Tea culture space is not only a kind of reflection of residential culture, but also can be used to generally describe the culture lives and value systems of a society. In Japan, the research on tea garden is relatively adequate. But there are not much researches about tea drinking space in Korea. The main reason for which is that the concept of tea drinking space was not explicit in Korea. And there is a big difference between the space for tea drinking in Korea and that in Japan. The main goal of this paper is to discover this difference and to analyze the causes of it. Although there are many studies about tea culture of Japan and Korea, or Japanese tea garden, or traditional Korean garden. I have not found a comparative study on tea culture space of Korea and Japan which is got by studying tea culture of the two countries, and thus to analyze the differences of national characters between Korea and Japan by this comparative study. In addition, the researches on Japanese culture and Korean culture almost belong to the category of history, sociology or anthropology. I think it is appropriate to analyze the differences of social spirits and degrees of residential culture between Korea and Japan by studying the specific garden architectures.
