An experimental study on the characteristics of flame stabilization for high carbon number liquid fuels in atmospheric condition was conducted. Vaporized fuel was mixed with air and ejected to form a laminar jets. Results show that liftoff height is proportional to the square of nozzle diameter and exponentially proportional to jet velocity for a given fuel mass fraction. Schmidt numbers of hexane, heptane and octane were determined from the relation derived theoretically. For Schmidt numbers close to unity, the accuracy of Schmidt number determination from lifted flame behaviors becomes improved. As Schmidt number increases, the accuracy deteriorates, while the dependance of liftoff height to jet velocity becomes quadratic. Flame stability region reduces as fuel mass fraction decreases.<br/>
