하드웨어 공유 극대화에 의한 GF($2^8$) Reed-Solomon Decoder의 VLSI설계

본 논문에서는 변형된 유클리드(Modified Euclid) 알고리즘을 이용한 {{{{ { GF}_{ } }}}}(2\sup 8\)의 Reed-Solomon(RS) 복호기에 대하여 VLSI로 설계하였다. 면적의 관점에서 효율적인 설계를 위하여 레지스터와 유클리드 ALU를 최대로 공유하는 여러 가지의 새로운 구조를 제안하였다. 에러 위치 다양식 (σ(χ))과 에러 평가 다항식 (ω(χ))을 계산하기 위하여 16개의 ALU 대신에 1개의 ALU를 사용하였으며, 이들 다항식의 계수를 저장하기 위한 레지스터를 24개 대신에 18개를 사용하였다. VHDL을 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 행하고 FLEX\sup TM\ FPGAF를 이용하여 구현을 행함으로써 제안한 구조에 대한 정확성을 검증하였으며 DVD(Digital Versatile Disc)시스템을 위하여(208,192,17) RS 부호와 (182,172,11) RS 부호에 대한 복호 기능을 갖는 RS 복호기를 0.6㎛의 CMOS TLM Compass\sup TM 라이브러리를 사용하여 게이트 숫자가 약 17,000 이고, 코어 면적이 2.299×2.284(5.25㎟)인 VLSI로 설계함으로써 효용성을 검증하였다. 한편, 설계한 칩은20MHz로 동작함을 확인하여 DVD의 요구조건인 3.74MHz를 만족함을 확인하였다. This paper describes a VLSI design of Reed-Solomon(RS) decoder using the modified Euclid algorithm, with the main theme focused on the $\textit{GF}(2^8)$. To get area-efficient design, a number of new architectures have been devised with maximal register and Euclidean ALU unit sharing. One ALU is shared to replace 18 ALUs which computes an error locator polynomial and an error evaluation polynomial. Also, 18 registers are shared to replace 24 registers which stores coefficients of those polynomials. The validity and efficiency of the proposed architecture have been verified by simulation and by FLEX$^TM$ FPGA implementation in hardware description language VHDL. The proposed Reed-Solomon decoder, which has the capability of decoding RS(208,192,17) and RS(182,172,11) for Digital Versatile Disc(DVD), has been designed by using O.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS TLM Compass$^TM$ technology library, which contains totally 17k gates with a core area of 2.299$\times$2.284 (5.25$\textrm{mm}^2$). The chip can run at 20MHz while the DVD requirement is 3.74MHz.

During about 3 months of duration from October to December 1975, we have seen fifteen cases of pneumonia like disease with unknown etiology. The patients had suffered from abruptly started high fever with chill and generalized myalgia, then, succeeded by cough with bloody sputum, dyspnea and rapidly fell into shock state. They had peculiar diffuse infiltrative lesion on the chest x-ray film. The clinical course was very fast and terminated within 10 days of hospitalization. A clinical observation of the patient was performed and results were summarized as follows; 1) The patients came from several part of Chungnam, Chungbuk, Kyongbuk and Chonbuk province where located near to Daejeon city. 2) Majority of patient were middle aged and male patients were predominant as 12:3. 3) Major clinical symptoms were high fever with chill, generalized myalgia, cough, hemoptysis, dyspnea, shock, hypotension and hepatomegaly in order of frequency. 4) A noticeable laboratory data were anemia, neutrophilic leucocytosis and proteinuria in the begining and elevation of S-GOT and S-GPT value. The sputum examination revealed no significant result. 5) The x-ray chest study was most important diagnostic procedure of the disease. The findings include diffuse bilateral infiltrations which consist of fine granular, nodular, reticular appearance and partly intermixed. Few cases showed rosette shadow and air bronchogram. 6) Clinical course was very fast. Two cause were succumbed to a acute respiratory failure. Remaining 13 cases were recovered comeletely within 10 days of hospitalization. In recovered cases there were no residual symptoms and relapse. 7) Few cases were confused with Korean hemorrhage fever associated with pulmonary edema or hemorrhage because of epidemiological coincidene and some resemblance in symptoms.

Urine cultures were performed at intervals of three days to observe the deveolpment of bacteriuria during indwelling catheterization in 124 patients with various medical diseases who admitted at Department of Internal Medicine of Chungnam National University Hospital from October 1974 to October 1975. The results were as follow: 1) The cultures were positive in 79(63.7%) out of 124 rotients after 3 days, in 39(90.7%) out of 43 patients after 6 days, in 23(100%) out of 23 patients after 9 days and in 12(100%) out of 12 patients after 12 days of indwelling catheterization. 2) The microorgarnisms cultured form the patients, who had retained indwelling catheter for 3 days, were E. coli(55.7%), Klebsiella aerogenes(22.8%), Staphylccoccus aureus(5.1%), Pseudomonas(5.1%), Proteus(3.8%), Staphylccoccuss(2.5%) Streptococcus(2.5%), and Paracolon bacilli(2.5%) in order frequency. 3) Two out of 12 patients, who had retained indwelling catheter for 12 days, revealed persisting bacteriuria for more than 2 months. 4) Bacteriuria developed in 61.2% of the patients with antibiotic treatment from the third day of catheterization, and in 74.2% of patients without antibiotic treatment.
