Traditional medicinal polyprescriptions were formulated based upon the conditions of the patients and the medicinal material properties. The fundamental theory which formulate traditional medicinal polyprescriptions lies in the relationships of the Four Regular Component; Monarch(君藥), Minster(臣藥), Assistant(佐藥), Laborer(使藥). We investigated the fundamental formulation theory of the prescription by experimenting the effect on the absorption of glycyrrhizin(GL) contained in Glycyrrhizae Radix(GR) in rat small intestines in situ and the metabolism of GL by intestinal bacteria and the effects of herbal drug conbinations on the metabolism of GL. The absorption rate of GLL was only 19.9% at 1hr after incubation, but the GR was 7.3%. The low absorption rate was increased through a combination with Cinnamomi Cortex (CC), Paeoniae Radix (PR) and Holen (HO) with GR. Among them, CC was best, followed by PR and HO. However, Ginseng Radix (GiR) was not effective. Human intestinal bacteria was cultured in GAM containting GIR, CC, PR or HO with GR and assayed for the metabolite, glycyrrheticacid (GA) of GL. CC and GIR induced the biotransformation of GL to GA, but PR and HO inhibited it. By using rat intestinal bacteria, CC and GIR induced the biotransformation of GL of GR to GA, but PR and HO inhibited it.

ABSTRACTBackground:
Decreased hemoglobin levels increase the risk of developing dementia among the elderly. However, the underlying mechanisms that link decreased hemoglobin levels to incident dementia still remain unclear, possibly due to the fact that few studies have reported on the relationship between low hemoglobin levels and neuroimaging markers. We, therefore, investigated the relationships between decreased hemoglobin levels, cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD), and cortical atrophy in cognitively healthy women and men.
Methods:
Cognitively normal women (n = 1,022) and men (n = 1,018) who underwent medical check-ups and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were enrolled at a health promotion center. We measured hemoglobin levels, white matter hyperintensities (WMH) scales, lacunes, and microbleeds. Cortical thickness was automatically measured using surface based methods. Multivariate regression analyses were performed after controlling for possible confounders.
Results:
Decreased hemoglobin levels were not associated with the presence of WMH, lacunes, or microbleeds in women and men. Among women, decreased hemoglobin levels were associated with decreased cortical thickness in the frontal (Estimates, 95% confidence interval, −0.007, (−0.013, −0.001)), temporal (−0.010, (−0.018, −0.002)), parietal (−0.009, (−0.015, −0.003)), and occipital regions (−0.011, (−0.019, −0.003)). Among men, however, no associations were observed between hemoglobin levels and cortical thickness.
Conclusion:
Our findings suggested that decreased hemoglobin levels affected cortical atrophy, but not increased CSVD, among women, although the association is modest. Given the paucity of modifiable risk factors for age-related cognitive decline, our results have important public health implications.

Absorption of carbon dioxide was carried out in a semi‐batch stirred tank of glycidyl methacrylate solution with tetrabutylammonium bromide as a catalyst at 101.3 kPa. The measured rate of absorption of carbon dioxide was used to obtain the reaction kinetics by the mass transfer mechanism accompanied by the chemical reaction, which was consisted of two elementary reactions. An empirical correlation formula between the reaction rate constants and the solubility parameters of the solvents, such as toluene, N ‐methyl‐2‐pirrolidinone, and dimethyl sulfoxide, was presented.

SiC Epitaxial Layers Grown by Sublimation Method and their Electrical Properties
Park, Chi Kwon,Lee, Gi Sub,Lee, Ju Young,Kyun, Myung Ok,Lee, Won Jae,Shin, Byoung Chul,Nishino, Shigehiro Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Materials science forum Vol.556 No.-

A sublimation epitaxial method, referred to as the Closed Space Technique (CST) was adopted to produce thick SiC epitaxial layers for power device applications. In this study, we aimed to systematically investigate surface morphologies and electrical properties of SiC epitaxial layers grown with varying a SiC/Al ratio in a SiC source powder during the sublimation growth using the CST method. It was confirmed that the acceptor concentration of epitaxial layer was continuously decreased with increasing the SiC/Al ratio. The blue light emission was successfully observed on a PN diode structure fabricated with the p-type SiC epitaxial layer. Furthermore, 4H-SiC MESFETs having a micron-gate length were fabricated using a lithography process and their current-voltage performances were characterized.

Temperature-dependent electrical transport measurements of cylindrical shaped gate-all-around silicon nanowire p-channel MOSFET were performed. At 4.2 K, they show current oscillations, which can be analyzed by single hole tunneling originated from nanowire quantum dots. In addition to this single hole tunneling, one device exhibited strong current peaks, surviving even at room temperature. The separations between these current peaks corresponded to the energy of 25 and 26 meV. These values were consistent with the sum of the bound-state energy spacing and the charging energy of a single boron atom. The radius calculated from the obtained single-atom charging energy was also comparable to the light-hole Bohr radius.
