A decrease in the ability to maintain static and dynamic balance after stroke could be related to the inability to select reliable sensory information in producing relative motor action needed to maintain postural stability. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two different types of surface conditions on the balancing ability of subjects with stroke. Eighteen hemiparetic subjects were assigned to an experimental and control group participating in a six-week rehabilitative therapeutic exercise program focusing on balance and mobility. Exercises were performed 3 to 5 times per week in a stable surface condition by the control group, and in an unstable surface condition by the experimental group. Pre- and post test assessments involved the measurement of the static balance and dynamic balance, respectively by 7-item Berg Balance Scale-3P and by Pro-3 Balance System. Results showed that under the unstable surface condition, static balance in the experimental group showed more improvement than that of the control group.(Statistically, not very significant.) All the aspects of dynamic balance and mediolateral sway(balance) improved significantly than those of the control group. However, there were no significant differences between two groups. Overall, it can be concluded that under the unstable surface condition, the rehabilitative therapeutic exercise programs are effective in improving the dynamic balance of stroke subjects. The results suggest that the adaptation of the unstable surface in the rehabilitative therapeutic exercises could be effective for the patients with hemiplegia in balance. Further studies are needed to confirm the effectiveness of the unstable surface on improving balance and postural stability of hemiplegics.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to identify effects of aerobic exercise on cardiovascular exercise capacity in patients underwent coronary artery bypass graft. The subjects of this study were patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft and were referred of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation program immediately after discharge, divided into the experiment group who participated in exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation program(n=21) and the control group who did not(n=21). The experiment period was between the day of the first exercise loading test since the patients were referred to the cardiac rehabilitation program after discharge and the time after eight-week exercise. During the experiment period, subjects were educated consistent management of risk fact and counseling of the exercise, pulmonary ventilation gas test, graded exercise test, and echocardiography before and after the experiment period, in order to analyze changed heart rate, changes in Rate Pressure Product and Respiratory Exchang Ratio, and cardiopulmonary exercise ability after the experiment. In conclusion, the eight-week, exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation program on cardiovascular exercise capacity in patients underwent coronary artery bypass graft after discharge was significantly effective on reduction in rest heart rate, sub- Rate Pressure Product and sub-Respiratory Exchang Ratio, and enhancement in cardiopulmonary exercise ability
심부전 환자의 신체적 수행 능력에 따른 도구적 일상생활 수준과 인지 수준의 연관성

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the level of physical functional ability in patients with heart failure and to suggest the correlation between cognitive level and instrumental daily activity level with physical function ability. Methods: The study included individuals who were diagnosed with heart failure and those who were not diagnosed with stroke. Among 66 patients who were tested for weakness at S Hospital located in Gyeonggi-do from June 2021 to April 2022, data from 56 patients were selected and analyzed. Results: In the correlation between MMSE-K and SPPB, balance (r = .381, p < .01), gait speed (r = .368, p < .01), chair stand (r = .245, p >.05), and total score (r = .387, p < .01) showed a positive correlation except for the chair stand. In the correlation between K-IADL and SPPB, balance (r = −.532, p < .01), gait speed (r = −.644, p < .01), chair stand (r = −.391, p < .01), and total score (r = −.600, p < .01) showed a negative correlation. The higher the simple physical function, the higher the cognitive level and the lower the level of need for help in the level of instrumental daily activities. Conclusion: A correlation was found between the level of physical function and the level of cognitive and instrumental daily activities in patients with heart failure; thus, its evaluation is essential.
