The Ni-Al intermetallic compound that has the greatest potential to be commercialized shows the high ductility at room temperature with the addition of boron, but has extremely low ductility at high temperature and oxidation environment. On this research work, the changes of microstructure and compressive fracture properties were studied in ($NiAl+Ni_3Al$) two-phase alloys. The precipitation behavior of $Ni_3Al$ after solution treatment at $1300^\circC$ for 14hrs and aging treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ for 14hrs was varied with Al content in ($NiAl+Ni_3Al$) two-phase alloys. These microstructure could be modified dramatically by suitable heat treatments. Martensite or martensite plus $Ni_3Al$ microstructure was obtained upon oil quenching from $1300^\circC$. Aging of Martensite at $800^\circC$ resulted in the $Ni_3Al$ plus NiAl phase. The compressive fracture strength and compressive fracture strain were improved by the $Ni_3Al$ plus NiAl phase mixtures at room temperature and $1100^\circC$. Microcracks are observed mostly in the region of NiAl and the interface of $NiAl-Ni_3Al$ phase after compressive test at room temperature. In the case of high temperature compressive test, microcracks are formed in the region of $Ni_3Al$ phase.

The wear and oxidation resistance of two phase nickel aluminides was investigated. Wear tests of various heat-treated specimens at room temperature and at $500^{\circ}C$ were performed under no lubricant condition in air by using a ball-on-disk type tribotester. Isothermal oxidation tests were made at $1100^{\circ}C$ in air flowing at the rate of 70cc/min and at $1000^{\circ}C$ in air by using TGA. Experimental results from wear tests showed that nickel aluminide with a higher content of Al had an improved wear resistance at both temperatures. Also the examination of the wear tracks after wear test at both room temperature and $500^{\circ}C$ indicated that regardless of the alloy compositions the wear tracks of the two phase nickel aluminides showed an abrasive type wear The improved oxidation resistance observed in the Ni-34at%Al alloy could to be attributed to the microstructural difference between the aluminides. An accelerated oxidation along the thin layer of $Ni_3AL$ along the grain boundary observed in the microstructure of the Ni-32at%Al aluminide could be attributed to the poor oxidation resistance.

본 논문에서는 유니폼 위상마스크를 이용하여 긴 광섬유격자를 제작할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 짧은 유니폼 위상마스크 한 개를 이용하여, 유효굴절률이 일정하거나 선형적으로 변하는 여러개의 부광섬유격자(subgrating)를 직렬로 연속적으로 제작함으로써 긴 광섬유격자를 제작하는 방법이다. 길이가 25mm인 한 개의 유니폼격자를 사용하여 200mm이고, 반사율 95% 이상인 유니폼 공섬유격자를 제작하였으며, 길이가 250mm이며 대역폭과 분산보상기울기의 평균값이 0.5nm와 4.965ps/nm인 선형처프된 광섬유격자를 제작할 수 있었다. A new method for fabricating long fiber Bragg gratings(FBGs) using uniform phase mask is proposed. The proposed method is characterized by forming a number of subgratings sequentially in series and varying linearly the effective refractive index of each subgrating. The reflectivity of a 200mm long uniform FBG developed fabricated by the method is about 95%. Also, the bandwidth and dispersion slope of a 250mm long linear-chirped FBG developed here are ∼0.5nm and ∼4.965ps/nm respectively.

In this study, the wear resistance of the complex powder diffusion treated KS STD 61 has been investigatived. KS STD 61 tool steel was pretreated in quenching and tempering processes to obtain the tempered martensitic microstructure. The samples were packed with complex powder in steel pot($\Phi$90x60mm) and heated in a box furnace. the complex powder diffusion treatment are carried out at $540^{\circ}C$, $520^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$ for 40min, 1.5hr and 2.5hr. The microstructure, microhardness, wear resistance, and coating layer thickness of the complex powder diffusion treated samples were investigation. The weight loss of as heat treated sample was 0.4mg and that of the complex powder treated at $540^{\circ}C$ for 2.5hr was 0.17mg. These result means that the wear resistance of tool steels can be easily improved by the powder diffusion process at conventional tempering treatment temperature.

The failed tube received for this study has been used for approximately 10 year at $330^{\circ}C$ in a steam production boiler tube was fractured in the transversed direction to tube length, and fracture mode was typically intergranulas type without the plastic deformation. The fracture surface was covered by the oxide scale formed from the intermal high pressure steam at high temperature. The microstructure was not nearly thermal-degraded during the service. From this result, we can conclude that the oxide film was proferentialy formed into the grainboundary and this grainboundary oxide film was brittle-fractured by the thermal stress in the longitudinal direction to the tube brittle intergranular fracture mode.
