        Much has been written, discussed and publicized recently about various problems connected with the distribution process in this country one way or the other. And, yet, not many people, including nation's top business executives and managers, seem actually aware of the importance of this vital area. Especially in the area of packaging, shipping and warehouse management, the improvement has been painstakingly slow and, as compared with the production stage, it remained one of the most backward areas of the whole industry. The reason for such backwardness if basically twofold: the lack of a wareness on the part of many basinessmen and a rather peculiar nature of our social system itself. Thus the basiness of material handling, if it is to grow in stature and in responsibility and service to our society, needs increasing number of able businessman with increasingly competent and critical judgment, particularly those who evaluate, judge and approve plans and budgets for the improvement. In the advanced nations, on the other hand, the concept of marketing as well as distribution of goods and services first took shape in the early 1930's, and today the entire process of material handling is being literally "revolutionized" through modernization i.e., from mechanization to containerization and from computerization to automation. Today, diffusion of innovations is largely responsible for the rapid development of scientific knowledge on an international scale. In this study, therefore, an attempt has been made to analyze and evaluate some of the highly advanced technical skills in material handling in those countries, the area of which is vital importance to all of us who attempt to collect knowledge of others and project it into our future. As set forth in the introduction of this study, the distribution process in general is so complex and diverse in its scope that selecting the essential elements to be thus emphasized has not been an easy task. The plan for this study, therefore, has been selective rather than all-inclusive, since it seemed quite impractical for the researcher to attempt a comprehensive survey of all the remnification of the subject. As such, the study deals mainly with those most pertinent to out improvement in material handling‥namely, the various modern practices in packaging, shipping, warehouse management, information, organization, equipment, and so forth. It must be mentioned, however, that no single research project can accomplish more than a minute protion of study that would be necessary for general conclusions. Again, the study represents only a step toward a more complete and thorough research of subject. Little or no attention is given to the strictly economic and social consequences of the subject. These along with, perhaps, some individual case studies are other important aspects of the subject that should be cultivated in a further study.

        Low-Loss Polymeric Waveguides Having Large Cores Fabricated by Hot Embossing and Micro-contact Printing Techniques

        We present simple, low-cost methods for the fabrication of polymeric waveguides that have large core sizes for use as optical interconnects. We have used both hot embossing and micro-contact printing techniques for the fabrication of multimode waveguides using the same materials. Rectangular and large-core (60  60 m2) channels were readily prepared when using these methods. The dimensions of the embossed and printed channels were the same as those of the pattern on the original master. The polymeric waveguides that we fabricated with large core sizes exhibited a low propagation loss of 0.1 dB/cm at 850 nm, which indicates that hot embossing and micro-contact printing are suitable techniques for the fabrication of optical waveguides having large-core.

      • 예부선의 자유항주모형실험을 통한 조종 특성 연구

        예선이 부선을 선미 예인하는 상황에서의 예부선 조종특성을 확인하기 위하여, 예부선 통합 자유항주 모형시험을 수행하였다. 기존의 실선시운전에서는 관측하지 못한 부선의 불안정한 거동을 확인하였으며, 브라이들을 이용한 2점 예인 상태로, 우현 10도, 20도, 30도 선회시험을 수행하여 예선과 부선의 선회반경을 측정하였다. 시험수행조건이 다르나, 실선시운전 결과와 비교하여 선회 반경이 약 3배 이상 커진 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 부선의 선회궤적이 예선의 선회궤적 안쪽에 존재하는 것도 재확인할 수 있었다.

        횡경사상태 선박의 조종성능변화에 관한 실험적 연구

        Predicting ship manoeuvrability is attracting widespread interest in the field of analyzing maritime accident to simulate a highly accurate track of a ship in abnormal accident situations. This study investigated the manoeuvrability of a ship in abnormally heeled condition. Free Running Model Tests (FRMT) with 1/65.83 scaled KCS (KRISO container ship) were conducted in three heeled conditions; 35°turning circle tests and 20/20 zigzag manoeuvring tests were conducted in 0°, -10°, and –20° conditions. The test results showed that the heeled to port condition significantly affected starboard turning and zigzag characteristics; the tactical diameters in the turning circle tests decreased, and the first overshoot angles in the zigzag tests increased when the ship was in the larger heeled condition. These results indicate that the roll angle of the ship considerably affects yaw rate and speed decrease of the ship. The turning and zigzag indices from trajectory and navigation data in the study were provided for benchmark data sets.

        도심지역 DSM을 이용한 고해상도 InSAR 위상 시뮬레이션

        현재 공간해상도 약 1 m 의 고해상도 X-band SAR 위성인 독일의 TerraSAR-X와 TanDEMX, 이탈리아의 COSMO-SkyMed가 성공적으로 발사되어 운용되고 있으며 분석 결과 우수한 성능을 보이고 있다. 국내에서도 최고 공간해상도 약 1 m 의 X-band SAR 위성인 KOMPSAT-5가 향후 발사될 예정이다. 이러한 고해상도 SAR 영상 활용이 가능해짐에 따라 SAR Interferometry(InSAR) 기술을 이용한 도심지역 모니터링이 더욱 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만, 기존의 InSAR 위상 시뮬레이션 알고리즘은 도심지역에 분포하는 빌딩과 같은 인공구조물 객체에 의해 나타나는 layover 현상과 빌딩 벽면에서 산란되는 신호를 충분히 고려하지 못한다. 본 연구에서는 기존 알고리즘의 한계점을 극복하기 위하여 LIDAR DSM을 이용한 정밀 InSAR 위상과 SAR 반사강도 영상 시뮬레이션 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 대전 지역에서 획득된 TerraSAR-X spotlight 영상과 비교 분석을 통해 개발된 알고리즘의 타당성 분석을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과로 생성된 InSAR 위상과 SAR 반사강도 영상은 실제 TerraSAR-X spotlight SAR 자료로부터 생성된 결과와 매우 유사하였다. 이러한 결과는 향후 고해상도 SAR 영상을 이용한 도심지역 변화 및 변위탐지 모니터링 연구에 활용될 것이다. Since the radar satellite missions such as TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed were launched in 2007, the spatial resolution of spaceborne SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images reaches about 1 meter at spotlight mode. In 2011, the first Korean SAR satellite, KOMPSAT-5, will be launched, operating at X-band with the highest spatial resolution of 1 m as well. The improved spatial resolution of state-of-the-art SAR sensor suggests expanding InSAR(Interferometric SAR) analysis in urban monitoring. By the way, the shadow and layover phenomena are more prominent in urban areas due to building structure because of inherent side-looking geometry of SAR system. Up to date the most conventional algorithms do not consider the return signals at the frontage of building during InSAR phase and SAR intensity simulation. In this study the new algorithm introducing multiscattering in layover region is proposed for phase and intensity simulation, which is utilized a precise LIDAR DSM(Digital Surface Model) in urban areas. The InSAR phases simulated by the proposed method are compared with TerraSAR-X spotlight data. As a result, both InSAR phases are well matched, even in layover areas. This study will be applied to urban monitoring using high resolution SAR data, in terms of change detection and displacement monitoring at the scale of building unit.

      • 무인선의 조종제어체계 개발을 위한 RIB의 운전자 조종입력패턴 분석

        RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat)는 우수한 조종성능을 바탕으로 다양한 용도로 사용되고 있다. 한국해양연구원에서는 무인선(USV, Unmanned Surface Vehicle)개발을 목적으로 RIB를 제작하여 시험운항 중에 있다. RIB의 운항특성은 운전자의 조종기술에 의존적이기 때문에 숙련된 운전자의 조종입력패턴을 활용하여 USV의 무인조종체계를 구성하면 보다 향상된 운항성능을 기대할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 두 명의 운전자가 4개의 경유점을 따라가는 조종을 각각 하고, 그에 따른 운전자의 조종입력과 RIB의 운항특성을 분석하였다. 이 데이터를 바탕으로 향후 USV의 경유점을 추종하는 무인조종체계를 구성할 시, RIB의 최적화된 운항을 위한 조종입력조건을 제안하였다. RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat) is widely used for various purpose because of it's good manoeuvring performance. KORDI builded RIB to develop USV. Because motion of RIB is dependent on pilot's skill, applying steering pattern of expert pilot to the control system of USV, makes better manoeuvring performance of USV. In this paper, two pilots steered RIB chasing 4 waypoints and analyzed data from steering input and motion of RIB are represented. In addition, optimal steering input based on man's experience is suggested for design of control system of USV.

        Fabrication of Multimode Polymeric Waveguides by Hot Embossing Process: Effect of Sidewall Roughness on Insertion Loss

        We have fabricated a polymeric waveguide by using a hot embossing technique and have investigated its propagation loss. The replication of waveguide channels through the use of a hot embossing technique is of interest as a single-step process that could deliver surface roughnesses far smaller than the wavelength. We have evaluated experimentally that the sidewall roughness has a dominant effect on insertion losses of the multimode polymeric waveguide. The propagation loss of the waveguide decreased dramatically upon decreasing the sidewall roughness of the channel. We have confirmed that the preparation of waveguides having nanometer-scale sidewall roughness and 0.1 dB/cm propagation loss is possible when using the hot embossing technique.
