The world emission regulations for motorcycle become increasingly strict recently. Considering both performance and product costs, the use of catalytic aftertreatment to reduce harmful gases in the exhaust streams of 2-stroke small engine is becoming widespread. The primary exhaust gas pollutants are carbon monoxide(CO) and hydrocarbons(HC) for vehicles equipped with 2-stroke engine. Several technology have been investigated to reduce the emissions of 2-stroke motorcycle engines, for example, advanced fuel metering system, improved scavenging characteristic.combustion chamber modification, exhaust gas aftertreatment, etc, <br/> Aftertreatment technology is a cost effective method specially for small 2-stroke motorcycle engine. Catalysts can reduce not only emissions, but also power output, if it has any obstruction to the flow of exhaust gas.<br/> Within this study. a 90cc small 2-stroke engine was used with different types of catalysts. Comparison tests were performed between a hot tube catalyst and a hot tube plus flex coat catalyst. This result demonstrates the effects from both restriction and inside temperature caused by catalysts.

In order to comply new legislation, combustion optimization and aftertreatment methods have been used by many researchers for the development of motorcycle. However, aftertreatment method is very popular for the emission reduction in small engines, because product costs in case of combustion optimization method should be high. . CNG engine, well favored as a excellent engine fuel, can be operated in bi-fuel, dual fuel, and single fuel dedicated CNG modes. Having several merits in the viewpoints of the wide driving range due to the running possibility by using only diesel fuel, and no major modification on the engine, mechanical system is developed for the conversion of 3.5L 4 cylinder diesel engine installed in 2.5 ton truck. <br/> In this study, we have tested the characteristics of power, fuel consumption, and emission with both prototype engine and vehicle.<br/>

By utilizing CNG(compressed natural gas) as the alternative fuel to a diesel engine, it is certainly possible to reduce the particulates, soot and NOx from diesel emissions.<br/> CNG-diesel dual fuel engine is more effective and adquate to decrease the vehicle emission specially in heavy urban traffic, because it has several merits in the view points of easy conversion, fuel economy, abundant energy source, and convenient driving at the area where fuel refilling system is deficient.<br/> In this study, we have developed 2 kinds of dual fuel supply system for natural gas and diesel, as mechanical mixer type and semi electronic type. The performance evaluation and characteristics have been compared each other.<br/>
