        Control of Encapsulation Efficiency and Initial Burst in Polymeric Microparticle Systems

        Initial burst is one of the major challenges in protein-encapsulated microparticle systems. Since protein release during the initial stage depends mostly on the diffusional escape of the protein, major approaches to prevent the initial burst have focused on efficient encapsulation of the protein within the microparticles. For this reason, control of encapsulation efficiency and the extent of initial burst are based on common formulation parameters. The present article provides a literature review of the formulation parameters that are known to influence the two properties in the emulsion-solvent evaporation/extraction method. Physical and chemical properties of encapsulating polymers, solvent systems, polymer-drug interactions, and properties of the continuous phase are some of the influential variables. Most parameters affect encapsulation efficiency and initial burst by modifying solidification rate of the dispersed phase. In order to prevent many unfavorable events such as pore formation, drug loss, and drug migration that occur while the dispersed phase is in the semi-solid state, it is important to understand and optimize these variables.

        서비스 제공 기업에 대한 신뢰가 금융 마이데이터 서비스에 전이되는 현상에 관한 연구

        As data usage grows in importance, ensuring individual control over personal information becomes critical. The emergence of the 'MyData' concept addresses this, particularly in financial services. Although the institutional and technological framework for financial MyData services is in place, there's a need to establish consumer understanding and perception of its usefulness and safety for successful activation. This study focuses on investigating the impact of trust on the intention to use the new mobile banking service, financial MyData. This study has three objectives. Firstly, to analyze whether trust in financial MyData services and trust in financial MyData service providers affect the intention to use financial MyData services. Secondly, to analyze the process of forming trust in financial MyData services based on the phenomenon of transferring trust in service providers to trust in services. Thirdly, to identify the process by which trust transfer occurs between service providers and financial MyData services. Ultimately, the goal of this study is to promote the intention to use financial MyData services based on the concept of trust and to activate these services. In summary, this study emphasizes the significance of trust in financial MyData services, exploring its impact on user intention and the transfer of trust from providers to services. By promoting consumer trust, the research aims to contribute to the activation of financial MyData services.

        개인의 특성이 보건의료 데이터 제공 의사와 활용 동의에 미치는 영향

        마이데이터 사업이 본격화됨에 따라 국내 보건의료 데이터 활용에 관한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 이에 민감정보로 분류되는 보건의료 데이터의 자유로운 활용을 위해 개인의 동의를 어떻게 구해야 하는가에 대한 논의가 계속되고 있다. 하지만 개인의 보건의료 데이터 제공에 대한 인식을 개인의 입장에서 분석한 선행연구는 드물었다. 따라서 본 연구는 개인이 보건의료 데이터 활용에 동의하는지, 이에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 분석해보았다. 분석 결과, 개인은 보건의료 데이터 활용에 대해 그 목적을 명확히 제시하였을 경우 동의하는 정도가 높아짐이 밝혀졌으며, 특히 공공의 이익을 중요하게 생각하는 사람일수록 그 경향이 더욱 높아진다는 것이 도출되었다. 또한 보건의료 데이터를 활용하는 주체인 의료기관, 공공기관, 민간기업에 대한 개인의 인식이 상이하였음을 바탕으로 개인이 데이터 활용 정책과 이를 위해 필수적인 협업이 수행되는 세 기관의 관계성을 명확하게 인지하고 있지 않음을 유추해볼 수 있었다. Interest in the use of health care data in Korea is increasing as the MyData business is in full swing. Accordingly, discussions on how to obtain individual consent for the free use of health care data classified as sensitive information continue. However, prior studies that analyzed individuals’ perception of providing health care data from an individual’s point of view were rare. Therefore, this study analyzed whether individuals agree to the use of health care data and how they perceive it. As a result of analysis, it was found that when the purpose of using health care data is clearly presented, the degree of consent increases, and in particular, the more important the public interest is, the higher the tendency is. In addition, based on the differences in individual perceptions of medical institutions, public institutions, and private companies that use health care data, it can be inferred that individuals are not clearly aware of the relationship between data utilization policies and the three organizations in which essential collaboration is carried out.

        Extracellular stability of nanoparticulate drug carriers

        Nanoparticulate (NP) drug carrier systems areattractive vehicles for selective drug delivery to solidtumors. Ideally, NPs should evade clearance by the reticuloendothelialsystem while maintaining the ability tointeract with tumor cells and facilitate cellular uptake. Great effort has been made to fulfill these design criteria,yielding various types of functionalized NPs. Anotherimportant consideration in NP design is the physical andfunctional stability during circulation, which, if ignored,can significantly undermine the promise of intelligentlydesigned NP drug carriers. This commentary reviews severalNP examples with stability issues and their consequences,ending in a discussion of experimental methodsfor reliable prediction of NP stability.

        Pharmacokinetic aspects of the clinically used proteasome inhibitor drugs and efforts toward nanoparticulate delivery systems

        Background Proteasome inhibitor drugs have provided a major breakthrough in the treatment of multiple myeloma and other hematological malignancies. Currently, there are three clinically used proteasome inhibitor drugs, namely bortezomib, carfilzomib, and ixazomib. Fueled by the remarkable successes of these drugs, additional drug candidates are actively pursued by targeting the proteasome and other components in the ubiquitin–proteasome pathways. Efforts are ongoing to overcome the drawbacks of the existing proteasome inhibitor drugs, optimize their pharmacokinetic aspects, and expand their clinical utility beyond the current indications, in particular for solid cancer therapy. Over the several decades, a variety of nanoparticulate delivery systems have been designed and applied to cancer therapy with a goal of improving the efficacy and safety. Area covered This review summarizes the pharmacokinetic aspects of the clinically used proteasome inhibitor drugs and the notable findings from the recent reports on the novel nanoparticulate delivery systems of bortezomib and carfilzomib. Expert opinion With the help of novel nanoparticulate delivery systems, the therapeutic utility of the proteasome inhibitor drugs is likely to expand to various types of cancer and other pathological conditions including neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.

        Effects of Inhalable Microparticles of Seonpyejeongcheon-Tang in an Asthma Mouse Model - Effects of Microparticles of SJT -

        Objectives: Allergic asthma generally presents with symptoms of wheezing, coughing, breathlessness, and airway inflammation. Seonpyejeongcheon-tang (SJT) consists of 12 herbs. It originated from Jeongcheon- tang (JT), also known as Ding-chuan-tang, composed of 7 herbs, in She-sheng-zhong-miao-fang. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of local delivery of SJT via inhalable microparticles in an asthma mouse model. Methods: Microparticles containing SJT were produced by spray-drying with leucine as an excipient. SJT microparticles were evaluated with respect to their aerodynamic properties, in vitro cytotoxicity, in vivo toxicity, and therapeutic effects on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma in comparison with orally-administered SJT. Results: SJT microparticles provided desirable aerodynamic properties (fine particle fraction of 48.9% ± 6.4% and mass median aerodynamic diameter of 3.7 ± 0.3 μm). SJT microparticles did not show any cytotoxicity against RAW 264.7 macrophages at concentrations of 0.01 - 3 mg/mL. Inhaled SJT microparticles decreased the levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, IL-17A, eotaxin and OVAIgE in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in mice with OVA-induced asthma. These effects were verified by histological evaluation of the levels of infiltration of inflammatory cells and collagen, destructions of alveoli and bronchioles, and hyperplasia of goblet cells in lung tissues. The effects of SJT microparticles in the asthma model were equivalent to those of orally-administered SJT extract. Conclusion: This study suggests that SJT is a promising agent for inhalation therapy for patients with asthma.
