Upregulation of heme oxygenase-1 by ginsenoside Ro attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in macrophage cells

Background: The beneficial effects of ginsenoside species have been well demonstrated in a number of studies. However, the function of ginsenoside Ro (GRo), an oleanane-type saponin, has not been sufficiently investigated. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of GRo in vitro using the Raw 264.7 mouse macrophage cell line treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and to clarify the possible mechanism of GRo involving heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), which itself plays a critical role in self-defense in the presence of inflammatory stress. Methods: Raw 264.7 cells were pretreated with GRo (up to $200{\mu}M$) for 1 h before treatment with 1 mg/mL LPS, and both cell viability and inflammatory markers involving HO-1 were evaluated. Results: GRo significantly increased cell viability in a dose dependent manner following treatment with LPS, and decreased levels of reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide. GRo decreased inflammatory cytokines such as nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 induced by LPS. Moreover, GRo increased the expression of HO-1 in a dose dependent manner. Cotreatment of GRo with tin protoporphyrin IX, a selective inhibitor of HO-1, not only inhibited upregulation of HO-1 induced by GRo, but also reversed the anti-inflammatory effect of GRo in LPS treated Raw 264.7 cells. Conclusion: GRo induces anti-inflammatory effects following treatment with LPS via upregulation of HO-1.

지역 체육인재육성을 위한 특화프로그램이 프로그램에 참여한 초 ․ 중학생의 기초체력에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to find the effect that the special program which has been acted to junior 50 persons who live in Namgu, Donggu in Incheon area for 8 weeks give to their foundational physical strength. A public health center of Incheon Namgu made a comparative study their foundational physical strength data which has been acted to junior 50 persons before and after taking athletic program. Also, they compared elite junior athlete's foundational physical strength who resistered in Incheon Swimming Federation and Incheon Athletic Federation and the subjects's foundational physical strength for finding how much increased the subeject's foundational physical strength level for 8 weeks athletic program. As an result, it has some statistically similar difference in muscular endurance, power, agility, percent body fat to subject's foundational physical strength. Also, there is an statistically similar difference only in power on the research of the comparison which elite junior athlete's foundational physical strength and subject's foundational physical strength after taking athletic program . we mentioned these results on basis of existing researches which conducted junior's foundational physical strength increasing by athletic program. 일부농촌 지역노인들의 유병상태와 일상생활 능력

This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence rate, activity of daily living of rural elderly. The study group was composed of 820 old people aged 65 or more, living in Chungnam provincial area. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The prevalence rate rise rapidly with increasing age and that of male was 65.9%, and female was 70.8%. The prevalence rate of chronic diaseses were the highest in muscular disease and arthropathy as 51.5%, 16.8% in cerebrovascular disease and 12.6% in respiratory disease. 2. The ability score of daily living of male as 76.3% was similar that of female as 74.7%. The ability score of daily living went down with increasing age and statistically significant(P<0.01). The ability score of daily living of those who were not ill were higher than that of those who were ill. The ADL of those who have been a spouse was higher than that of those who were single. The number of family member and alcohol drinking influenced to the score of ADL, but level of education and smoking didn't influenced to that. The diseases that influenced to the score of ADL were cerebrovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes mellitus. The factors that influenced to the ADL were age, the presence of chronic disease, alcohol drinking, and the number of family members. 3. The score of cognitive function of male as 89.3% was higher than that of female as 86.1%. The score of cognitive function was the highest in 65-69 years of age. The presence of ill didn't influence the score of cognitive function. The score of cognitive function of those who have been a spouse was higher than that of those who were single. The number of family member, alcohol drinking, level of education, and smoking didn't influence the score of cognitive function. The score of cognitive function were high in renal disease, hepatic disease, and cancer, but that were low in cerebrovascular disease, muscular disease and arthropathy, and respiratory disease. The factors that influenced to the cognitive function were age, marital status.

Image compression techniques have been necessary to transfer and save a great amount of image data in an efficient way. Because the compression and decompression of image signal require the real time processing, various hardware implementation methods have been studied. In this paper we propose the algorithm which is parallel form of processing 2 dimensional 8*8 blocks simultaneously, so increase speeds. It outputs compressed bit sequences 8 clocks later for the input data synchronized to clocks. Proposed algorithm is designed using VHDL. Simulation and circuit synthesis has been performed by the Powerview CAD Tool on the SUN Sparc-10 workstation. Results shows that maximum operating frequency is up to 15㎒. The final schematic circuit and comparison of processing speed are shown.

단시간 서킷트레이닝이 허리 근기능 개선에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to how the strength exercise program affected the lumbar functional improvement of lumbar pain patients. Subjects were consisted of 30~40 years old male and female with lumbar pain that have trained in 8 weeks, 2 times a week, 60 minutes per session. The lumbar strengths were measured by flexion and extension of MedX lumbar extension machine. The results were as results; The significant improvement was founded on the angle from 0 to 72 in lumbar strength after 8 weeks training in all group. Especially, angle of 24, 48, 60 have improved in the female group compared to pre-exercise (p<.001). And angle of all have improved in the male group compared to pre-exercise (p<.01). The results suggested that the strength exercise program has a positive effect on improvement of lumbar strength, and further study need to like to degenerative diseases of different back type for more effects. 중학교 체육수업에서의 성차별에 관한 연구

This research aimed to investigate the characteristics of sexual discrimination experienced by students in co-ed physical education courses. Specifically, two major issues have been analyzed: the types of discrimination felt by students in co-ed physical education courses, and the schemes to improve discrimination as preferred by students, in order to deduce strategies for the reduction of discriminative factors in co-ed physical education courses. The responses derived from 214 students have been analyzed using a three-step categorization. Likewise, the type of discrimination experienced and preferred types of improvement have been fully analyzed according to differences in sex and year of students and sex of teachers. Results show that the sexual discrimination experienced in co-ed physical education courses can be categorized into five general areas of inequality in classes, wrongful punishment, unjust valuation, biased teachers, and discrimination of roles. Likewise, there was a difference in the response to sexual discrimination between male and female students. There was also a difference in the response between third and second year students. However, there was not much difference in the overall cognition of sexual discrimination of teachers. In addition, the preferred improvement factors of sexual discrimination in co-ed physical education can be categorized into six general areas of inequality in class, unequal valuation, unjust punishment, predisposition of teachers, discrimination of role, and discrimination of facilities.
