      • The Impact of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) in a Global Business Context

        Eungoo KANG(Eungoo KANG) 한국한류학회 2022 한류연구 Vol.1 No.2

Due in large part to the success of ‘Korean Wave’ (Hallyu) entertainment commodities, there was much discussion concerning the increasing recognition of Korean culture. With the government's help, South Korean pop culture has spread all over the globe, and Korean businesses have flourished thanks to their global competitiveness. The media in the surrounding areas were quick to catch on, and they all but declared the arrival of Hallyu. Despite a tragic and brutal history of invasions, wars, and dictatorships, South Korea has the 14th largest economy and is the 15th most significant country in terms of soft power. This is largely attributable to the country's leadership in technological and cultural revolutions. The enormous economic and political gains South Korea has experienced from its Hallyu phenomenon remain impressive and even threatening to other countries competing with it for cultural dominance. This is even though media figures in the country must constantly keep in mind new ways to maintain relevance and even enhance their favorability, as pop culture trends are transient and sometimes unpredictable. As South Korean culture spread to the West, Hallyu facilitated the export of several cultural artifacts, including classical music, theater, art, literature, and dance. The Baby Shark music video and song were both created by the Korean business Pink Fong.

The Feasible Linkage between Pay Dispersion and Job Performance in the Case of U.S. Retail Sales Workers

        Eungoo KANG,Hee-Joong HWANG 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.4

Purpose: This study seeks to address the omission through examining the manner in which demographic similarity affects the responses of employees in the retail sector towards horizontal pay dispersion. Through doing so the study will be effective in bolstering the recent efforts of more careful exploration of conditions. Research design, data, and methodology: Scant past studies are available to guide for practitioners in retail sector which compensation strategy might lead adequate job performance for retail sales workers. To suggest possible solution, the present authors used variables of pay dispersion and obtained 317 US retail sale workers in distribution channels to measure the association between pay dispersion and employee job performance. Results: The statistical findings indicated both first and second hypothesis could be acceptable with favorable Beta and T values, resulting high degree of pay dispersion leads a low level of job performance, while a low degree of pay dispersion can motivate retail sales workers to improve their performance. Conclusions: The findings of this study raises an argument that processes of social comparison work in a more vigorous manner. This is thus a representation of the propensity of a retail sales worker to voluntarily resign from an organization when dispersion rates are higher.

      • Conflicts of Interest in the Research Publication Process-A Case Study Approach

        Eungoo KANG,Hee-Joong HWANG 한국연구윤리학회 2022 연구윤리 Vol.3 No.1

Purpose: A conflict of interest is defined broadly as a scenario in which one’s responsibilities and self-interest collide in a manner that has a significant probability of corrupting one s discernments, motivations, actions, desires, values, and judgments. This study aims to investigate various cases of conflict of interest. Research design, data and methodology: Our study used the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) to identify resources. The eligibility of selected prior studies thoroughly was investigated whether they are suitable for the topic of present study. Finally, we collected total 15 previous studies published between 2000 and 2021. Results: Research findings indicate that there are three main cases that might cause a conflict of interest and mandated research ethics education might provide researchers with the tools to identify and battle the temptations and biases provided by conflicts of interest. Researchers could likely be better prepared for conflicts of interest if they investigated the moral difficulties associated with them in advance. Conclusions: Researchers might evade deliberate or unconscious detriment of duties, and also objectivity loss because of the siren song of self-interest by escaping situations whereby they may be tempted to shirk their responsibilities, not to remark the hassles of unveiling conflicts.

      • Ethical Conducts in Qualitative Research Methodology :Participant Observation and Interview Process

        Eungoo KANG,Hee-Joong HWANG 한국유통과학회 2021 연구윤리 Vol.2 No.2

Purpose: Ethical behaviors become more salient when researchers utilize face-to-face interviews and observation with vulnerable groups or communities, which may be unable to express their emotions during the sessions. The present research aims to investigate ethical behaviors while conducting research have resonance due to the deep nature of observation and interview data collection methods. Research design, data and methodology: The present research obtained non-numeric (Textual) data based on prior literature review to investigate Ethical Conducts in Qualitative Research. Non-numeric data differs from numeric data in how the data is collected, analyzed and presented. It is important to formulate written questions and adopt them what the method claims for the researcher to understand the studied phenomenon. Results: Our findings show that while conducting qualitative research, researchers must adhere to the following ethical conducts; upholding informed consent, confidentiality and privacy, adhering to beneficence s principle, practicing honesty and integrity. Each ethical conduct is discoursed in detail to realize more information on how it impacts the researcher and research participants. Conclusions: The current authors concludes that five ethical conducts are important for realizing extensive and rich information during qualitative research and may be exploited in implementing research policies for researchers utilizing observation and interviews methods of data collection.

Quantitative Analysis: Team management for Better Employee Performance in the US Retail Supply Chain

        Eungoo Kang,Hee-Joong Hwang 한국유통과학회 2021 유통과학연구 Vol.19 No.7

Purpose: Former research has argued that organizations in distribution channels face several issues to make a better team-based system. The purpose of the present research is to measure between employee’s job performance and three major issues which disturb a solid team system. Research design, data and methodology: Scant past studies are available to guide for team practitioners which elements should be eliminated to improve team performance. To achieve this goal, the present authors obtained 267 US workers in distribution channels and conducted ANOVA test to measure the relationship between three team issues (Free-rider, Trust, and Communication) and job performance. Results: Our statistical findings clearly suggests that there was a statistically recognizable difference at the significance level of probability between the mean value of employees’ job performance and three major issues, showing the high degree of job performance can be occurred by eliminating three major team issues. Conclusions: Therefore, the present research concludes that it is necessary that team-based management in the supply chain should focus on removing free-rider issues and also adopt open communication lines to overcome team-building challenges due to communication. Above all else, the ability to increase trust can be enhanced via task delegation and more team members engagement.
