        Cryopreservation of Sporothalli of the Genus Porphyra (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) from Korea

        Cryopreservation of sporothalli of the red alga Porphyra (P. seriata, P. yezoensis, P. tenera, P. pseudolinearis and P. dentata) was performed by the two-step cooling method in liquid nitrogen. The algal samples were suspended in various cryoprotective solutions, and slowly cooled to -40$^{\circ}C$ in 4 hours using a programmed freezer. After the first slow cooling the suspensions with cryoprotectants were immediately immersed in liquid nitrogen. The suspension from the programmed freezer was thawed quickly by agitation of the vial in a water bath at 40°C. When ice in the suspension of cryogenic vial was mostly melted, the vial was transferred to an ice bath for complete melting of the residual ice. The cryoprotectants in the vial were washed off by gradual dilution with seawater. The viability of the cell was assessed with neutral red staining. The viability of Porphyra samples ranged 54.6-70.9% when the mixed suspension of 10% dimethylsulfoxide and 0.5 M sorbitol in 50% seawater used as a cryoprotectant.

      • Korea’s Security and Public Order Policy: Why Does KOREA Need a DETECTIVE SYSTEM?

        Korea’s rapid economic growth has further diversified its security environment, so Korea has been introducing a private security system to work with police since 1970, which is a crime prevention sys-tem in developed countries. However, in the case of the detective, all of the OECD member countries except Korea are active to introduce it as a major area of private security. Even though the detective system in Korea has not yet been legislated, the private investigators from developed countries have entered into Korea to conduct the detective works since Korea became an OECD member in 1996. Therefore, it is the right time for Korea to prepare for introducing a private detective system. The Korean detective system, however, began in the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945), and was regu-lated as Chosun governor general ordinance No. 82. in 1911, and then after liberation, the detective business was conducted again, but on September 23, 1961, the “Private Agency Regulation Act” was enacted and regulated. In Korea, there are a lot of companies that are engaged in real detective business by using the name of a consulting company or the cases where a private security company carries out a detective business, but they are crowded for doing this business with no legal basis. Therefore, this study aims to investigate and discuss the research questions on the necessity of the introduction of Korean detective business law through an in-depth interview with the expert group.

      • Factors of Job Satisfaction in Members Republic of KOREA National Intelligence Organizations : Focusing on POLICE Intelligence Agency

        An intelligence agency in modern society is being shared the roles depending on institution. In case of our country, it is being undertaken the industrial security by the National Intelligence Service(NIS), the national se-curity by the Defense Security Command, and the collection of public-safety information by the police. However, in case of the police, it is the real situation that cannot guarantee the quality of information due to the lack of manpower, to the budget, and to the very extensive scope of gathering information. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to questingly examine the factors of job satisfaction in employees of the police intelligence agency. Based on the outcome, a plan for improving job satisfaction in police intelligence officials was discussed. As a result of analyzing the job-satisfaction factors in the members of the police intelligence agency, it was indicated to be very satisfactory(7.6%), satisfactory(32.6%), moderate(33.6%), dissatisfactory(26.0%), and very dissatisfactory(0.0%). It was possessed 40.2% by adding ‘very satisfactory’ and ‘satisfactory’ and 26% by ‘dissatisfactory’ and ‘very dissatisfactory.’ As a result of analyzing the statistical value through frequency analysis, the positive opinion can be known to be higher than the negative opinion. As a result of the mean val-ue by factor, it was shown to be socio-cognition factor(4.20), economic-support factor(3.85), organizational-culture factor(3.58), field-operation factor(3.20), and infrastructure factor(3.12). As a result of this study, the improvement plans for job satisfaction in the police intelligence agency were shown to include a change in consciousness of members in the police intelligence agency, an increase in effi-ciency of a task through sharing information with other institutions, the intensification in a financial support for the activity of collecting information, the arrangement for the educational facilities and the curriculum for se-curing professionalism, and a change in a performance evaluation system of the information collection.         민간조사업의 주무관청 설정 방향

        이 연구는 국내의 민간조사의 주무관청의 설정방향에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였고, 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 현재 잠정적으로 민간조사업체 50% 이상이 밀집되어 있는 수도권의 서울지방경찰청과 경기지방경찰청에서 민간조사업무와 밀접한 연관성을 가지고 있는 경찰관 57명을 대상으로 최근에 개발된 Nvivo 8 프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 앞으로 민간조사업이 도입되면 주무관청은 경찰청과 민간전문기관으로 설정되어야 한다고 하였다. 이중 경찰청이 되어야 하는 것은 경비업과의 연관성 32(65.3%), 경찰과 협력성 14(28.5%), 경찰업무와 유사성 3(7.1%)로 나타났으며, 민간전문기관에 위탁되어야 하는 것은 전문성과 효율성 24(64.8%), 민영화 8(21.6%), 경찰인력부족 5(13.5%) 으로 범주화되었다. 연구결과를 종합하여 보면 국내 민간조사업의 주무관청을 경찰청이 되어야 하는 것은 기존의 민간경비업과의 연관성이 크기 때문인 것이고, 한편 민간전문기관을 주무관청으로 하여야하는 것은 민간전문기관이 전문성과 효율성이 크기 때문인 것이라는 결론을 도출하였다.

      • Roots of <i>Erigeron annuus</i> Attenuate Acute Inflammation as Mediated with the Inhibition of NF- <i><i>κ</i></i> B-Associated Nitric Oxide and Prostaglandin E <sub>2</sub> production

        <P><I>Erigeron annuus</I> is a naturalized plant belonging to Compositae (asteraceae) family, which is called the annual fleabane, and commonly found at meadows and roadside. This study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of the extract of <I>E. annuus</I> roots (EER), as assessed by the paw edema formation and histological analysis in rat, and the productions of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E<SUB>2</SUB> (PGE<SUB>2</SUB>), and pro-inflammatory cytokines in Raw264.7 murine macrophages. Carrageenan treatment promoted infiltration of inflammatory cells and caused swelling in the hind paw. Oral administrations of EER (0.3 g/kg and 1 g/kg) attenuated acute inflammation similar to the result using dexamethasone (1 mg/kg). Treatment of macrophages with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) simulated inflammatory condition: LPS significantly increased the productions of NO, PGE<SUB>2</SUB>, and proinflammatory cytokines. EER suppressed activation of macrophages, preventing the induction of iNOS and COX-2 protein expressions. LPS treatment induced phosphorylation of I-<I><I>κ</I></I>B<I><I>α</I></I> and increased the level of nuclear NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B protein, both of which were suppressed by concomitant treatment of EER. In conclusion, EER ameliorated acute inflammation in rats, and the induction of NO, PGE<SUB>2</SUB>, and proinflammatory cytokines in Raw264.7 cells. EER's effects may be associated with its inhibition of NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B activation, suggesting its effect on inflammatory diseases.</P>

        Concentrations and Distributions of 5 Metals in Groundwater Based on Geological Features in South Korea

        To establish new metal groundwater standard, 5 metals such as aluminum, chromium, iron, manganese, and selenium were evaluated by Chemical Ranking Of groundWater pollutaNts (CROWN) including possibility of exposure, toxicity, interest factor, connection standard for other media, and data reliability. 430 groundwater samples in 2013 and 2014 were collected semiannually from 110 groundwater wells and they were analyzed for selenium, manganese, iron, chromium, and aluminum. For this study, 430 groundwater samples were categorized into 3 geological distribution features, such as igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock region and geological background levels were divided by pre-selection methods. For the results, the average concentrations of aluminum, chromium, iron, manganese, and selenium in 430 groundwater samples were 0.0008 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, 0.0001 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, 0.174 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, 0.083 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, and 0.0004 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP><SUP></SUP>, respectively. In addition, among various geologies, average concentration of selenium was the highest in igneous rock region, average concentrations of chromium, manganese and aluminum were the greatest in sedimentary rock region, and average concentration of iron was the most high in metamorphic rock region. As a result of the geological background concentration with pre-selection method, background concentrations of selenium and aluminum in groundwater samples were the highest from sedimentary rock as 0.0010 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP> and 0.0029 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP> and background concentrations of manganese and iron in groundwater samples were the greatest from metamorphic rock as 0.460 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP> and 1.574 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, and no chromium background concentration in groundwater samples was found from all geology.
