The heat transfer process in the cylinder drum for paper drying consists of the thermal resistances by condensate thickness, thickness of shell, and the contact resistance between cylinder and canvas. The most thermal resistance in conventional cylinder drum is generated by condensate, which is specially increased by the increase of revolution per minute (RPM). In this paper, the condensate removal in the cylinder drum, w hich multi-flow channel is attached to the inside surface of cylinder, was analyzed. The maximum RPM of cylinder drum was exam ined for removing the condensate in multi-flow channel by steam pressure without siphon. Steam pressure, channel height, RPM, gap between cover plate and separate plate of steam and condensate and centrifugal force in channel and gap were examined as variables.

In this study, the theoretical analysis on the characteristics of sludge drying was performed in the state of exhaust recirculation, which hot air for drying is in the superheated steam condition in rotary drum dryer. The diameter and length of drum was predicted by overall heat transfer coefficient and the fuel consumption, recirculation quantity of exhaust gas was estimated by exhaust gas temperature. And the absolute humidity of hot gas were examined according to the hot gas temperature and exhaust gas temperature.

The heat transfer process from steam to web through the cylinder drum consists of the thermal resistance by condensate thickness, thickness of shell, and the contact resistance between cylinder and web. The most thermal resistance in conventional cylinder drum dryer is generated by condensate, which is increased by the increase on revolution per minute(RPM). Therefore, the increase of RPM for the production enhancement results in the more thermal resistance, and eventually RPM is restricted. In this study, the theoretical analysis on the characteristics of heat transfer in cylinder drum for paper dryer was performed in the stationary state of steam in drum. The overall heat transfer coefficient, steam quantity and heat transfer quantity were predicted by diameter and length of drum, condensate thickness, revolution per minute and steam temperature for experimental apparatus design.
