Purpose: The study was conducted to develop the Nursing Practice Capacity scale for evaluating achievement of education objectives among students in nursing school. Methods: This was a methodological study. The scale development process included generation of initial items, verification of content validity, selections of secondary items, preliminary study, and extraction of final items. The participants were five graduates 1 to 4 years after graduation (for the preliminary study) and 125 graduates 1 to 4 years after graduation from the nursing school at A University, South Korea. Item analysis, criterion validity, and internal consistency were used to analyze the data. Results: Twenty-six items were selected for the final scale. The scores on the scale were significantly correlated with the Nursing Competency Scale(r=.62, p<.001) and Nursing Performance Scale(r=.63, p<.001). Chronbach's alpha coefficient for the 26 items was .87. Conclusion: The Nursing Practice Capacity scale for evaluating achievement of nursing education objectives has good validity and reliability. The measurement scale can be useful for evaluating the nursing practice capacity of nurses as well as measuring the extent to which graduates have achieved the established education objectives in the education fields.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the related factors of insight, self-esteem, and coping skills and the relationships among them in patients with alcohol addiction. Methods: The participants enrolled in this study were 106 patients from two alcohol treatment hospitals in Gyeonggi Province. Data were collected from May, 12 to 20, 2010 using self-report questionnaires. The instruments were the Hanil Alcohol Insight Scale, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, and the Ways of Coping Checklist. Data were analyzed using the SPSS-Win 12.0 program. Results: Among the participants, 24.5% had poor insight, 45.3% fair insight, and 30.2% good insight. Self-esteem of participants living with family (F=3.60, p<.001) and of those with better academic backgrounds (F=3.39, p=.021) were higher than those of the other groups. Also, self-esteem showed a positive relation with active coping (r=.34, p<.001). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the mental health promotion program based on Positive Psychology for adolescents with problem behavior. Methods: The study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Eligible participants were first grade students in two high schools in K Province. The inclusion criteria for the study were those with scores in the upper 15% on the Korean Youth Self-Report. A total of 74 participants were assigned to an 8-session program (n=38) or to a control (n=36) group. The outcome variables were psychological well-being, depression, and self-esteem. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in demographic variables or outcome variables, except self-esteem, between the two groups at the baseline. The experimental group had higher mean scores on psychological well-being and self-esteem and a lower mean score on depression. There were significant differences in psychological well-being (t=3.45, p=.001), self-esteem (F=5.45, p=.022), and depression (t=-2.80, p=.007) between the two groups. Conclusion: The mental health promotion program based on Positive Psychology was effective in decreasing depression as well as improving psychological well-being and self-esteem for adolescents with problem behavior. This study contributes to suggesting a framework for promoting mental health for high school students with problem behavior.
