In the light of quality comparison the ratio of panaxadiol and panaxatriol contents was assayed in the extract of various ginseng products, whose origin of production and species of the original plants are different. Aglycone compositions of other ginsengs were not comparable with Korean ginseng in their ratio of panaxadiol and panaxatriol contents of dammarane glycosides.

The seasonal variations in the contents of ginseng components were analyzed with the samples harvested from April to October. The contents of soluble components such as sugars, amino acids, terpenoid and total methanol extract, increased gradually from April to July and remained almost constant from July to October. Therefore the quality of ginseng harvested at July will not be expected to be significantly different with that of October.

This paper is concerned with the studies on the effective components possessing antioxidant activity, with a view to demonstrate the anti-aging activity of Korean ginseng. Feeding the extract of Korean ginseng or its effective component to mice inhibited strongly the lipid peroxidaiion induced by ethanol intoxication. From the; extract of Korean red ginseng, one effective component, Compound A, mp. 143^0 C_6H_6O₃, was isolated by chromatographic purification and its chemical structure was determine! as 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-γ-pyrone (maltol).

한국인삼의 노화방지 효과를 입증하는 의도에서 인삼의 항산화활성을 다루었다. 인삼 또는 그 유효성분을 추출하여 마우스에 투여하면 알코홀 투여로 인하여 상승되는 지질 과산화물의 함량을 감소시켜주었으며 그 유효성분의 화학구조를 결정한 결과 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-$\gamma$-Pyrone (maltol)임을 밝혔다. The absorption and excretion of panax saponin A were studied. Panax saponin A was absorbed easily in the gastro-intestinal tract and was also readily excreted through the renal and bile routes in rabbits. A part of the saponin absorbed seems to be metabolized and the probable metabolite was detected in the urine, blood and bile juice.
인삼의 항산화 활성성분에 관한 연구(3) : Phenolic acid 류의 분리 및 동정

인삼의 ether 가용성 산성물질 분획 (fr. A) 및 butanol에 이행되는 glycoside분획 (fr. B)에서 항산화활성이 있음을 동물실험에서 확인한 바 있다. Fr. A 및 fr. B에는 phenol성 물질이 함유되어 있음을 알 수 있었으며 우선 fr. A를 silicagel chromatographr에 의하여 정제하여 3종의 phenolic acid류를 결정으로 분리할 수 있었다. 이들의 화학적 성질과 spectral data 및 전합성에 의하여 각각 Vanillic acid salicylic acid 및 p-hydroxycinnamic acid로 동정되었으며 이들 성분이 수삼중에 유리상태로 함유된 양을 분석한 결과 각각 0.0076% 이하의 미량성분임을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 이들 성분이 glycoside로 함유된 양은 상당히 많은 것으로 추정하고 있으며 이들 성분이 나타내는 항산화 활성이 인상 extract이 나타내는 항산화활성에서 어떤 비중을 차지하고 있는지에 대해서 및 glycoside형으로 존재하는 Phenol성 성분에 대한 연구는 현재 진행 중에 있다.
