Performance Evaluation of Prestressed Concrete Bridges using Field Test Data and FE Analysis
Ghi Ho Tae,Byung Wan Jo,Cheol Hwan Kim 대한토목학회 2006 KSCE journal of civil engineering Vol.10 No.4
Testing results of six existing prestressed concrete bridges are used to evaluate analytical methodology. These bridges cover different span lengths, number of lanes, and skew angles. Strains, load distribution factors, and ratings predicted by finite element analyses and AASHTO code specifications were compared with those from measurements. The comparison revealed a significant difference between numerically simulated and measured results due to the effects of many field factors. Factors that exist in reality but whose effects on bridge performance cannot easily be quantified are defined as field factors. Due to thses field factors, existing bridges are different from idealized models and are thus defined as fields bridges. To examine this difference and to quantify their effects, some field factors were modeled in a more refined finite element analysis. It is found that field factors have a larger effect on the maximum strain than on the load distribution factor. Parametric studies of the effects of diaphragms, bearing stiffness, and shew angles on the load distribution and maximum strain were conducted.
Finite Element Analysis for Setting Shrinkage Stress of Recycled-PET Polymer Concrete
Ghi Ho Tae,Byung Wan Jo 대한토목학회 2006 KSCE journal of civil engineering Vol.10 No.4
Results from experimental and analytical investigation on the setting stress of recycled-PET polymer concrete are presented. Setting shrinkage test on polymer concrete was carried out and the fractal dimension of the crack patterns detected on microscope images was measured. Numerical simulations of the tests were performed by means of a lattice model and non integer dimensions were measured on the predicted lattice damage patterns. The setting shrinkage cracks that are obtained with lattice are is good agreement with the experimental results.

Anchorage zone in prestressed concrete cable stayed bridges is very important area due to the more accurate analysis is needed to estimate the behavior. In the study, since the cable anchorage zone in the prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridge is subject to a large amount of concentrated tendon forces, it shows very complicated stress distributions and causes a serious local cracks. A ccordingly, It is necessary to investigate the parameters of affecting the stress properties, such as the cable inclination, the position of anchor plate, the modeling method and the three dimensional effect. The tensile stress distribution of anchorage zone is compared to the actual design condition by varing the stiffness of spring element in the local modeling and an appropriate position of anchor plate is determined. These results would be elementary data to the stress state of anchorage zone and more efficient design.

As form a part of way to improve the durability of concrete placed on deleterious environments such as acidic rivers, sewageㆍwastewater, and sewer system, the paper presented here is the results of experimental immersion test, and for the test solution, 4 types sulfuric acid solution was prepared. As the other evaluation items, compressive strength, and carbonation depth were measured for mortar specimens and BFS50 mortar showed the lowest carbonation depth. Furthermore, in case of reduction in compressive strength, BFS50 resulted with most small reduction rate. From the result of EDS analysis of cement paste at 180 days of immersion, the detected major chemical elements were Ca and S and they are assumed as composing elements of gypsum.

In this study, the effect of blast furnace slag on precast concrete culvert was assessed by measuring the flexural strength using to full scaled box culvert. As a result, the initial cracking load and yield load of reinforced concrete box converts are increased in comparison with those of the normal concrete box culvert, but the ultimate load is decreased slightly. It can be concluded that use of blast furnace slag induce to flexural strength in precast concrete box culvert greatly improved the serviceability.
