Landau Damping Effect on Electron-impact Collisions in Magnetized Plasmas
Hong-Min Kim,changgeun Kim,Jhong-chan Ahn,Kyun-shik Chae,Panso-o Kim 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.49 No.III
The Landau damping effect on electron-ion elastic collisions in uniformly magnetized dense plasmas is investigated. The eikonal method can be applied to obtain the scattering cross section in a dynamically-screened Coulomb field in terms of the eikonal phase including the dynamic polarization effect through the longitudinal component of the plasma dielectric function. The domains of the velocity, frequency, and impact parameter for the Landau damping effect on the scattering cross section are discussed. It is also found that the Landau damping effect reduces the collision cross section and is more significant when the projectile velocity is greater than the electron thermal velocity.
