Competition between cities is generalized than competition between nations and new paradigm that design is competitive power has been widespread, public design became one of the trends as a way of self-reflection about public service of design which used to be careless. Public design is effective to activate the city``s economy with the city design through cultural aesthetic approaches whereas existing public development work only solves city``s function and quantitative problem. However, current public design sometimes includes characteristic for physical side or visually changes urban environment without understanding of the city and self-examination of design concept. System which approaches with consideration of various aspects such as physical, economical, historical, cultural, environmental aspects to correct wrong direction of public design. Thus, the purpose of this study is to find out the factors through study of literatures related to sustainable urban regeneration & public design, theory study, advanced studies, case analysis in domestic and overseas, and to analyze interrelationship between urban regeneration and public design. This study plans approach system of public design with consideration of sustainable urban regeneration, and finally suggests method.
