레메디오스 바로의 예술에 나타난 분석심리학적 자기실현 연구

본 연구는 레메디오스 바로(Remedios Varo, 1908-1963)의 예술에 나타난 분석심리학적 자기실현에 관한 연구이다. 바로는 스페인에서 태어난 초현실주적 그룹에 적극적으로 참여했던 대표적인 여성 화가이다. 정치적인 억압과 남성 우월주의적인 시각이 팽배했던 당시의 사회적 현실은 바로를 여성으로서 주체적으로 자신만의 예술세계를 구축하게 했다. 즉 엄격한 가톨릭 신자였던 바로의 부모가 어린 바로를 수도원에 교육을 위탁하면서 수도원의 감시와 억압적인 생활을 하는 가운데 빚어진 자유로운 삶과 사유에 대한 바로의 내적갈망과 심리적 불안감은 내면적이고 무의식적인 표현으로 형성되었던 것이다. 환상적이고 신비주의적인 성향으로 번져 나오는 바로의 주제적 표현들은 곧 바로 자신의 고통스러운 삶을 승화하는 것이고 새로운 형상과 이미지로 의식화했던 연금술적인 세계와 다르지 않았다. 바로가 보여주는 예술세계에는 현실적인 욕망이나 충동 그리고 심리적 욕구가 있다. 사회와 관계하고 있는 주체적 여성으로서 이미지를 통한 진정한 자기(Self)찾기 이다. 이에 본 연구자는 바로가 보여주고 있는 연금술적인 이미지가 곧 그녀의 자화상임을 이해하고 나아가 스스로 주체적으로 독립적으로 여성상으로만 보여주었던 페미니즘적인 한계를 스스로 벗어나고 의식과 무의식을 전체과정으로 통합하는 과정 속에 이르는 자기실현의 여정을 해석하고자 하였다. 바로의 예술세계에서 표현되고 있는 연금술적 이미지는 칼 구스타브 융이 말하고 있는 자기실현과 다르지 않고, 바로의 예술작품에서 나타나고 있는 이미지들은 심층심리학적 차원에서 접근 가능함을 제안한다. The research is a study on the self-realization from a perspective of analytical psychology in the art of Remedios Varo(Remedios Varo, 1908-1963). Varo was a leading female painger who actively participated in the Surrealism Group, which was born in Spain. At the time of political oppression and male chauvinism, the social realities of the moment made her establish an own art world as a woman. This is an expression of inner unconsciousness involved in the psychological anxiety shown in the free and private life she wanted to get away from surveillance and repressive life of Catholic convent in her childhool, where her parents, who were strict Cathlics, entrusted the yong Varo to. The subjective expression of her fantastic and mystical propensity sublimated her painful life and it was no different from the alchemy world with a new shape and image. Varo wanted to find the true self through her image as a subjective woman by showing a realistic desire, a compulsion and a psychological desire in her art world. On this, the researchers analyzed the process of self-realization through the process of integrating consciousness and unconsciousness into a whole process beyond the limitation of feminism which showed only autonomous and independent women image in the Varo's alchemical image, which was soon her portrait. This study suggests that the alchemical images expressed in the Varo's art are no different from self-realization which Carl Gustav Jung spoke to, and that the images which appeared in Varo's artwork can be interpreted from a perspective of depth psychological dimension.
