        포털 뉴스 서비스와 뉴스 유통 변화: 2000-2017 네이버 뉴스 빅데이터 분석

        This study analyzed 80,428,892 news articles circulated by the Naver, which is the largest online portal in South Korea, from April, 2000 to February, 2017. Naver News started an online news service from May 2000. Naver has had the greatest impact on the news distribution environment. This study classified the historical period into four categories: a) a financial newspaper centered supply, b) a diversification of news organization due to sports news monopoly, c) a wire services centered supply, d) explosion of entertainment news supply. The results show that the concentration of news is gradually decreasing. However, considerable caution must be required in interpreting the results since this study focuses on the whole of the published news, not considering the degree of exposure to the readers. It rather confirms that we need to discuss their accountability as a platform. This study suggests a description of the portal news status for future discussion. 본 연구는 2000년 4월부터 2017년 2월까지 네이버에 유통되었던 뉴스기사 80,428,892건을 수집하여 분석한다. 분석 대상으로 삼은 네이버 뉴스는 2000년 5월부터 본격적인 온라인 뉴스 유통을 시작했고 현재까지도 뉴스 유통환경에서 가장 큰 영향력을 미치고 있다. 본 연구는 포털 뉴스 유통을 1) 경제지 중심의 뉴스 공급, 2) 스포츠지 독점으로 인한 스포츠연예 매체 다변화, 3) 통신사 중심의 뉴스 유통, 4) 스포츠연예 기사의 폭증과 뉴스제휴평가위원회, 이 네 가지 시기로 구분하였다. 분석 결과는 플랫폼으로서 포털이 어떤 뉴스를 보여주어야 하는지에 대한 논의가 필요함을 제시해준다. 기존 논의되던 연성화나 어뷰징 현황을 확인할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 뉴스제휴평가위원회 이후 뉴스 유통의 변화를 통해 플랫폼에 대한 정책적이고 제도적인 차원의 논의 필요성을 제시해준다. 본 연구는 기존의 논의들을 데이터를 통해 확인함으로써 기존 온라인 뉴스 유통 현황을 정리하고 포털에 대한 다양한 연구를 위한 기초 자료를 제공한다.

        포털 뉴스 발행시간을 통해 본 언론사 뉴스 생산 관행 : 2000년부터 2017년까지 네이버 뉴스 데이터에 대한 탐색적 분석

        This study empirically explores how news organizations online publishing practices have changed since Naver participated in online news distribution. South Korean newspaper companies heavily depend on the Naver portal for referral traffic. This has caused a variety of problems in the news environment. These problems with portals have mainly been discussed in terms of journalism ethics. Although there have been many discourses regarding the impact of online news, it has rarely been explored how news stories are actually being updated online. Therefore, this study focused on the changes in online news publishing practices involving the portal. As an exploratory study, it provides insight into how the portal has influenced the news distribution environment. The eleven daily newspapers (i.e., Kyunghyang, Kookmin, Naeil, Donga, Munhwa, Seoul, Segye, Chosun, Joongang, Hankyoreh, and Hankook), the six economic newspapers (i.e., Seoul Economy, Asian Economy, Financial News, Korean Economy, and Herald Economy), and the seven sports newspapers (i.e., Sports Donga, Sports Seoul, Sports World, Sports Chosun, Sports Hankook, and Daily Sports) were selected for analysis. Furthermore, to compare the publishing patterns, this study included three wired services (i.e., News 1, Newsis, and Yonhap News), which do not have print versions. The total number of articles was 49,785,412. In addition to the data from the portal, this study used the press directory to investigate the changing workforce of news outlets. The results of the study confirmed that, in the early days of online news, there was a prominent pattern of intensively publishing news articles during a certain time of the day. As live reporting has become routine, the prominent pattern has been alleviated. In the early days of online journalism, news organizations with a printed paper showed a concentrated publishing pattern. However, after the portal become dominant in online news distribution, daytime online news publishing became generalized. The data shows that, in the early days of the portal, daily newspapers published online between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, after editing of the printed paper closed. Now, the proportion of daytime publishing has increased. However, some media outlets still give weight to the paper news cycle, which maintains the concentrated news publishing patterns. In-depth interviews show the increasing burden on journalists jobs when the production routine of online news does not replace the paper-centered news production routine. Journalists addressed the point that many media outlets still hold the paper news at the center of news publishing. It has been a long time since online news was adopted in South Korea. However, the data and in-depth interviews revealed that the online transition has a long way to go. As exploratory research based on empirical data, this study provides the basic data for further research regarding the impact of digital transformation on journalism.

        웹 개발자들의 HTML5 채택 저항 요인에 관한 연구

        HTML5 is a markup language of the Internet used for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. It is an appropriate tool for developing Web application since it is compatible with previous HTML based Web browser. Many features of HTML5 have been built with the consideration of being able to run on low-powered devices such as smartphones and tablets. Therefore HTML5 is a potential candidate for making cross-platform application. However, it is rarely adopted in South Korea. This study focused on the intention of adopting HTML5 in web developer group. An online survey was conducted with 185 web developers affiliated to Korean Digital Enterprise Association. We examined innovation characteristics, individual characteristics, propagation mechanism, and social context as the factors affecting resistance of HTML5 adoption. Hierachical multiple regression was performed to examine hypotheses, and four variable blocks were entered at different steps. The demographic variable (comprising gender, age, education, career) was entered first as a control variable, followed by innovation characteristics (i.e. relative advantage and perceived risk), individual characteristics (i.e. innovativeness and prior experience), propagation mechanism (i.e. community channel and mass media channel), and situational factors (i.e. organizational environment and future prospect) Results showed that high relative advantage, low perceived risk, low satisfaction in the previously used programming language, more communication with community channel, positive future prospect of HTML5 are likely to reduce resistance to HTML5 adoption. Previous studies of programming language concentrate heavily on the relative advantage of innovation. This study considered a wide range of factors including not only the innovation characteristics of product but also individual traits, propagation mechanism, and situational factors based on the innovation resistance model. Furthermore, this study focused on web developers’ intention of using HTML5. It may contribute to explain why HTML5 is rarely adopted between web developers in South Korea.

        3DTV 채택의 유보, 거부, 만류에 영향을 미치는 요인

        이 연구는 혁신저항을 혁신채택에 대한 유보, 거부, 그리고 만류로 나누어 살펴보고, 각 유형의 저항을 발생시키는 요인들을 3DTV 사례를 통해 살펴보았다. 구체적으로 인지된 위험, 소비자 속성, 확산 메커니즘, 상황적 요인들이 저항의 세 유형에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 그리고 상대적 영향력은 어떠한지를 분석했다. 설문조사를 통한 연구 결과, 3DTV 채택 유보를 예측하는 변인은 조기 구매에 따른 경제적 손실에 대한 우려와 타인의 정보와 평가에 의존하는 성향으로 나타났다. 재정적 손실에 대한 우려, 볼만한 콘텐츠가 충분하지 않고, 불필요하게 시간을 낭비할 것 같다는 우려가 3DTV 채택에 대한 거부감으로 이어지는 것으로 분석되었다. 나아가 3DTV 채택에 대해 반대하고 타인의 구매까지 말리는 경우 경제적 손실이 클 것이라는 우려와 볼거리가 충분하지 않다는 인식이 상대적으로 크게 작용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 각 유형의 저항에 공통적으로 영향을 미친 변인은 경제적 위험으로 이는 조기 구매에 따른 재정적 손실에 대한 우려다. 한편 매스미디어 광고를 통한 정보의 제공과 유인은 3DTV 채택 유보나 거부, 만류에 모두 영향을 미치지 않았다. In a departure from previous literature that defined resistance to innovation as not trying adoption, this paper classifies resistance into three types-postponement, rejection, and opposition. We examine the relationship between several diverse factors and each type of resistance with reference to 3DTVs. The paper also assesses the relative power of the independent variables in predicting each type of resistance. The results from an online survey used in this study generally supported existing innovation resistance literature. Almost all the variables related significantly to the postponement, rejection, and opposition to 3DTV adoption. Regarding the relative power of prediction, the financial risk variable was most significant among all three types of resistance. Contrary to expectations, mass-media advertising was not significant after controlling for other variables. Expectation of the availability of 3D content was not considered important in predicting postponement; however, it increased explained variance in predicting rejection and opposition to 3DTV adoption.
