전라남도 남해안지역 별신제 연구

전라남도에도 별신제가 있다. 규모는 작지만 내용상으로 볼 때, 조선시대 지배담론이자 주류 정치력이었던 유학을 중화의 입장에서가 아니라 민족주체성에 입각하여 주체적으로 수용하는 모습이 적극적으로 투영된 귀한 사례이자 자산으로 판단하였다. 독자적인 문화가 문화권을 형성하면서 여전히 전승력을 이어오고 있는 전라도 지방의 별신제를 이 관점에 입각하여 주목하면서 그 실상을 파악함과 동시에 그 가치를 규명을 시도하였다. 현존하거나 최근까지 전승력이 이어졌던 사례 17곳을 살펴본 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 그 분포지대를 보면 행정상으로는 고흥군 일원과 장흥?강진 일원에 집중돼 있다. 대부분 해안가라는 특성을 보인다. 섬 지방에는 별신제가 발견되지 않는다. 별신굿이 섬 지방에 주로 분포하는 것과 대비된다. 반촌에서 거행되고 있었다는 공통점을 갖고 있다. 그 경제적 기반은 농업이었다. 제의방식 또한 모두 유교식제례가 중심을 이루고 있다. 특히, 국가사전의례에 준하는 제례절차가 도입돼 있다는 특성을 보여준다. 의병운동에 적극 동참이나 사회개혁의지가 발현되는 반골기질이 강하게 드러나며, 별신의 신격을 삼양이라는 개념과 동일시 할 정도로 주체적인 사상과 신앙을 발현시키려는 모습이 별신제에 투영돼 있다. 그 연장선에서 별신제를 천제라 여길 정도로 자존과 주체의식이 강하게 발현되고 있다. 심지어 새로운 혁세사상과 그 뜻을 펼쳐나갈 토양과 틀로서 마을굿을 적극 수용하여 안정적으로 이를 갈무리해나갈 문화적 장치로서 별신제를 새롭게 창출시켜낸 측면까지 엿보인다. 지식인들이 창출의 주체이자 전승의 주체였기에 가능했던 모습이라고 해석된다. 지식인들이 전승 주체였기에 민족정신과 기개를 바탕으로 시대정신을 적극 수용하여 기존의 마을굿 문화와 결합시켜낸 양상이라고 볼 수 있다. This thesis analyzes specific characteristics of Namhae Byolsin-Je. As be called not as ‘?? Kut’, but as ‘?? Je(祭)’, the name of Namhae Byeolsin-Je at Jeollanam-do denotes the influence of Confucianism. Though Namhae Byeolsin-Je is generally performed at Banchon based on agriculture, it has appeared in formats of Maeul-Kut. This indicates that it has deeply rooted at national culture. And it also has the willingness to include the idea of Confucianism for the purpose of vitalizing national vigor. Furthermore, the formats of Maeul-Kut are adopted as both its frame and groundwork for realizing new revolutionary ideologies. This adoption reinvents Byeolsin-Je as a cultural device to complete processes for progressing their society. It could be possible since the intellectuals lived in each Maeol have been major subjects of performance and transmission of Byeolsin-Je. Besides in the other regions, the subjugated classes are performers of Maeol Kut so its object was in the hope of flourishing in fundamental needs of living. In other words, as intellectuals have been subjects of successions of it, Nahae Byolsin-Je has specific appearance based on national mentality and vigor in conventional culture of Maeol-Kut that reflected the spirit of ages.

전남 마을굿 전승에 기여할 학술 연구방안 모색

마을굿은 이미 고사했다는 진단을 전제로 한 가운데 마을굿의 전승력 제고에 기여할 수 있는 학문적인 방안모색을 시도해보았다. 이를 위해 우선 마을굿을 살아있는 생명체로 인식해야 하며, 마을굿의 변화원리와 생성원리를 파악하는 것을 연구의 요체로 파악하였다. 살아있는 생명체라는 점을 파악하기 위해서는 생태적 차원에서 마을굿을 조망하는 시각을 요구하게 된다. 이를 위해 마을굿이 갖는 공동체성을 중시하여 그 공동체성을 파악하기 위한 연구방향과 영역을 검토하였다. 제의공동체성, 회의공동체성, 생산공동체성, 놀이공동체성에 주목하여 살펴 본 결과 회의공동체성에 대한 관심과 연구결과는 전무한 상태였다. 특히, 연구 방법론에서의 큰 아쉬움은 마을굿을 생성시켜 낸 전승주체의 세계관과 지식의 토대, 그리고 문화적 환경에 대한 이해가 결여돼 있다는 점이다. 즉, 동양문화권에 속한 한국의 민속, 그 중에서도 마을굿을 파악하기 위해서는 기본적으로 마을굿 구성에 직접적으로 영향을 미친 유학, 불교, 도교 등의 종교관, 철학, 세계관 등에 대한 기본 지식이 요구되며, 동아시아역사와 정치에 대한 시각과 감각을 겸비할 필요성을 제기할 수 있었다. 마을굿의 생성원리를 파악하기 위해서는 인문지리에 대한 이해가 필요하며, 그 과정에서 여러 인접학문과의 만남이 필요하다. 아울러 문화권을 통한 시야와 접근법이 요구된다. 궁극적으로는 마을굿에 담긴 신앙과 정신세계를 파악하는 것이 요구된다. 마을굿에 담긴 철학과 사상을 규명하게 되면 이를 바탕으로 한 민속연구방법론도 도출시켜낼 수 있을 것으로 보았다. 이 모든 것은 마을굿의 생존과 새로운 차원에서의 마을굿 조성을 위해 필요한 기초작업에 해당한다. 구체적인 실천 현장에서 그 성격, 방향성, 내용구성을 결정하고 선택하여 적용시켜나가는데 있어 실질적으로 원용되고 쓰이게 될 요소들이자 원리이기도 하다. 이에 근거하여 마을굿의 생존을 적극적으로 모색하기 위한 방안으로 마을굿을 수익창출의 기제로 볼 필요성, 마을굿의 가치를 적극 규명?계발하여 대중적인 인식을 제고시키기 위한 적극적인 홍보로 연결시킬 필요성, 종교성을 해결할 수 있는 방안 제기, 다양한 영역에서의 새로운 마을굿을 조성하려는 적극적인 시도, 마을굿 살리기 차원의 정책개발과 이를 법제화 차원에서의 실현방안 모색을 각각 제기하였다. 현 단계에서는 이에 대한 가치판단을 내릴 정도로 가시화되거나 성과가 드러나지 않기 때문에 저마다 가능성을 갖고 행동에 옮겨 추진하는 실천이 필요한 시기로 진단하였으며, 이 과정에서 민속학과 민속학자들의 역할이 중요함을 역설하였다. 타당성을 입증하고 구체적인 방안을 제시하는 차원에서뿐만 아니라 기획과 실행에의 동참도 포함된 역할 제기였다. 특히, 민간차원에서의 자생적인 움직임을 추동하는데 있어 좀 더 적극적인 민속학과 민속학자들의 관심표명제고와 더불어 실천에의 동참을 제기하였다. 그 현장은 바로 새로운 민속학의 연구 대상이 될 것이라는 인식에 바탕을 둔 제안이었다. Nowadays, Maeul-Kut(Kut in village) is seemed to nearly become extinct. Based on recognizing conditions of Maeul-kut, we are going to find how to pass down Maeul-Kut and rebuild it, especially by academic effort. For this, we have to acknowledge Maeul-Kut as living organism, and to figure out the fundamental of producing and changing about Maeul-Kut. To realize that Maeul-Kut is living organism, the ecological view is necessary. In this view, undestanding about the character of Maeul(it has same meaning to village) is very important. There are five major characters about Maeul-as ritual community, common decision making community, producing community, entertaining coommunity. But the survey for the character as common decision making community is very insufficient until now. Especially about research methodology, the understanding about main agents of transmission of Maeul-Kut, the vision of the world in Maeul-Kut, and cultural circumstances around it is seriously insufficient. It means that we ought to broaden knowledge about religions like Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and philosophy in the context of Korean folklore which belong to Asian cultural area. The sensitive viewpoint about East Asian history and politics is also required. For finding a fundamental about making Maeul-Kut, understanding about anthropogeography, attempts to broaden knowledge about other learning and approach it through the concept of cultural area are essential. After that, we would be able to develop research methodology based on philosophy that inherent in Maeul-Kut. All of this is basic process to revive Maeul-Kut in the new stage. That is also important concepts which will be adapted for specific affairs. In this text, there are several measures to survival of Maeul-Kut these days. Maeul-Kut can be developed as one of profit models for a village. It is needed to make effort for introducing the value of Maeul-Kut and increase public awareness about it. The problems about relationship with different religions are so severe that we should try many attempts to unite many religions within the philosophy of Maeul-Kut. And attempts to rebuild village in country side and build new concepts about village in modern city is also necessary. This is the time to begin making attempts to open possible new stage. In this process, the roles of folklorists and folklore studies are very important. They have roles in not only proving validity and suggesting specific methods but also leading actual activities to revive Maeul-Kut. If they make more enthusiastic movements, popular movement by the grass roots could be occurred. Besides the more Maeul-Kut revived, the more realistic study objects of folklore can be maintained and developed.

A Stock Return Decomposition Study of Chinese AB Share Dual-listed Companies

This paper studies the difference between AB share dual-listed stocks from a new perspective. Unexpected returns of twin stocks in AB share are decomposed into unexpected cash flow news and unexpected discount rate news. Also, sensitivities, which is known as beta, towards the two news for twin stocks are also studied. The finding is that cash flow news and discount rate news of twin stocks in different markets are not significantly different, however, investors in the two markets act differently towards these news. Besides, stocks are sorted into characterized portfolios and growth and small stocks have both high cash flow beta and discount rate beta. Pricing of cash flow beta and discount rate beta is also examined by three models, two-beta ICAPM model, two-beta CAPM model and two-beta factor model. Two-beta ICAPM model presents better performance, but all three models seem to lose explaining power when recent data is used.

Trade Credit and Shadow Banking Activities : Evidence from China

This paper examines the relationship between trade credit and shadow banking activities measured by inter-corporate entrusted loans. Using a panel data of Chinese listed firms, we find that entrusted loans have a significant substitution effect on the supply of trade credit and the substitutional effects are mitigated during financial crisis periods. Propensity score matched samples and a difference-in-difference approach provide robustness to our findings. Our evidence suggests that trade credit interrelates with shadow banking activities on corporate financing.

Refinancing Risk, Liquidity, and the Underpricing of Newly Issued Bonds

This study examines the effect of refinancing risk and liquidity before bond offering date on the underpricing of newly issued corporate bonds. Using a sample of U.S. corporate bond seasoned offerings, we find that the refinancing risk increases the initial returns of corporate bond offerings, while the liquidity before bond offering date decreases the underpricing of corporate bonds. The relationship between pre-liquidity and the initial returns is pronounced for firms with high refinancing risk and costly external financing.

Geographical Concentration and Creditor Coordination: Evidence from Syndicated Loan Covenants

This paper examines how the geographical distance between the lead and the participant bank lenders influences syndicated loan covenants. We find that greater distance is associated with the presence of covenants, the number of covenants, and the probability of covenant violation. These results hold when we use the introduction of new airlines to proxy the decrease in the travel time among lenders. Our results suggest that geographic proximity reduces agency conflicts among syndicated loan creditors.

Prediction of Corporate Bankruptcy with Machine Learning

This study examines the predictability of various machine learning and deep learning models in corporate default forecasts. Using a sample of U.S. corporate defaults over the period of 1963-2020, we find Ensemble classifier and Bi-LSTM classifier forecast the corporate bankruptcy better than other models and the predictability of the Ensemble classifier is more stable in year-to-year variability. Further, machine learning models outperform deep learning models in high yield grade samples, while deep learning models performs better than machine learning models in investment grade samples.

CORRECT? CORECT!: Classification of ESG Ratings with Earnings Call Transcript

While the incorporating ESG indicator is recognized as crucial for sustainability and increased firm value, inconsistent disclosure of ESG data and vague assessment standards have been key challenges. To address these issues, this study proposes an ambiguous text-based automated ESG rating strategy. Earnings Call Transcript data were classified as E, S, or G using the Refinitiv-Sustainable Leadership Monitor's over 450 metrics. The study employed advanced natural language processing techniques such as BERT, RoBERTa, ALBERT, FinBERT, and ELECTRA models to precisely classify ESG documents. In addition, the authors computed the average predicted probabilities for each label, providing a means to identify the relative significance of different ESG factors. The results of experiments demonstrated the capability of the proposed methodology in enhancing ESG assessment criteria established by various rating agencies and highlighted that companies primarily focus on governance factors. In other words, companies were making efforts to strengthen their governance framework. In conclusion, this framework enables sustainable and responsible business by providing insight into the ESG information contained in Earnings Call Transcript data.
