Influenza A virus subtype H7N9 has received great attention since the first human case was reported at the beginning of this year. The viral characteristics have been quickly brought into research process. Here, the effect of temperature and live poultry market has been considered on the basis of analysis of existing data. As expected, both temperature and live poultry market has significant impact on the spread of this epidemic. Finally, the effect of government reactions and medical treatment on response was discussed. It indicated that sufficient and rapid reactions did not always lead to a perfect outcome which proved the influence of temperature and live poultry market potentially. Research highlights: The effect of temperature on H7N9 avian influenza is proved by analyzing the latitude and temperature of affected area. The effect of live poultry markets on H7N9 avian influenza is confirmed by analyzing the relationship between the number of live poultry markets in affected area and incidence of H7N9 human infection. The effect of government actions and medical treatment is studied and it turned out the result is not in accordance with actual efforts.

Shrinkage cavity, microporosity, blowhole and the likes are the typical void defects in ingot. Only through reasonable hightemperature deformation and heat preservation process can the void defects be closed and welded to ensure the high qualityof forgings. However, there are few researches on the welding behavior of voids, and the understanding of the void weldingmechanism is still insufficient. In order to further study the welding behavior of void and explore the welding mechanism, the welding process of void and microstructure evolution around void under thermal mechanical coupling were studied byphysical simulation. The results show that heating temperature, holding time, plastic deformation play an important role invoid welding. The void welding degree increases with the increase of heating temperature, holding time and plastic deformation. Besides, there are three main welding mechanisms for void defects, including the volume of microvoids decreasesdue to vacancy diffusion, the void welding mechanism caused by the austenite-ferrite transformation at lower temperaturesand the void welding mechanism caused by recrystallization and grain growth of austenite grains at higher temperatures.

In 1862 the Qing government established the Tongwen Guan 同文館 (School of Combined Learning), a foreign language school in Beijing. This well-financed school adopted a series of admissions reforms to recruit intellectually promising students. It also developed a comprehensive curriculum, which included language study and modern science. Despite these efforts, it failed to supply specialists in either foreign affairs or science and engineering for China`s modernization. Scholarship has attributed the failure of the school to the hostility of Chinese literati toward the West and their contempt for science and technology, but an in-depth discussion of the structure and actual operation of the school is lacking, meaning that other possible causes for its failure have not been adequately investigated. This article therefore takes an institutionalist view to uncover the internal factors leading to the school`s failure and argues that the promising effect of the educational reforms was largely constrained by the school`s institutional weakness.

The primary objective of this work is to present a three-dimensional (3D) clearance model of the paired bearings support joint (PBS-joint) and address the influence of PBSjoint clearance on the accuracy of the spatial multi-loop mechanism. Through the synthetic use of the vector and homogeneous coordinate transformation methods, the 3D clearance model of the PBS-joint is obtained on the basis of the static balance condition. When clearance is equated as a spatial virtual link, the error space solution models of serial mechanism and single-loop mechanism are developed respectively according to the Denavit-Hartenberg method and the geometric closure condition. The error space standardization solution model of the multi-loop mechanism is then presented through improving the low-layer loop sequence description method of the topological structure relations. Finally, the application in the basic loop mechanism is demonstrated to discuss the procedures adopted in this work and the influence of the PBS-joint clearance. Results show that the PBS-joint clearance may cause the error on the point with a 3D deviation transmission path to deviate the normal distribution. Moreover, the plane-joint clearance model may not yield an accurate analysis of the spatial mechanism.

The HAP complex has been found in many eukaryotic organisms. HAP recognizes the CCAAT box present in the promoters of 30% of all eukaryotic genes. The HAP complex consists of three subunits - HAP2, HAP3 and HAP5. In this paper, we report the biological function of the AtHAP3b gene that encodes one of the HAP3 subunits in Arabidopsis. Compared with wild-type plants, hap3b-1 and hap3b-2 mutants exhibited a delayed flowering time under long-day photoperiod conditions. Moreover, the transcription levels of FT were substantially lower in the mutants than in the wild-type plants. These results imply that AtHAP3b may function in the control of flowering time by regulating the expression of FT in Arabidopsis. In a subsequent study, AtHAP3b was found to be induced by osmotic stress. Under osmotic stress conditions, the hap3b- 1 and hap3b-2 mutants flowered considerably later than the wild-type plants. These results suggest that the AtHAP3b gene plays more important roles in the control of flowering under osmotic stress in Arabidopsis.

Sirtuins are NAD+-dependent deacetylase that are broadly conserved throughout bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. Themembers of sirtuins are important in regulating diverse biological pathways, including gene silencing, DNA repair, genomestability, longevity, metabolism, and cell physiology. Sirtuin from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (BaSrtN) is a particularlyinteresting bacterial Sir2 homologue. In this study, to further understand the function and mechanisms of this protein,BaSrtN was successfully expressed and purified using Ni-NTA affinity, Q anion-exchange, and gel-filtration chromatography. Purified BaSrtN was crystallized and diffracted to the resolution of 1.45 Å. The preliminary crystallographic analysissuggested that BaSrtN crystal belongs to the trigonal space group P31 or P32, with unit-cell parameters of a = b = 90.115and c = 86.306 Å. Size-exclusion chromatography suggested that BaSrtN prefer to exit as monomers in solution.

Chen, Tao,Dong, Bin,Chen, Kuangcai,Zhao, Fei,Cheng, Xiaodong,Ma, Changbei,Lee, Seungah,Zhang, Peng,Kang, Seong Ho,Ha, Ji Won,Xu, Weilin,Fang, Ning American Chemical Society 2017 Chemical reviews Vol.117 No.11
<P>Optical super-resolution imaging has gained momentum in investigations of heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions at the single-molecule level. Thanks to its exceptional spatial resolution and ability to monitor dynamic systems, much detailed information on single-molecule reaction/adsorption processes and single-particle catalytic processes has been revealed, including chemical kinetics and reaction dynamics; active-site distributions on single-particle surfaces; and size-, shape-, and facet-dependent catalytic activities of individual nanocatalysts. In this review, we provide an overview of recent advances in super-resolution chemical imaging of surface reactions.</P>

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the efficacy and safety of different doses of thalidomide (Thal) plus dexamethasone (Dex) as the initial therapy in elderly patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM). Methods: Clinical data of 28 elderly patients with newly diagnosed MM who underwent the TD regimen as the initial therapy were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to the maximal sustained dose of Thal: lower dose (group A) and higher dose (group B). The overall response rate (ORR), progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AES) were compared between the two groups. Results: A total of 28 patients were followed up with a median of 18 months. The ORR was 60.1%. The median response time and PFS were 2.0 and 17.0 months, respectively. The mean sustained dose of Thal in group B was significantly higher than group A (292.9 mg v 180.4 mg, P=0.01). There was no significantly difference in ORR (57.1% v 64.3%, P=1.00) and PFS (9.63months v 17.66 months, P=0.73) between groups A and B. During the follow up, only five patients died (<40%) and, therefore, median OS values were not available. It is estimated, however, that the mean survival time in the two groups was 35.6 and 33.4 months (P>0.05), respectively. All of the patients tolerated the treatment well. The incidence of AES in patients with a grading above 3 in group B was significantly higher than in group A (P=0.033). Conclusions: The TD regimen results in a high response rate and manageable AES as the initial therapy in elderly patients with MM. TD should be considered as the front line regimen for the treatment of elderly patients with MM in areas with financial constraints. The clinical response can be achieved at a low dose Thal with minimal toxicity.
