for X-Band Applications

<P>In this letter, a compact single-feed circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna is proposed for X-band applications. The radiator comprises a semi-eccentric annular dielectric resonator (DR), which is a semi-elliptical DR with a hollow elliptical cylinder. A vertical coaxial probe is located adjacent to a cutting surface of the DR to excite the proposed antenna. The two main design parameters, the aspect ratio of the elliptical DR and the feeding position, were optimized, and a prototype of the antenna was fabricated and tested. The experimental results exhibit a -10-dB reflection bandwidth of 29.14% (9.41-12.62 GHz) and a 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 5.71% (10.37-10.98 GHz). The measured peak gain varies from 4.17 to 4.78 dBic.</P>
