Although pesticides have increased crop production and controlled disease, they have produced a number of adverse health effects. Pesticides have potential human toxicity and a variety of groups, such as farmers or industrial workers, as well as the general population, are exposed to pesticides. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to provide an overview of pesticide exposure and health through a literature review, focusing on exposure assessment, acute poisoning, chronic health effects, and future research needs. The exposure types and levels of pesticides vary by study subjects and need to be assessed by integrating several methods focused on the epidemiological purpose. Acute pesticide poisoning is a major public health problem in the world. Paraquat is the main causative pesticide for acute poisoning in Korea and should be banned in order to save several thousands of lives every year. Occupational pesticide exposure also causes numerous chronic diseases among farmers and industrial workers, including cancers, respiratory diseases, depression, retinal degeneration, diabetes, and abnormal menstrual cycle. However, controversy exists regarding the long-term effects of low-dose environmental pesticide exposure. The area of pesticide study is relatively new with broad study populations and it has received little academic and policy attention, particularly in Korea. More detailed studies investigating the risk of pesticide-related health effects and intervention efforts to reduce the problems are needed in Korea.

Recently, LEE et al. proposed an attribute-based authenticated key agreement protocol over home network, which aimed to support authentication and key agreement between user and home server. However, if the home server is attacked in the protocol, the effects are influenced to the overall home network components severly. Thereby, this paper proposes a new ticket-based authentication protocol using user attributes between user and home devices to solve the problem. The proposed protocol supports the various levels of security to user by diversifying the network accessibility depending on user attribute. Thereby, the protocol could support more secure home network services.

Electrical properties of AlN ceramics sintered with 1 wt% $Y_2O_3$ have been investigated. From the impedance spectroscopy, electrical conductivity of grain boundary was found to be much lower than that of grain. DC conductivity measurement showed the electrode polarization effects caused by blocking electrode. The heat-treatment at $1700^{\circ}C$ of the specimen sintered at $1850^{\circ}C$ transformed continuous pain boundary phases along triple boundary junctions into isolated particles in grain comers. The heat-treatment induced decreases both in grain and grain boundary conductivity, and in DC electrical conductivities. From the analysis on the transference number, ionic conductivity was shown to be more dominant than electron conductivity, which was due to ion compensation mechanism during oxygen incorporation into grain.

Ischemia reperfusion injury occurs in various diseases. The role of oxygen free radicals in IR injury of the lung has been spotlighted and many studies have been performed. In this study, we tried to prepare a stable rat lung model for IR injury, focusing on surrounding conditions as hilar stripped left lung, clamped left pulmonary artery and bronchus, and declamped after determined period was passed, and right main pulmonary aretery was clamped. Arterial blood gas analyes were performed at 1, 10, 20, 30, minutes after reperfusion. Before clamping, PaO2 was 95 to 120 mmHg in all animals. There were six groups; Group I : temperature 15o C, and 120 minutes clamping, Group II: 20 oC, and 120 minutes clamping, Group III : 25 oC, and 120 minutes clamping, Group IV : 15oC, 90 minutes clamping, Group V : 20 oC, 90 minutes clamping,Group VI: 20 oC, 75 minutes clamping. Each groups contained 10 Sprague Dayley rats. The humidity was maintained 100 % as circulation imerged isotonic Hartmann`s solution of the pleural cavity. In group IV, V, and VI, PaO2 decreased significantly in all animals immediately after reperfusion, but 43 % survived till 10 minutes after reperfusion, it was 74.0$\pm$5.7, 73.3$\pm$10.8,and 88.2$\pm$17.7 mmHg. Pulmonary edema was observed histologically in 2/10 animals in group IV, 6/10 in group V , 3/10 in group VI, 9/10 in group I, and the other lungs showed all edema. We established a stable model by setting ischemic time, and temperature, between 75 to 90 minutes,15 to 20o C, and isotemperature Hartmann`s solution immersion of the pleural cavity.

This study was started to find out if plasma malondialdehyde(MDA), $\alpha-tocopherol$ and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity could be markers of biological activity resulting from exposed to lead in workers. Blood samples were randomly obtained from lead-exposed workers(n=29), $CO_2$, welders(n=60) and office workers(n=60). We used whole blood to analyse blood lead with atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Superoxide dismutase activity in erythrocyte was measured with spetrophotometer. MDA and $\alpha-tocopherol$ in plasma were measured with high performance liquid chromatography. Lead-exposed workers was significantly high in blood lead concentration$(29.37{\mu}g/d\ell)$ compared with welders$(6.42{\mu}g/d\ell)$ and office workers$(5.01{\mu}g/d\ell)$. The level of plasma MDA was significantly higher in the lead-exposed workers($1.87{\mu}mol/g$ cholesterol) than the welders($1.41{\mu}mol/g$ cholesterol) and office workers($1.41{\mu}mol/g$ cholesterol). Erythrocyte SOD activity in lead-exposed workers(56.80 U/g Hb) was significantly increased than those of welders(37.63 U/g Hb) and office workers(20.47 U/g Hb). The plasma $\alpha-tocopherol$ level of lead-exposed workers($4.93{\mu}g/g$ cholesterol) was statistically different from welders($4.25{\mu}g/g$ cholesterol) and office workers$4.28{\mu}g/g$ cholesterol). Neither age nor smoking was related to SOD or MDA level. Blood lead was significantly correlated with erythrocyte SOD activity(r=0.405), plasma MDA(r=0.296) and $\alpha-tocopherol$ (r=0.207). Plasma MDA was also significantly correlated with SOD (r=0.217). In multiple regression analysis, the change of MDA and SOD activity level related to the blood lead concentration. These results suggested that the increase of plasma MDA and erythrocyte SOD activity in lead-exposed workers had a close relationship with the oxidative stress induced by lead.
