      • 초창기 한국 언론학의 제도화와 정체성 변화

        본 논문의 목적은 초창기 한국 언론학의 제도화와 정체성 변화의 과정을 탐구하는 데 있다. 특히 1960~70년대에 이루어진 한국 언론학의 정체성 변화에 주목하고 이 과정에서 핵심적 역할을 담당한 南玎 金圭煥의 활동에 초점을 맞추었다. 한국 언론학의 제도화 과정은 ‘예비기(~1953)’, ‘초창기(1954~1974)’, ‘도약기(1975~1990)’, ‘전성기(1991~현재)’의 4단계로 구분할 수 있는데, 제도화 초창기에 한국 언론학은 ‘전통적 신문학’에서 ‘사회과학으로서의 커뮤니케이션연구’로 학문적 정체성의 변화를 겪게 된다. 미국의 윌버 슈람(Wilbur Schramm)의 영향을 크게 받은 김규환은 서울대학교 신문대학원 창설의 주역으로서 그리고 제2대 한국 신문학회 회장으로서 이러한 변화를 주도하였다. 김규환의 리더십에 힘입어 ‘사회과학으로서의 커뮤니케이션 연구’는 1970년대에 와서 ‘주류 언론학’으로서의 위상을 굳히게 되었다. 이러한 정체성의 변화는 결과적으로 한국 언론학이 저널리즘 실무교육을 지양하고 커뮤니케이션 이론 중심의 학문으로 바뀌는 계기가 되었다. The purpose of this paper is to examine the process of institutionalization and identity change of Korean journalism and communication studies(KJCS) during its early twenty years(1954~1974). In particular, the paper focuses on the role of Kim Kyu Whan who was a key figure in the process of identity change of KJCS made during 1960s and 1970s. Leading the Graduate School of Mass Communication at Seoul National University, Kim had played a critical role in transforming KJCS from "traditional journalism study" to "scientific communication research." Influenced by Wilbur Schramm, a founding father of American communication studies, Kim had tried to make KJCS a solid social science. Thanks to Kim's leadership, empirical and behavioral communication research became the mainstream of KJCS in 1970s. This change also resulted in a shift of journalism education in Korea: profession-oriented journalism education gradually gave way to theory-oriented communication education.

        서울대학교 언론정보학 교육 40년

        이 글의 목적은 1975년에 설립된 서울대학교 언론정보학과의 창설 40주년을 맞아 언론정보학과의 커리큘럼 분석을 통해 학부 및 대학원 교육의 변천 과정을 살펴보는데 있다. 구체적으로, 매학기 서울대가 발간하는 수강편람에 기재된 학부와 대학원의 개설교과목을 분석함으로써 매년 학기별로 학부와 대학원에 어떤 교과목이 개설되었고 그것이 학년 또는 학위과정별로, 전공영역별로 어떻게 변해 왔는지 10년 단위의 네 시기별로 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 지난 40년 동안 언론정보학과의 커리큘럼은 큰 폭의 변화를 겪었고 시기별로도 차이가 있었는데, 여기에는 대학의 교육정책, 학과 교수진의 변동, 미디어환경과 같은 사회적 변화가 주요 요인으로 작용하였다. 마지막으로 이런 변화의 의미를 해석하고 미래 교육의 방향을 제안하였다. As 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the SNU Department of Communication, this paper serves to understand the history of its communication education through examining both the undergraduate and the graduate program"s curriculums. In order to obtain data, all course catalogues published by the Office of Academic Affairs during the last four decades were categorized into four consecutive time periods and analyzed to produce a complete list of course titles by calendar year, semester, class, and subject area. The study revealed that the curriculums have gone through a number of significant changes in process of time; the University"s education policy, the Department"s faculty line-up, and social changes such as the development of new media technology were the major influential factors. The meanings of the abovementioned changes and the orientation of future education were also discussed.

        일제시대 언론연구의 위상과 동향

        Since communication studies was institutionalized in Korea during 1950s, systematic studies of communication had not been conducted during the Japanese colonial rule era(1910~1945). Nonetheless, albeit not qualifying a high academic standard, a number of books and articles regarding media and communications were published during the era. They are of importance because they can extend the history of Korean communication studies. In order to grasp the status and trends of Korean communication studies during the era, therefore, this study examined the themes and contents of the communication-related books and articles published in magazines specialized in journalism, general magazines such as Gaebyuk and Shindonga, and newspapers including Donga Ilbo and Chosun Ilbo. The themes of communication studies under the Japanese colonial rule can be categorized into the following: 1) journalism theory and practice, 2) newspaper history, 3) introduction of newspapers abroad, 4) organization of newspapers, 5) new media such as radio and television, advertising, and cartoons, and 6) institutionalization of communication studies. By featuring the early phase of communication studies in Korea, it is hoped that the history of Korean communication studies may be extended to the period of the Japanese colonial rule.

        기사 제목에 포함된 직접인용부호 사용의 문제점과 원인

        This study explored the ways in which direct quotations were employed in newspaper headlines of the coverage of the Local Election on May 31, 2006. Even though critics and journalism academics have expressed worries about the frequent uses of direct quotations in the headlines of the Korean dailies, no systematic attempts have been made to examine the extent to which, and the reason for which, direct quotations were extensively utilized. Content analysis, conducted on a systematic sample of 448 news stories in the coverage of the election, revealed that about 60% of the headlines with direct quotations contained the phrases that one could not find in the content of the main stories. It was also found that the direct quotations were more about the intentions and emotions of the politicians than events and policies. Based upon the results from a series of in-depth interviews with six journalists, this study discussed the implications of the findings for the journalism norms and ethics regarding direct quoting.

        청소년의 스마트폰 의존도와 영향 변인의 관계에 대한 학령 및 성별 비교 분석

        This study examined the effects of parenting styles, psychological traits, and purpose of smartphone use upon adolescent’s psychological dependence on smartphone, using a sample of 5,564 teenagers from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey in 2016 by National Youth Policy Institute. A set of multiple regression analyses indicate differential effects of the predictors by age and gender. First, girls were significantly more dependent on smartphone than were boys, and smartphone dependence increased with age. Second, parenting styles, with the exception of the ‘no effect’ of neglect and abuse by parents, showed a significant relationship only with specific age or gender. Third, for psychological traits, the effects of anxiety and self-esteem were found only for specific age or gender, while aggression showed a consistent positive relationship with smartphone dependence. Finally, purpose of smartphone use influenced smartphone dependence with different impact depending upon age and gender. For instance, using smartphone for games increased smartphone dependence only for boys of 13 and 16 years old, while using camera and watching videos were common factors to increase smartphone dependence for girls. These results suggest that any policy for reducing teenager’s smartphone overuse should take account of their smartphone use behavior.

        해방 후 10년(1945~1954) 한국언론학의 연구 동향

        Little attention has been paid to the early history of Korean journalism and communication studies before 1954 when Korea's first journalism department was founded in Hongik University. This study examines the trend and variety of Korean journalism and communication studies for the first ten years after Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. The data analyzed are 240 journalism and communication-related articles which were collected from thirty five magazines, both general and specialized, published during the period 1945-1954. We have content-analyzed the articles and found that the articles can be categorized into eight themes: 1) politics and the press, 2) journalism and/or journalists, 3) press freedom and/or press-related laws, 4) circumstances and prospects of Korean press, 5) introduction of newspapers abroad, 6) history of journalism, 7) film studies, and 8) broadcasting, propaganda, publication, and cartoons. Under the political turbulence in the age of cold war and Korean war, many of the articles not only dealt with the problems of and the reflection on Korean news media whose number was increased rapidly after Liberation, but also suggested the way in which Korean press should take in the future.
