HPLC is a useful method for identifying amygdalin which has been the subject of considering controversy for cancer remedy. The resolution of amygalin was satisfactory and the separation of amygdalin was accomplished using carbohydrate analysis column, mobile phase of acetonitrile: H₂O (90 : 10), and UV detector. Quantitative analysis showed that amygdalin contents of Prunus tomentosa, P. serrulata, and P. ishidoyana(Amygdalaceae) were 2.18, 2.41, and 2.26%, respectively. It was suggested that the seed of Prunus species was worth useful resource of amygdalin.

In order to study on the amygdalin of seed of Prunus tomentosa Thunberg, extraction of amygdalin was conducted as follows. Petroleum ether were added to powderd seed in order to remove oil substances. After filteration, hot ethonol were added to the filteration residue. After filteration again, the filterate was cooling in room temperature, and the crude crystals of amygdalin were precipitated, and recrystallized from dilute ethanol. This crystals were identified to amygdalin by means of mp(213-215℃), TLC(Rf 0.28), NMR, IR, UV spectrum. Quantitative analysis by spectrophotometry showed that the seed of Prunus tomentosa Thunberg contains 1.065% amygdalin. In other reports, we were founded that Prunus ansu contains 3% amygdalin and Prunus persica cOntains 1.5% amygdalin. As the result of this experiment, it was suggested that the seed of Prunus tomentosa was worth while useful resource of Amygdalin.
