The intluence of double pilot on combustion noise, soot, NOx and BSFC has been confirmed on a 2.0L HSDI diesel engine equipped with a common rail fuel injection system. By examining the exhausted gases of NEDC emission cycle on chassis roller test and by measuring of part load test on engine lest bed, extremely higher values of NOx and soot show on acceleration range and EUDC area of NEDC cycle. Optimal multiple injections strategy in viewpoint of the combustion noise and soot reduction was proposed, by inspecting post2 timing and quantity swing Multiple injections can be utilized to reduce soot and combustion noise without deteriorating fuel economy and NOx.
연료분무 및 연소 1 : 연료 온도가 디젤 인젝터의 유량 및 분무 발달 과정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The characteristics of fuel quantity, injection rate and macro spray pattern including flame development was investigated under various diesel fuel temperature. Real injection quantity showed decreasing tendency despite of the same signal of start of injection and injection duration as the fuel temperature decreased. Injection rate measurement verified that the real start of injection was delayed and the real injection duration was shortened with lower fuel temperature condition, which explains the reason why injection quantity decreased. Spray tip penetration with lower fuel temperature was longer than that with higher fuel temperature due to deteriorated atomization. From the combustion visualization, it was revealed that irregular flame pattern from each injector hole was shown with low flame intensity with low fuel temperature condition. To overcome combustion process under cold temperature condition, multiple injection strategy was applied with single and double pilot injections. Overall heat release rate was increased with multiple injection strategy with higher luminosity intensity. However, more careful application with multiple injections is need under cold ambient condition due to the concern of high HC emission. More results related with fuel temperature will be presented further during the conference.

ECU control parameters were optimized on engine test bench to improve the fuel economy of passenger diesel vehicle. Optimization was performed with model based optimization technique of MATLAB<SUP>®</SUP>. The vehicle NEDC test result with newly optimized ECU dataset showed that the reduction amount of fuel consumption, NOx, and PM were 3.4%, 15%, and 23% respectively. NEDC cycle optimization strategy was setup according to engine load conditions.
