      • Crocin 첨가 결핵균 배지상의 색소형성에 의한 비정형 Mycobacteria 의 분류

        On the basis of pigment production and growth rate on L-J medium containing crocin, differentiation of opportunist mycobacteria belonging to photochromogens, scotochromogens, nonchromogens and rapid grower has been investigated. Among photochromgens, positive pigmentation of M. kansasii was differentiated from negative strain of M. marinum. Scotochromogen M. aquae was positive whereas M. scrofulaceum was negative. Rapid grower M. fortuitum was positive at 3 days test whereas M. smegmatis was negative. Subdivision of opportunist mycobacteria into four groups on the basis of growth rate ad pigment production on L J medium containing gardenia extraction appeared to be a valuable adjunct to the Runyon's classification for the rapid presumptive identification of opportunist mycobacteria of different clinical significance.

        Influence of CrCl3 in Sphene-Pink Pigments

        In high temperature ceramic glazes, a stable range of pink-red colors producing Cr2O3-SnO2-CaO-SiO2 pigments are factored byCassiterite and Malayaite relationship with Cr2O3. The experiment described the effect of CrCl3 by adding H3BO3 as a mineralizer toincrease the formation of Malayaite crystal, substituting CrCl3 instead of Cr2O3 in pigment as a chromophore. Synthesized pigmentswere analyzed by XRD, FT-IR, Raman Spectroscop, UV and UV-vis. The result shows the diferences in amount of crystal phasesand oxidation state of Cr ion, which causes the color change. The melting point of CrCl3 is lower than Cr2O3 which act as a mineralizerand makes the pigment synthesized in lower temperature at 1200oC. Holding 3 h firing at 900oC where the synthesize forms showsbetter effect of Malayaite crystal phases and increasing engaged effect of CrCl3 Cr2O3.

        초오약침의 단회 및 4주 반복 투여 독성에 관한 실험적 연구

        Objectives : This study was performed to examine the toxicity of Aconitum ciliare Decaisne pharmacopuncture(ADP). Methods : The toxicity was evaluated for lethal dose for 50 percent kill(LD50), single dose and repeated dose for 4 weeks. Toxic symptoms, weight measurement, hematological test, blood biochemical test, visual examination and weight measurement of major organs and histopathological test were observed for 4 weeks. Dose of 300, 600, 1,200, 2,400, 3,600, 4,800, 6,000, 7,200 mg/kg in the LD50 experiment, 300, 600, 1,200 mg/kg/day in the single experiment, 150, 300, 600 mg/kg/day in 4 weeks experiments were injected into BALB/c mice. The ADP was injected into ST36 of the right leg. Normal saline solution of same volume was used for control group. In 24 hours after the last treatment, blood samples were taken after anesthesia by inhalation of ethyl ether. After that, the BALB/c mice were euthanized. Their heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and reproductive organs were removed and weighed. Histopathological evaluation was also performed. Results : ADP’s LD50 was measured at 6,000 mg/kg. In both single and repeated dose toxicity test, no BALB/c mouse died during the experiments. ADP treatment for 4 weeks did not show any significant changes in toxic symptoms, weight measurement, hematological test, blood biochemical test, visual examination and weight measurement of major organs and histopathological test. Conclusions : As a result, ADP’s LD50 was 6,000 mg/kg and repeated dose at a concentration of 600 mg/kg or less is considered to be not harmful for clinical treatment.

        노인의 기억은 정말로 떨어지는가?

        In order to test the validity of memory & aging theory-Capacity Decline Theory, Selective Decline Theory, Compensatory Interaction Theory- the author examined memory function between age grade groups by Korean version of Memory Assessment Scales(K-MAS). The total number of subjects were 428, 20's 70, 30's 68. 40's 94, 50's 92. 60's 50, 70's 40, 80's 14. On the cross-sectional study, as the age increased, Memory Quotient(MQ) decreased consistently. In comparison with the performance of 20's, 15 MQ was decreased in 40's, 10 MQ was decreased in 60's again, and finally, 10 MQ was decreased in 80's again. And those differences appeared in some sub tests, not in all sub tests. But in that case of matching education level, another result showed. That is, [10 years and more education] elderly group did not show significant differences than the same education level of 40's and 50' group, and also, showed better performance than [9 years and less education] 40's group. Especially, [13 years and more education] elderly group even did not show significant differences than [9 years and less] 20-30' group, and moreover, did not show differences than [12 years education] 20-30's group in verbal memory scale. Although all three theories were proved validatory, this result lays emphasis on that Compensatory-interaction theory was validated empirically, thus it is anticipated that ‘high reserve’ old adult would not show memory dysfunction as regarded generally. Finally, explanations for various memory dysfunctioncauses in old adults, that can not counterbalanced by mental faculties, were presented, and the importance of consistent intellectual stimulation was stressed.

        A Clinical Analysis of Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss Cases

        Background and Objectives: High-dose systemic steroid therapy is the mainstay treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). Recovery rates from SSNHL range are about 47-63% and are influenced by various prognostic factors. To evaluate the prognostic value of specific clinical parameters, we reviewed 289 cases by clinical and statistical analysis. Subjects and Methods: This study included 289 patients with SSNHL who visited the Department of Otolaryngology at Soonchunhyang University Hospital from January 2005 to December 2012. The cases were reviewed retrospectively based on clinical charts. Hearing improvement was evaluated in relation to pure-tone audiogram results, duration between SSNHL onset and time of initial treatment, seasonal incidence, dizziness, patient age, degree of hearing loss, patterns of initial pure-tone audiogram and presence of underlying disease. Results: Hearing improvement was observed in 196 of 289 (67.8%) patients; such improvement began within 7 days in most patients, followed by rapid hearing recovery. Cases that failed to show improvement within 14 days were unlikely to achieve hearing recovery. The more severe the hearing loss during the early stage, the lower the hearing recovery rates. Patients aged less than 60 years appear to have better prognosis of hearing improvement compared to those who are over 60 years. Conclusions: Important prognostic factors for recovery in patients with SSNHL include the time of initiating treatment after symptom onset, the degree of early-stage hearing loss, and the age of the affected patient.

      • P-108 : Preparation and characterization TiO2-NF composite membrane and the effect of photocatalytic degradation

        TiO-NF composite membrane has some unique characteristics such as high water flux, semiconducting properties, photocatalysis and chemical resistances over other membranes. Most of photocatalyst used as a pure powder form has the problems of withdrawl and light shield by particles. therefore the manufactured NF composite membrane can perform photocatalytic reaction and seperation simultaneously by means of TiO photocatalyst attached to NF composite membrane surface. In this work, TiO photocatalyst were added to Polyethersulfone(PES) when we made UF membranes as the substrates of TiO-NF composite membrane. TiO-NF composite membranes were modified by different manufacturing conditions and varying the ratio of TiO. We`ve been studying the performance for photocatalytic decomposition under UV light for the purpose of a high water flux and the rejection of bivalent anion salt. The characterization of membranes were appiled on conductivity, FT-IR, NMR, XRD, SEM and so on.

        Synthesis of Sphene-pink Pigment under Various Firing Conditions

        The present research was performed to determine the optimal firing condition and holding time for malayaite crystal, which is responsible for the stable pink-red coloration in glaze at high temperatures, using CrCl3 as chromophore for the synthesis of Cr2O3-SnO2-CaO-SiO2 system pigments. The malayaite crystal was influenced by the raw materials used for synthesis, firing temperature, and holding time. Thus there are differences in the crystal phase and in the coloration according to the condition of synthesis. When CrCl3 was used as chromophore, the pigment could be synthesized at lower temperatures, because CrCl3 melts at 1150℃, which is much lower than the temperature at which Cr2O3 melts (higher than 2435oC). And the employed Cr ion showed a change in oxidation state. When a mineralizer was used to improve the employment of malayaite and the Cr ion, and the low temperature was maintained at which the malayaite crystal is produced, the production of malayaite crystal was promoted and the employment of chromophore was also promoted in the oxidation state of Cr (Ⅳ). The results of the experiment showed that the optimal firing condition was 18 h of holding time at 800℃, using CrCl3 as chromophore, followed by 2 h at the raised temperature of 1150℃. The change in coloration of the Cr (Ⅳ) employed by malayaite showed a very rich color of red. Thus it was possible to effectively synthesize sphene-pink pigments with more red tint at a low temperature.
