        this study aims to examine the current status of amateur musicians` activities and provide foundational data to vitalize amateur musicians` performing activities. Through this understanding of amateur musicians` performing activities, this paper intends to provide foundational data that can help grope for ways to develop lifelong musical learning pursued in music education and constant musical performing activities. To attain the goal, this paper conducted a survey that consists of questions on the current status of musical performing activities to amateur musicians presently taking part in musical performing activities. The study subjects are total 377, and they are amateur musicians from 19 groups conducting activities in 3 cities: Yeosu, Suncheon, and Gwangyang. In order to examine the current status of amateur musicians` activities, this study examines the general and musical background of the musicians and the status of their participation in musical performing groups and also investigates how the motivation of participating musical performing activities is related with their musical background and the activities of musical performing groups. According to the result of this paper, it was found that musical experience during school days can affect the motivation to participate in music performing activities as adults and in current music performing activities, aggressive amateur performers show great motivation to participate in music performing activities. Therefore, music education at school should emphasize classes related with music performing activities so that students can perform musical activities all through their lifetime as meaningful activities in their lives. Moreover, more attention and endeavor will be needed for students to experience music performing activities from a choir or ensemble.
