This study was designed to examine the clincotherapeutic effect of natural honeybee (Apis mellifera) venom in sows with mastitis, metritis and agalactia (MMA) syndrome. Sows with MMA syndrome after parturition were assigned to treated and nontreated control groups. In treated group, 22 sows were bee acupunctured once a day for 3 consecutive days. Acupuncture points of Jiao-chao (GV-1, at the indentation between the base of tail and the anus), Yang-ming (ST-18, outside at the base of teat) and Hai-men (ST-25, about 1 cm lateral to the umbilicus) were stung by the natural honeybees. In control group, 20 sows were intramuscularly injected with a standard dosage of penicillin G (400,000 IU/kg of body weight) once a day for 3 consecutive days. At post-treatment, 85.0% of control sows and 90.9% of sows in treated group recovered from MMA syndrome. Bee acupuncture therapy didn't show any side effects such as allergy, intoxication, hemorrhage, or infection. It might be concluded that apitherapy was effective in controlling of sows with MMA syndrome.
Fusobacterium nucleatum의 적혈구응집 및 세균간 응집반응에 관한 연구
최화석,김각균,최선진 대한구강생물학회 1986 International Journal of Oral Biology Vol.10 No.1
The investigation was carried out to examine the ability of Fusobacterium nucleatum to hemagglutinate human erythrocytes and to aggregate with certain gram positive bacteria. Both whole becterial cells and outer membrane preparations of F. nucleatum were utilized. The effects of human serum, saliva as well as heating of the whole cells on both hemagglutination and bacterial aggregation were also studied. F. nucleatum whole cells had a fairly high hemagglutinating titer, and the heat-treated cells showed either a complete loss or a decrease of the titer depending on the trmperature employed. Normal human saliva, but not serum inhibited the hemagglutination activity to a certain degree. The outer membrane preparations from F.nucleatum failed to show any ability of hemagglutination. Whole cells of F. nucleatum showed the ability to aggregate with both Actinomyces viscosus and streptococcus sanguis, but the outer membrane extracts failed to do so. Neither the normal human saliva nor serum exerted any effect on the bacterial aggregation. The slab SDS-PAGE disc electrophoresis of the material extracted from F. nucleatum outer membrane revealed 4 major protein bands of molecular weight 58,000, 49,000, 40,000, and 36,000 dalton.
Establishment of Embryonic Stem Cells Derived from Rabbit Embryos
강회성,임경순,최화석,신영수,진동일 한국가축번식학회 2001 Reproductive & developmental biology Vol.25 No.3
To establish rabbit Embryonic Stem (ES) cells, rabbit one-cell embryos were collected and cultured in vitro to blastocysts. Blastocysts were co-cultured with mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEF), rabbit embryonic fibroblasts (REF) or STO cells expressing LIF (SNL). Although rabbit ES cells were isolated with low efficiencies, total 8 ES cell lines were kept in vitro with normal colony shape. The MEF was the best feeder for rabbit ES cell isolation in regard to growth rate and undifferentiated morphology. The doubling time of rabbit ES cells in MEF was about 84 hours and the undifferentiated morphology was maintained following passing and freezing processes. These rabbit ES cells were differentiated into embryoid body following the culture in the uncoated dishes, indicating that they were undifferentiated stem cells.
