In normal conditions and starvation, the influence of the plasma-free fatty acid concentration on blood, liver and muscle carnitine contents with a intravenously and oral administered fat load was studied. In normal rabbits, intralipid containing 10% soy bean oil emulsion increases the levels of plasma-free fatty acid, plasma triglyceride, liver and muscle carnitine, but decreases the levels of blood and urinary carnitine, othe metabolite levels were charged ofter intralipid was administered. It was caused by the enhanced oxidation of increased free fatty acid In strarved rabbits, phsma-free fatty acid, acetoacetate and hydroxybutyrats levels were increased, while triglyceride, lactate and pyruvate levels were decresed. It resulted from the increases of fat decomposition, the fatty acid level and fatty acid oxidaion Intralipid administration increases plasma-free fatty acid, tr iglyce ride, liver and muscle carnitine acetoacetate and pyruvate levels but blood and urinary carnitine, and lactate and pyruvate levels were decreased. It resulted from the enhancement of fat synthesis from increased plasma-free fatty acid.
